  Yes banding is notorious on these passive LG sets. You only see it on panning shots with a light background, like football etc. In all other aspects though, stunning sets.

  Yep i have the same TV although its the 550 version its identical apart from the 650 has 200hz , and it does suffer with banding but only on light background, you only really notice it on football and golf.
  
  If you are heavily into sports i wouldn't get this tv, luckily mine has only very light banding some people have it pretty bad, but once you notice it you cant help looking for it
  
  In fact im thinking of exchanging mine for something else, there is a huge thread on AV forums

  You'd see it on football believe me!, Ive had 4 and 3 of them had banding the other didnt but had no tv tuner, Now awating a sony 52HX900/03 as I give up with this model! Thing is on everything else this TV is Great!

  Banding is a shame cos the 3D is amazing on this set especially since it uses the cheap cinema style 3D glasses and that less likely to get headache like people do with the active 3D glasses

  i have the 550 and can honestly say its brilliant....i watch a lot of football and doesnt bother me.....think the advantages of these tvs far outweigh the disadvantages.....
  watching Goals on Sunday now and seems fine to me.....

  Hi. I have the 55LW650t and watch a lot of football on SKY both in 2D and 3D (no golf 'cos it is rather boring). I can't say that I have noticed any banding.
  
  The picture quality is as good as anything I have seen. I had one hell of a job getting a good demo before I bought though.

  When its panning from left to right you can see dark bands across the screen, very very annoying
