Are plasmas better than lcd ts ?

Bought this from Dixons about 4 months ago on a pricematch for £420, brilliant TV for price range, Argos were selling this model for £700+.

Loads of features and a good options for calibration to improve picture quality. also you can play DIVX through the USB. It is only HD-Ready, but SKY HD is only 1080i anyway......

It has a one-piece glass front, so be wary where you put it as the reflection can be noticeable in a light room.

Third comment before Full HD was mentioned, not as quick as it used to be :P

Generally yes, although for rooms with high ambient lighting I wouldn't recommend one as they tend to reflect more light off their panel on the lower-end models.

Not a full shilling.

Next we will have someone saying it's res is only 1024 x 768.

There is NO case for whether Plasma / LCD / LED is better than either. Each do things differently and are suited to different needs / viewing habits etc. A 'techy' should be able to verify this also. Plasmas ( generally ) produce better blacks and are better for fast moving stuff - like sport.

In terms of this deal / OP / top find, heat added !

just a quick question, i am not up to date on TV knowledge, but surely this 1080p set for an extra £50 would be a better purchase?

Being as what you'd call a 'techy' I'll say what I said again, generally plasma is better than LCD in basically every respect, bar rooms with high ambient lighting where the reflective nature of the cheaper models can cause problems.

really worthwhile to get the five year warranty. These flat screen TVs are not as durable as the CRT TVs in the old days. I have two CRT TVs hoping they will be broken soon so that I can replace yet they are as durable as eternity.. Recently moved to a rented property in Malaysia, the Hitachi flat screen no longer works two months after the one year warranty expires. Hitachi ppl want to fix it for 100 pound for a 32 inch LCD TV - probably half the cost of the getting a new one.I hardly watch the TV at all...

I bought one of these a while back its a nice tv but be warned it is HIGHLY reflective i have it on the wall opposite a window and during the day its impossible to watch without closing the curtains.

Not sure how great a deal this is as it's very limited stock, and as it's reduced I'm guessing it's an older model and won't have some of the more modern features. Still, bloody good price for a 42" Telly with a score of 9.3/10 on Testfreaks, can't go wrong if you're on a budget.

You are falling into dangerous territory and thus believing that ALL 1080p TV's are better than ANY 720p TV's!! Resolution is only a part of the make up of what makes a decent TV ...:p
