Why do people post things like:"My last one lasted 10 or 12 years, amazing quality, would buy this one"What has anything built in a different factory, by different people, to different standards, out of different materials, to a different design, with different people deciding the price of parts etc etc etc, of 12 years ago, have to do with something built today?

You're absolutely right. They're completely bonkers. It would be much more logical to post: "My last one lasted 10 or 12 years, amazing quality, so I wouldn't buy that brand again".

I remember (many years ago) our current LG cost over £1k for a lesser model. This bargain needs to be bagged asap.

The Zanussi at AO for same price with the £30 off seems better deal. If only because it's white!

I have this, it's a workhorse. Previous LG lasted 11 years and I expect similar from this. Nothng would tempt me to buy a different brand of washing machine ever.

You might have to add on the £60 AO charge for disconnection of old machine, connection and recycling. And what's wrong with silver? White seems old-fashioned to me.

Went for this as our 10 year old machine has seen better days, Mrs has been reading the reviews and she's saying it doesn't wash at 30 degrees, does that really matter?

Yeah, LG make good machines, bought ours in 2006 and still going strong.
Only maintenance it's needed is cleaning the filter thanks to our Jack Russel.

It has a delicates cycle 20 degrees I think. I would check but it's doing what it does best, washing a load (_;)

I'm going to download the manual now, sure it must be more eco friendly than what's it's replacing.

Also a quick question for you experienced washing pros. How important is the lint filter? Many do not have them these days.
#27
Looks like the free installation and recycling option is out of stock now.

How much should I expect to pay for installation. I don't have one to recycle. The plumbing of washing machine should be there.

Reputation?
Counts for a lot.
I guess you don't research anything for reliability unless it's been made in the last 6 months.

I agree that USED to be the case, and still is at the high end, but the £200 / £300 mark I'm not so sure.
The build so it last a few years then throw it away is todays way.

I remember when Grundig used to be the mutts for Audio gear

I bought an LG 8kg direct drive from Currys 6 months ago. She is quiet, she washes well even on a 59 minute wash, she is trouble free and she sings a delightful tune when she has finished. She is supreme and I love her.

I recently purchased a DXA59BC3 Hoover washing machine from curry's on the bank holiday weekend for £269 + £25 installation. It's back up to £319.99 on the website.

Was this LG washing machine a better option in terms of build and price?

Is this LG washing machine better?

Yes, infinitely better. I too bought a Hoover washer from Curry's, 6 1/2 months ago. She died within two weeks of receipt, presenting an error message which Hoover CS confirmed was fatal. It wasn't exactly confidence-instilling to see the Hoover badge on the washer door had been fixed askew at the factory. Anyway, she was picked up by Currys and replaced with the LG, which is worlds apart.

Sorry, I don't understand. Its a totally different product from 12 years ago. Just because it has the same name printed onto the front.
In an IDEAL world, where people don't cut corners and "money men" try and save every penny then sure.
But that's not the world we live in.
We are talking cheap, mass produced items, cut to the nearest penny, not luxury items.
I agree, it SHOULD be the way you describe. But a device made 12 years ago, generally will share nothing to a device made today other than the label.
Again. I'm speaking of low end. You pay £1000+ and you will get something nice.
In fact if you paid £400 12 years ago, you probably need to pay £1000 today for the same thing

Hoover is sort of an own label brand for Candy now. Hoover machines are mostly Candy designs made with Candy parts. I've never owned one, but Candy products often get bad reviews, though you also see plenty of reviews of Hoover washing machines that are positive. Overall, I would say LG is a more reliable make than Hoover.
