Personally I'd rather get an LCD too, but a lot of people prefer the more realistic colour reproduction offered by Plasmas, particularly the deeper blacks.

Please don't vote cold based on personal preference.

after owning a plasma I'd never go back to an LCD. great for PC monitors. terrible colours for TV. unrealistic skin tones, grey black colour, bad uneven backlighting, over saturated colour makes everything look cartoon like.

plasma is a proper tv.

oh unless yer a tool who believes they need regassing every few years........

Trouble with Plasma is they need re-gassing every couple of years........ just kidding, 10 x better than LCD in my opinion. LCD gives an unnatural image and compared to ALL my friends LCDs, a much better picture when displaying SKY SD signals............... stick that in yer pipe and smoke it oO

After watchng a plasma and LCD side by sied fed with the same input, calibration aside, the Plasma spanked the LCD for natural ability to display the full range of colours.

Does anybody know what the difference is between this and the 42PJ550 model? Thanks.

I agree. LCD is only OK when it's a small screen, and even then you can have problems such as light 'bleeding' from the sides/corners or even right onto the screen making it patchy or blotchy with lighter areas - very irritating and noticeable when it's a dark/black picture.

OK it might be a tad heavier in weight, but plasma wins hands down for overall build & picture quality. It's hard to believe that only several years ago or so marketing was geared towards convincing the public that LCD was the best of the two. Bit like a VHS - Betamax and HD DVD - Blu-ray war !

Thankfully it didn't go that way and consumers have choice when they want a TV.
