Experience Full HIGH Definition????
Spec indicates 1024 x 768
Rather misleading description in my opinion. Excellent price nonetheless, thanks for the post.

about £349.25 with Quidco..
#3
would there give me £100 for my old tv?

I doubt it, I think it's only on the Sony range at places like Tesco, John Lewis and the Sony Centres..

Hot - we bought this the other week when it worked out at £361 with quidco and are really pleased with it. Razor frame is great and we're really making use of the USB port too.

Too many deals, and too many conflicting opinions on them.

Is plasma really still better than new lcds? I have a 37" lcd and am swaying towards an upgrade with all these deals knocking about. I just dont know which will really perform better for standard tv and xbox!?
#7
Spec for Spec, plasma have better viewing angle. Even though LCDs show wide viewing angles, this does not mean you get full quality at those angles.

This TV might be good for some; As mentioned before, it is HD ready only and has only two HDMI ports (Pity)...

Not bad; not great imo

For standard TV plasma has the advantage, a no-brainer there. For gaming both have their strengths and weaknesses, plasmas have ultra-fast panel response time (typically 0.001ms) but some people (like me) can see phosphor lag on them, though you only really see it in rare instances.

LCD's are typically image retention resistant (it can happen though) but modern plasmas don't really have much issue with this now either unless you've got it stuck in retina-burning dynamic mode.

No Question, this is a brilliant deal

the 600hz must be great for playing games on but the lack on 1080p will certainly be a disadvantage when watching movies in HD or Bluray.

Looks good though:

I was tempted to buy the PJ350 from ASDA for £397 the other day... because my mate could've got me 10% off making it £357.

But what's the differences between the PJ350 and the PJ550?

PJ550 will play avi files(etc) and mkv(apparently-have yet to test) straight from USB, I believe the PJ350 doesn't.
#17
is there much visible difference in resolution of this tv and 1080 ?

PJ350, is the older model, hence the slightly different design and you cant play divx videos through usb connection, everything else is pretty much the same.

if i end up buying any of these 600hz lg tv's it would most likely be the 42PQ6000 as it has the XD engine and consumes as little energy as a standard LCD

Depends on your viewing distance and what you're using with the TV.

600Hz is just marketing spin, it's the sub-field drive number which has been the same on plasmas for years, the actual refresh rate of the panel is (I think) 100hz.

As for the lack of 1080p, again, it depends on your viewing distance.

As mentioned the only real difference is the ability to play AVI, DivX and MKV files from the USB Port (whereas the PJ350 only allows Music and Jpgs) both the PJ350 and PJ550 are both 2010 models and pretty decent performers for this cash - the audio is also surprisingly decent as well if you don't have a home cinema system to hookup.

no its the better version, XD engine is meant to bring standard non-high def picture to high def like quality. there no way the TV without the XD is better

Seems like a very good deal

Currys website
LG 42PJ550 42" - Save £100 by providing us with any old TV when we deliver your new one (NON TRADE IN PRICE £479)

Simply add this TV to your basket and when we deliver it to your door, we'll take away your old set, and recycle it, free of charge - Saving you £100! easy.

Seems they've reworded the product page.

Bargain for those that got it. Talking full HD its all relative, if you are going to use freeview hd or freesat hd they only transmit at 1080i and this will never change. Plus 99% of 360 and ps3 games are 720p 1080i so for anything but Blu Ray or Sky / Virgin Hd you are not missing much. Blu Ray is still very much a specialist product makes up only 6% of overall media sales still so for most people this is a brilliant buy for the money IMO !

Also below 50" screen size at normal viewing distance of 6 - 8ft quality difference can be marginal to say the least, its all down to transfer / transmission quality.

Lol I can get my hands on an old 50" Rear Projection TV - I would love to see the delivery blokes faces when I trade that in and they have to lift it down 3 sets of stairs.:-D

Looking through the site it looks like they have also magically put £100 on the price of each TV so it is obviously just a different marketing ploy.:whistling:

Nope, that's marketing drivel. The XD engine actually resulted in fairly average upscaling, and all the 2010 models are an improvement on that score.

On top of that, the newer models have much better black levels, and more accurate colours.

Cheers for the help guys.

It's still showing £379 on Reserve and Collect.... I used to work for Dixons Stores Group in 2005 and on the Eclipse system you used to be able to get 10% staff discount on top of the £379 web price when you did Reserve and Collect.....

Can anyone tell me if you can stil do this? Because I have mates that can still get me 10% off which would make it £341.
