Not a panasonic but good price for a big decent set. hot!

This is a 'Vile' price-stay away from these cowboys if you can help it-not only due to the recent misprice issue but customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

If you are going to buy something from a retailer with poor customer service history I suggest only buy reliable brands-my experience of LG is that it is not very reliable. Extended gaurantee essential.

I have 2 LG TVs and both are going strong, never had any issues whatsoever.

Never understood why people like Panasonic TVs so much, my dad has one and picture quality is worse than my LG, and the remote doesnt work unless you are 2 feet away and in direct line of the IR sensor!

Avoid pixmania because they mispriced a tv and then their automated system took peoples money???

Or have they actually done something wrong?
#13
Lets just hope it doesn't go wrong as Pixmania are one of the worst companies ever when you have problems.

£561 with this code : PIXMAYUK14

"Use discount voucher code PIXMAYUK14 at the checkout to get this price.
Offer expires 12 May 2010 (in 4 days) - hurry! "

Still wouldn't use them at that price , crap company to deal with .
#15
Maybe not for all

But as in my purchase of Pixmania's mispriced TV, they only made a request for the money from my credit card they didn't actually claim the money. i.e they didn't take it, no refund was needed

My GF's Dad has this set and it's a cracker.

Great realistic picture on SD

However, my £25 Pixmania voucher isn't working...anyone else?
#16
Wait for the 2010 models to drop in price a bit - they're a lot better, indeed among the best sets on the market now. The pk350 is under £700 now, and dropping fast.
#17
I own this TV and tbh its bloody amazing for the price (I bought it for £700). If you can manage to get it any cheaper then I would snap it up.

Well within the Panasonic range there are a lot of different grades. Go for a Z or G model like the G10, G20 and you'll get an amazing set. Go for something like an S or U and maybe you won't be so impressed.
#23
Excellent set for an excellent price.
#24
bought this from Amazon last year, had an issue called them was told warranty was with LG not Amazon, called LG and they were EXCELLENT sorted the issue out straight away, UK call centre too, so as long as Pixmania can ship you it in one piece don't let warranties worry you.

as for the TV, be warned its like a sodding mirror, we often have to shut the blinds even on an evening to watch the TV, image retention improves once past the 200hr mark, though if you play games for say 90mins, it can take about 4hrs of viewing to remove static marks but they aren't noticeboard unless you are looking for them

Those who prefer Panasonic

Another issue you may want to consider as those contemplating legal action over the 'misprice' found out if things do go wrong who do you complain to, who is your contract with? Pixmania based in France or Pixmania based in UK.

OK, I bought this tv only yesterday. I have had my Toshiba regza LCD for a couple of years now and it has been perfectly fine but it is only 37", so I finally got round to upgrading to a larger model. I have always been a LCD fan but I 'turned the corner' and went for a plasma after many hours pouring over hundreds of reviews on the internet. The vast majority were 'bigging it up' and saying what a great set this is. So I decided to go with this and go get my first plasma (after many years of slating plasmas over lcd's).
So my purchase came from Richer Sounds for £540, it came from the Oxford branch originally priced at £599 but I got 10% off because the top of the box had been opened at some point. ( when I say opened, the tape had been cut! ) So I asked for 10% off and got it. Once I got it home it was very evident that it had never been out of it's box.
So once set up you realise how big 50 inches actually is until it is unboxed and switched on! WOW! After my many hours on the net I came across a site that told you the very best settings for picture quality set ups and without this you would never ever be able to do this and what a difference it made! The picture I thought looked great before I did this but after....................wow! I was even more made up than before, so I am officially converted to a 'plasma man'!
I run my Sky HD through it first and it looked amazing then played a blu ray through it.....................helloooooooooo!!! Another level! Colours, contrasts and vibrancy like no other, believe me when I say I am a real picky, fussy git when it comes to quality and when I took the plunge and when for an LG unit (which I debated for a long time) I can honestly say I don't regret it for a second! I am so made up with it and can't recommend it enough, once set up properly it really is the nuts! Its the best bit of kit I've bought in a long time don't let the LG name put you off, as many many people have said on numerous websites LG is now 'up there' with the best of the best sellers! If you have any doubts, get rid of them, go get one!!! :-D :-D :-D

awesome write up, thanks.

would you care to share your very best settings for those of us still contemplating getting this (well in my case waiting for the gf to sell her 37" LCD to her dad)

I know many will rightly point out that there are no generic settings that will be perfect on every set, and under every lighting condition; but these values may get you close to picture you like, and you can tweak from there. If they look horrid, then discard and move along

Go into MENU, then PICTURE. Go down to PICTURE MODE, then press OK. Change to EXPERT1, press OK. Then change each value to the following...

Contrast ........91
Brightness .....51
H Sharpness....56
V Sharpness....56
Colour............58
Tint ..............R11

Then press OK on EXPERT CONTROL and set the following...

Dynamic Contrast.....Off
Noise Reduction.......Off
Gamma...................Medium
Black Level..............Low
Film Mode................(Off)
Colour Standard........HD
Colour Gamut...........Wide
Edge Enhance...........Off

White Balance...Medium
Pattern.............Outer
Red Gain 2
Green Gain 0
Blue Gain -2
Red Offset 2
Green Offset 1
Blue Offset 3

Colour Management System

Red Colour -1
Red Tint 2
Green Colour 2
Green Tint -1
Blue Colour 1
Blue Tint 0
Yellow Colour 2
Yellow Tint 2
Cyan Colour 0
Cyan Tint 0
Magenta Colour -2
Magenta Tint 2

Then CLOSE, and press MENU to exit the menu.
I also switch off the Energy Saving (top left button on the remote)

See what you think. If they don't work for you, you can always change back to STANDARD or CINEMA etc. The main improvement I found with these settings is foliage/grass/nature scenes.

LG are a massive global brand that provide their own "tubes" for lots of different brands, including budget ones. Panasonic, on the other hand, make only for their own products. This means that you don't get a compromise in any way.

Someone said here they don't understand why Panasonic is a preference to other brands? Perhaps it is because it offers the best-in-market contrast and colour balance ratios, perhaps it is because they have the best reliability (my parents had their Panasonic for years and never had it repaired, latest one still going strong and no "standing 2ft in front of tv" to get remote to work). Perhaps it is also the reason that Panasonic is the ONLY tv brand out there that is endorsed by THX for sound quality as well.

Finally, someone has said they got burn-in from static images like games???? OMG, then clearly YOU have got the wrong TV as I play Call of Duty MW2 on my PS3 for at least 4 hours at a time, and no sign of burn in on my 50" Panasonic...

good stuff
the only thing I never likes about Panasonic sets is the non swivel base they sit on.

Some of the LG plasma range is now THX certified as well.
not the one mentioned here but some of the higher range ones.

Right, so why exactly are you quoting from my earlier post? Are you sure you weren't supposed to quote woody 72's post??? Seems a bit odd as mine bares absolutely zero resemblance to your fascinating input!

This is what I was asking about...
It's not a negative review, just asking if anyone else with this set ha the same problems.

What about the gaming screen burn issue mentioned a few posts before?

I bought this tv and have screen burn and image retention issues - My girlfriend used it to listen to radio 1 (there is a specific button for this on the tv remote) and I now have the logo burned into the screen!

The set is on whole good value with quite a good picture quality although some people (myself included) have issues. Be careful.
#40
So if you get image retention issues, surely it is not fit for purpose and you simply return it for a refund ?

Am I missing something here ? It doesn't work so take it back.
