Don't forget Nectar eStores points with Amazon - same at Dixons if you want higher £back and to deal with DSG (as if!).

superb tv, had a 42" panasonic s20b plasma and decided to exchange it for this. I paid £664 a month ago and that was a bargain.

600hz!

120Hz required for 3D via nVidia vision...
So does that mean that this TV can do 5x the 3D effect? ;)

600Hz isn't the on-screen refresh rate, it's to do with the sub-field drive, the actual rate of refresh on the panel will be 100Hz.

to get wifi you need a dongle sold extra, its has ethernet so you can plug internet in . youtube is via internet connection. It also has 2 usb inputs to attach a hard drive or usb stick for watching movies pics or music!

The actual refresh is still only 24/50/60hz depending on source input. Trying to input 100hz into this monitor will just give "signal out of range" messages.

The panel will refresh at 100Hz when you send 50/60Hz signals to it, it'll process it and display it at 100Hz.

This is the Tv I have £100 off what I paid for it in June very good set works well with PS3 and Xbox 360 also HD works well.

Be aware though if you in wales you will get BBC HD , ITV HD and S4C HD and not Channel 4 HD which i was a bit gutted with.

Overall very good set though even the sound isn't even that bad.

I use a 200Gb Homeplug and a 5 port Hub ... to connect to my other add ons around the TV...

Yes, very.
#16
but is LCD better?
#17
whats the power consumption?
#18
This is a great tv. Beware though, the screen is VERY reflective
#20

and it only consumes 190 watts when in operation. thats great for a plasma. especially a 50" one
#21
How does it compare with a panasonic?

Depends on what LCD you're comparing it with, but I'd generally say yes unless you're in a room with high ambient lighting.

How does it compare with a panasonic?

Very well, it's not too far off the G20.
#23
Get the cheaper LG50PK350 instead.

The 590,990etc all plagued with issues and firmware problems.
#24
This television is amazing, and at this price is cheaper than the rrp of the cheaper (less equipped) PK350 model.

I purchased through Amazon who were superb, was worth the few pennies extra to get it delivered faster. Ordered Sat evening, came Tuesday morning.

Couldn't recommend it enough!!

na normal for plasma
#29
lovely set. gonna get it from Dixons with quidco cos although I work for DSG, they won't pricematch Dixons online and so they leave me no choice.
#30
Got this when first came out for £800 which was great deal at time. Love this set, picture quality is outstanding, especially from hd sources. Razor frame looks simply stunning, hard to find a better looking tv.
#31
some of these guys obviously dont know what a good tv is,ive just got one of these sets after hearing good things about them, coming from a philips 47 inch 8 series ive got to say this tv is awful compared to that,sd content looks like pure ****(the inbuilt freeview is ok-BUT the analogue signal looks better) the sound is fine, but the image retention is much much worse than i was expecting

hd content does look good(exept bbc hd,but i think that could be down to what the beeb broadcast)

and it plays 1080p mkv files off the bat-overall i wouldnt recommend this tv and wish id never bought it,i would much prefer to have my philips lcd back

and in my opinion anyway ,theres no way in hell that plasma is better than lcd
#32
The Phillips have much worse contrast than these , and less accurate colours.

If you like garish, oversharpened and inaccurate, then sure, a Phillips LCD is for you.
#33
well id take that over blurry muted colours this thing has anyday

seen none of that. out store model is sat playing a blu ray demo all day, sometimes demoin freeview HD. not set on vivid, we set them all on the expert settings found on AVforums.
no image retention at all.
colours look fine, not muted at all.

the only tv in the range that looks better is the Panasonic s20 next to it.
just don't like the 'classic' look of the panasonics.

have the 590 and 350 next to each other and the whites are much whiter on the 590. on the 350 they're a kind of cream-ish.
even the samsung 50 next to it had better whites.

can't stand large LCDs, massive PC monitors with false colours and bad blacks.
#35
i agree it does have good blacks, although the whites i disagree on,ive used loads of different settings and mostly the whites look well,, dirty!!

ive got a sumvision media player, sky hd and a ps3 and all of them leave some form of image retention, the media player is the worst for this,it has a small screen-saver(lol) that bounces around the screen when its not been used for a while and you can see every where its been its that bad

vivid is a horrible setting,to be honest out of the built in settings sport looks the best-and that's almost identical to vivid

ive just purchased the dve bluray in the hope of getting it something like decent since im stuck with it now,i really wouldn't recommend this set to anybody the best thing about it is the price for a 50incher which i suppose is ok,but there's no way i can say plasma is better than lcd (but that is only based on this set over numerous lcds ive had)
#36
if you're getting IR, then you have your settings too high.

plasma is set up correctly is miles better than LCD. go see AVforums and get the best settings for your screen.
#37
i get ir on all the in built settings and several ive tried from av forums

Hey mate, i just ordered this tv. I searched over AVForums for the optimum settings you were talking about but couldn't find the thread, could you be nice enough to share the link? Cheers.

Been looking for 50 for months now, always waiting for some deal to come out. And this was one of the tvs i was looking at. And for last two or so months the price fluctuated alot seen 800, 719, 689, 800 and now this price. The prices iv seen where from dixons and currys. Think comet always had it set high(?)

In anycase i took a good look at it two weeks ago but when i went to see it last week it was 800 so im gonna see about buying ut in the morning.

It is reflective but not as much as the jp350 we have at work so i can live with the reflection. I am worried about ir but the one at work goes thro more abuse than ill ever put this one thro(getting for parents actually). like iv said prices has changed alot so if you do want it check out the reflection in person and know it will look better in your roon than the store. And for this price and size you cant beat it. Or you could always wait for xmas or see if there is a vat sale befor it goes to 20%

Sol

Edit:
right got home and ordered the tv from dixons thro quidco. i was given date on when it will be delivered so i chose the nearest and it said Monday, can anyone confirm who they use to mail tvs? will mine come monday or am i looking at tuesday because of holiday?

i get sunday and mondays off so would really be happy if it came monday.

Edit 2:quidco tracked for £19.47 :D

at avforums in the LG section theres 2 whole threads about the pk590.

also dixons use their own vans for delivery. sometimes they are marked Currys/Dixons/PCworld. sometimes they arent.
depends on stock at the local and national warehouses.
