More cost effective, easier and more sociable to watch; the LG 42LW550T makes 3D TV more tempting than ever!

Cinema 3D TV is the revised passive 3D system from LG. It's simpler than the more usual active system but, despite this, in many ways it's superior. For a start, passive 3D TV is considered more comfortable to watch with less flicker. Other technical advantages include a wider viewing angle and brighter images. Then there's the cost and convenience consideration to take into account. The glasses are much cheaper and also considerably lighter to wear. The lack of batteries onboard also means they don't have to be recharged. Ultimately, Active 3D remains the more technically advanced but if you've been put off by its lack of comfort or cost of glasses then the new Cinema 3D TV is for you. Of course, being passive doesn't in any way affect the immersive experience of 3D TV. You still get the vivid, projecting images and the reach-in depth that appears to make the screen "disappear".

Switch to 2D viewing and you'll still find the LG 42LW550T an impressive experience. The LED backlight panel with local dimming provides expert control over the picture's brightness. So precise is the result that the 42LW550T comes with an awesome contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1. In layman's terms, that means a bright and vivid picture quality that makes some rivals look dull. As well as the bright, detailed and natural picture quality, the LG 42LW550T is right up there in terms of motion smoothness. Thanks to TruMotion 100Hz processing, 3D images are sharper and 2D has less blur with fast moving action scenes.

Boosting the sound quality, you'll find LG's unique Infinite 3D Surround sound for a more enveloping sound quality to match the picture. There are also five other sound modes and tone controls for precise adjustment. LG's popular Clear Voice II is on hand to help out with "busy" and congested soundtracks where it can sometimes be tricky to make out dialogue. While it's certainly no match for a separate AV system, the onboard system certainly doesn't let the side down.

In addition to Cinema 3D TV the LG 42LW550T probably packs in more features than any other 42 inch TV at this price range. At the heart of this TV is the LG Smart Engine. This combines many features and presents them in an attractive and easy to use way. The list of features is extensive but some of the highlights include an app store and on-board web browser. This makes it easy to catch up with popular services such as YouTube, Facebook or catch-up TV sensation, the BBC iPlayer. In addition to these easily accessible apps, you can also search out your favourite websites using the browser. Thanks to DLNA compatibility you can also stream music from your PC or network attached storage system. The Smart engine also makes it possible to browse your choices whilst still keeping an eye on the current channel being displayed in the corner of the screen. For even faster and more direct control, there's the unique, optional Magic Motion remote. This active remote lets you point, click, swipe and drag without the need for multiple key strokes or button pushes. Another worthwhile option is the USB dongle. As standard, the 42LW550T connects to your home network via the Ethernet connection but using an optional dongle lets you hook up via wi-fi for added flexibility. For all the smart new tech, the 42LW550T hasn't forgotten about the more traditional sockets. Four HDMIs are partnered with twin USBs, SCART, component and RGB PC inputs for full compatibility with all your sources, new or old.

LG Cinema 3D uses the same 3D technology used in cinemas to deliver 3D in Full HD picture quality without relying on battery-powered glasses. With LG Cinema 3D you can bring the cinema experience home to enjoy with your friends and family from the comfort of your living room sofa. Unlike many previous 3D models, the 42LW550T will give you and your family a wider viewing experience, meaning you will no longer need to sit straight-on to your TV set. LG’s 3D glasses don’t require batteries and weigh half the weight of normal 3D glasses. This makes them inexpensive to replace and lightweight when worn.

If you've found 3D TV uncomfortable to watch or simply prohibitively expensive for all your friends and family to watch, the new 42LW550T Cinema 3D TV changes all that; and does so with style!

The specs confirm that 7 pairs of glasses are included.

This price is only for this weekend but may include Monday...I have phoned and checked information with my local store and reserved one too :)

Can someone help to upload an image? Many thanks.

These TVs have just won the What Hifi awards and with the passive & much cheaper glasses which are much less strain on the eyes, the TV industry is bound to follow LG and Philips in making passive 3D Tvs

Thank you for taking the time to participate on the forums. The price has been amended as the listed deal price should be the price you have to actual pay the retailer to purchase the item before any retrospective discounts/cashbacks are applied, thanks again.

So are Richer Sounds giving the cashback then?

Right I`m sure its right now! Richer Sounds have dropped the price for this weekend by 100 and the Sky cashback is 100. After the weekend the TV goes back up to the price of 999 as per the website. Apologies for the confusion, was just excited, waited for this TV for ages. Still have a 32 inch CRT as main TV! lol

Yes I think so........ if you dont plan on buying extra warranty as I was going to. Its 321 for 5 years at Electrocentre and only 90 or 10 percent of purchase price at Richer Sounds.

So just for the TV yes, so I need to check with Richer Sounds tommorrow to confirm the details of their promotion. Thanks

Why pay extra for 3rd party warranty when LG include 5 years as standard?

Not Full HD in 3D only half-resolution pattern retarded 3D polarized television, the information on richersounds website is incorrect.

Samsung have a passive RealD 3D TV called the RDZ due next year, which is Full HD in 3D, the LG is not...
