I've had my eye on this for a while. Has anyone got any clues if it can be used as an external blu-ray drive if connected via USB to a MAC?

By the way, this comes with a free 25GB Blu-ray disc, if you click on bundles :-)

I have used this unit for about 6 months now. I don't believe you are able to connect it via USB to use the blu-ray player but it does allow iScsi connection but not for protected media. This is one of the best entry level NAS devices I have seen.

Benn looking at these myself, this is a great price but I'm tempted to wait until after Christmas.

IF (and I do stress this) you have hard disks already to use and don't need the BluRay Writer there is this LG NAS on Amazon UK to consider.

£89.99p (Including Free Delivery) - LG N2R1D 2 Bay DVD Network Attached Storage Enclosure: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
Embedded Amazon UK Link

If I bought the Amazon one would it be possible to swap the DVD drive for a Blu-ray one that I already own?

Would this allow me to put a bluray movie disk in and watch in 1080p on my TV via WD Media Player (WD TV Live)?

Afraid not no - you would need to swap out the optical drive with a BluRay drive.

Not really - if you don't need BluRay and already have hard disks available to install into it.

Shame it can't be connected via USB to a MAC. Would have killed two birds with one stone there.

I got one of these back in August on another deal, fine as a NAS but I've found it to be rubbish for streaming media to other devices, even with the third party firmware that supports Twonky. Also never been able to get the network printing functionality working. There is limited support to be found on the web.

Thinking of getting one of these to stream DVD ISOs to my AC Ryan but reviews for media streaming are mixed. Anyone got any thoughts?
