I have reserved the LG42pj350 to collect from Comet for the same price but is the above tv a better version? Would I be better buying this one instead? Advice appreciated x

I think one of the main differences is that this model plays video files from the USB port where the 350 can't. There maybe others?

Check out the official LG-PJ550 thread over on AV Forums.

Looked at the LG PJ350 Plasma (very similar) at Comet this week after viewing it in quite a few other retailers and it confirmed my believe that it is head and shoulders above anything in direct competition both in design, features and picture quality ... don't let the 720p put you off as the picture is absolutely stunning once set up correctly - the motion and clarity of picture for a budget set is superb.:-D

So good I am going for it myself - thanks!!

What is the power consumption of this? Apparently it has "Smart Energy Saving technology". Traditionally, plasma TVs use lots more electricity than LCDs.

Is this better than the Panasonic below? As the panny is out of stock at the minute?

How did you enter the discount code for collect & reserve?
#12
I would say that the PJ5500 would compete more with the X20 range of Panasonic Plasma and the C20 range is pretty much a back to basics approach by Panasonic to keep costs down - don't get me wrong it will still give a good end result.

Pluses for the LG:
Better modern sleek design
Sharper picture and better processing
More picture options and features
The option to play media via USB
Better Audio from inbuilt speakers

Pluses for the Panasonic:
Less chance of Image Retention
Solid & reliable Panasonic build quality

From what I have read and what I have seen LG have stepped up their range of Plasmas this year and have continued to make big advances in the last 2 or 3 years - that is a trend that is continuing. Whereas Panasonics budget range may actually be going the other way as they try and compete with LG and Samsung at that pricepoint.

At the top of the page there is a promotion code box for you to input the code. It does work as collected the tv earlier & only paid the discounted amount :-D

I dont see the promo code box :S

after putting the item in your basket on the basket page within a greey area at the top of the page just below the selection of tabs it should state
If you have a promotion code enter it here followed with a white box which says e.g.Comet1234 - You delete this & eneer the promotional code (which Im not allowed to type here) which should give you 6% off - Then click the blue SUBMIT button next to it - Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure you can't use the discount code for store collection, I've just tried and there's no option to input a discount code. I think scousewife might have Currys confused with Comet?
#18
discount codes are for online purchases only, they will not be honoured instore, so please do not ask

Yes I was talking about Comet as that is where I purchased the LG PJ350 - I did state that Id had reserved & collected it from Comet not Currys so I assumed that hashoo4 was enquiring about Comet as they had quoted me.

hashoo4 is the one confused not me :whistling:

See Savage_Gizmos' quote from the first page of this thread. I've gone for the Currys 550 personally as the difference in price is so little.

Mine was delivered at lunch time but after leaving specific instructions with the OH to ensure the delivery men unpack new TV, check for damage and remove old TV - NONE of these things were done! So, whilst we have a nice shiny new TV it is sat next to the huge old 32" CRT monster, still in the packaging until I get home from work to help the OH get it out of the box. Called Currys who are sending someone to collect the old one but not until Monday :(. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come!
