LED Display Technology: LED (light-emitting diode) TVs are actually a type of LCD TV. LCD HDTVs use standard compact fluorescent tubes to illuminate the picture. LED HDTVs, on the other hand, replace those fluorescent tubes with backlighting technology. LED TVs might therefore say "LCD display" on the packaging--this is perfectly normal. Is it just 1yr manufacturer's warranty? Is tempting but would prefer longer.

Thanks just ordered!

Never seen that before, so no need for a decoder?

There is no proper Plex app for 2013 LG TVs. However 1 guy has made a Plex app that you can install on the TV. I found it quite slow when I last tried it though, so just use access my Plex server over DLNA instead. You can get the app here... http://plex.sithari.com.au/

And regarding the satellite tuner, you get lots of channels in your guide but many of them are encrypted IIRC. It doesn't filter out or order the channels like a freesat tuner does.

I appear to have tripped and landed on the Buy button. Just before I go through to checkout, can anyone comment on gaming performance?

This or the Sony Bravia KDL42W706B ?

I have the 32" and I would say if you could the bravia for the same price, I would jump on it. But it'll probably cost a lot more.

Oh and the magic remote is about £40 on Amazon at the moment, but I got mine for £30 6 months ago. So worth keeping an eye out if you are after one.

I have the 32inch version and can confirm it runs Plex fine however sometimes it can act a bit strange although that might be my internet connection.

it doesn't need a Plex app. just run your Plex server from your laptop and go into smart share on the TV and it will show you everything you have on your Plex account.

I'm perplexed, what is plex?

You can get the freesat channels and all other XXX in range! The only thing that you don't get is the Fressat EPG.

How much for Wifi dongle? ...
Assuming it's the LG AN-WF100 wifi dongle that is required, there is an Amazon Marketplace seller knocking them out at under £20 delivered at time of post.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-AN-WF100-Dongle-Wireless-Access/dp/B003QZ5VOG
Similar items at roughly half that cost can be obtained via the slow boat from China...
If you are comfortable with a little configuration and don't mind committing one of the TVs three USB ports to power an alternative, you could use a wifi bridge that typically start at under £8 delivered ex-UK, example:

This or the Sony Bravia KDL42W706B ?

I just bought the Sony Bravia KDL42W706B from the Sony Outlet store for £380 and just saw this post. I think the Now TV deal would have swung me to this one but I'm happy with my purchase.

I appreciate it's a last year model, for us its for the bedroom. We moved recently and we can't read the epg on the 27" we have atm.

This one is the best selling 40"-45" TV at Amazon at the moment, and is just £20 more (with a 100Hz refresh rate):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-42A400B-42-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B00IOQ5XC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406130253&sr=1-1

I'm not sure which one I prefer the look of...

I already have a Chromecast, and so am not really as bothered about the built-in "smart" options for that reason.

The Panasonic does seem to be much better from a picture perspective, and a much better energy rating too.

If you go for the Panasonic, get it from Richer Sounds if you can (instore only), as they offer a 5-year guarantee for the same money.

The LG has 1 more HDMI & 2 more USB connections. It also has the capability to record to external hard drive (apart from the obvious, you can pause live TV with this). It is also Wi-Fi ready, has DNLA & MHL capabilities - Panny has none of these. Because of these (plus it has Smart TV built in), I think it's the better value-for-money TV.

Hot I paid 360 back in January it's a good telly apart from no itv catchup or ch four catchup
#32
This on the last Black Friday was £259 and the 47" one £349, that was a deal :p

I've got a very similar model (42ln575v) which has full built-in wifi and so doesn't require a dongle. Assuming no other differences, this is a great offer and I recommend it highly.

Be aware that you'll need to register for the Now TV vouchers asap as I believe they need to be activated before the end of July - and they are a great little bonus..
#34
I've got 42ln575v as well from John Lewis last year £379 (include 5 years guarantee), I am so enjoy it every night. <3<3<3

It is this dongle. My Dad bought this tv in February for £389 from tesco. It is an amazing tv and anyone who buys this will not be disappointed. The WF100 dongle is one of the easiest I have ever set up. Well done to LG for it's design and it\s relatively cheap cost compared to the rip off prices of the competition.

LG great multi function tvs especially the pk590 shame they dont support older plasmas no firmware upgrade support for future expansion on the smart tv apps...seems like once the tv is a few years old they ditch future upgrades to the smart tv apps and its not that it cant be done its just software/firmware after all...Says to me great tvs but they dont give much of a care for their customers...

Just bought it! Thanks man!

If this was 47 inch I'd have bought it. Not really worth me upgrading from 40 inch to 42 inch.
