great spec for the price

I have owned this TV for a month now. A few things:

Best value for money set perhaps at the moment.
Picture is very good, not mind blowingly vibrant like the newer LED's.
Perhaps best suited for HD film watching, it has excellent THX callibration.
It has a very reflective screen.
No issues at all with Image retention or burn (has a few options to prevent this if it occurs).
Sound is pretty good, obviously seperate amp etc required for optimisation.
Richer sounds also do it at this price with a reasonable warranty for 5 years.

I am happy with the set. Great value for money.

Which is better, this or the Samsung PS50C550?

I know this has Freeview HD but thats not important to me so how do they line up other than that? Am no expert and would like an upgrade to console myself from World Cup misery, roll on the Premier League :)

Yeah but only Dixons out of those 3 stores are half decent - just read all the negative feedback about the other 2 stores on the AV Forums, particularly in their dodgy warranty small print!!

You have been warned!

Stick with Dixons and their discount code and Quidco :)

Nearly bought this and good thing I checked the specs, the TV itself is not DLNA compatible as it does not have ethernet or wifi built in which is what I am looking for. It can be used with a DLNA compatible Blu Ray player or PS3 etc but that adds to the cost. Keep looking I guess.

If you do decide to look for the cheapest deal and think about buying from ElectroCentre > DON'T DO IT!! They are the worst online retailer I have ever had the missfortune of using. Nice as pie before you do the deal, but once delivered, if you have problems, you are on your own, they literally walk away and pretend there is no problem. I am amazed they haven’t been shut down from trading, just check their reviews online, and you will see I'm not alone with this view.

I purchased as American style fridge freezer from them, knocked down in price by £150 because it as a small dent at the bottom of main fridge door - not a problem for me, so I asked for pictures and confirmation that there was no other damage. They confirmed that was the only damage, and even offered to deliver into the kitchen, which I was pleased about. After I had paid and the item was delivered, their very rude delivery guy refused to even take the fridge into the house and left it on the door step out side the house! I couldn’t get it in the house on my own... its a beast of a fridge. Then I found at least 3 other dents on it. They refused to collect it and insisted I pay for the return myself, they then didn’t reply to any e-mails or take calls.... I'm now working out what I can do ... Trading Standards / Small Claims Court... bottom line is stay away from this place unless you want to be stung too.

I would go with Dixons or pay the extra for the great service that Amazon offer.

You can connect an ethernet cable, if that's what you meant? There is an ethernet port at the back of the TV and I use it to watch videos on Youtube and for photos on Picasa.

I bought this TV about a month ago from Amazon (it was a few quid more at the time).

It's brilliant, the picture is very crisp and it's incredibly thin for a Plasma TV. When the Sky engineer came round to install the HD box he mistook it for a LED panel.

The only downside is the very reflective screen, and depending on your room this could be a potentially massive downside compared to other similar size TV's. I have a large open plan lounge/dining room in my apartment, with two large windows and glass balcony doors. The reflection during the day when the window blinds are open makes the TV almost unwatchable. The reflection of the light coloured wall opposite is so overpowering and distracting.

In darker other rooms there will be no problem with the reflection, so don't let this put you off what is otherwise a great TV at a fantastic price.

A fantastic TV with a great spec, not sure where Robaart does his research but it DOES have an ethernet socket on the back it and is compatible with certain Wi-Fi adapters and is DLNA certified!

Just dont position it opposite a window or in a room that gets flood with daylight! If you have a very bright room then look at the 50PK790 or 50PK990 which are more expensive but have anti-reflective coatings.

If you can afford to go for the 60" version too. Glad I did. You'll soon be bored with your 50" version and wish you'd of saved up for a real beauty of a 60" screen :)

hey guys, best part about it is, movies on a usb stick or HDD and supports fat32 and ntfs (supports big hdd like 1tb too). plays divx and best of all its plays mkv's (Bluray rips)

"Which is better, this or the Samsung PS50C550?"

I sent this same set back. DON'T get the Samsung, it is pants. Also check out the 550 551's 'buzzing fault'. PK590 all the way.

Bought this TV from Dixons 2 weeks ago, It's brilliant original picutre needs abit of fiddiling but after that the colours are awesome also could do with a sorround sound system as the TV speakers arn't the best but I'll have to save for one of those.

Overall this TV is awesome and you wont regret it.

But only downside is reflection on the screen in bright conditions.
#17
This is better than the Samsung............with one massive exception, the reflections. You need to shield it from direct sunlight, and ideally for movies you want to watch in a totally dark room with only a tiny light behind the screen.

LG's 2010 models are excellent, but they really need to work on their anti-glare technology. Even the top end models with extra coatings aren't very good on that score.

This is now £687.50, perhaps the title should be changed.

back to £715 at Amazon

I bought this tv after this link for £688 from Dixons.

Great TV, 4x HDMI, Youtube not bad and doesnt look that bad blown up, hopefully theyll do a software update so I can Choose the HD versions of videos.

The network play of movies works great, plays AVI,s , MKV's no problem at all and all in HD glory!

No problem with ghosting, image or anythign at all. Screen is very reflective but in the evening that makes no difference as the light in the room is low and even during the day its not that bad.

Sound is of normal quality you'd expect of a thin tv.

Next test....the xbox 360!

The ghosting issue is the only thing that is putting me off this set? Has anyone else noticed it or has the problem been sorted?
