Can I just use the speakers. I've got a sony Tv (KDL-46NX713U) and the S470 Blu-Ray player. I can then sell the LG player. Possibly make the most of my money back

Why on earth quote that highly inflated price!!!!

£156 at Pixmania And £207 in Dixons and it has often been available at less than £200 since Sept 2010.

By Mr. Km Flak - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: LG HB405SU 5.1 Blu-ray Home Cinema System with DLNA & BD Live (Electronics)
+ 2 optical aduio in
+ clear strong sound
+ long cables from satellites
+ DVDs and BluRays works perfect
+ "Speaker Level" and "Sound Effect" are useful

- poor SimpLink, need 2 remotes anyway
- lack features of software
- Problem with video codecs: many MKV, AVI files cant play (avarge 7 on 10)
- Problem with some multi-audio-stream MKV files: no sound, sound delayed or interrupts
- Problem with scrolling in some MKV, AVI movies: just 2x forward or backward (not faster) or even cant scrolling
- Cant jump to choosen time in movie or MP3 track
- Problem with scrolling MP3 with long lenght: scrolling only 5x faster
- Problem with hang on at random times but no too often: device stop and turn off itself.
- Delayed sound from TV freeview
- Slow turning on and slow menu
- Cant play WMV
- weak signal from remote control

....because it proves that my deal is HOT :)

PS. you try to manipulate by bringing up the lowest rating review from all 33 (twenty five are 5 stars, six were 4 stars, only one review has 2 stars and one 3 stars - the one you quoted)

Thanks OP.

Looks great value for money and good write ups on the AV forum, which is normally where you get a true report on these sort of items.

Just what I was looking for last night. Glad I waited. :)

Got exited then as in the market for something like this.

Only thing that stopped me was a lack of a headphone jack - needed sometimes.

When you want to use phones why not plug them into the TV?

You can still listen through the speakers to anything displayed on the TV.
#17

An important clarification. Its £10 on top for postage to the North of Ireland (and possibly other harder to reach places in GB) which you wouldn't have when ordering direct from Amazon. :(

Cost me an extra tenner to get mine down to Cornwall. If I did not have this horrendous hangover I would start setting mine up.
#25
Well I hope that I can still use my LG recorder (Scart connectivity ONLY) with this baby.
#26
do you end up with loads of wires all over the place from the speakers?

No scart ,but not a problem as scart to composite adapters cheap and available.Theres probably one floating around in the box from the recorder.

Thankyou OP, have ordered me one... should get £50 for my current Blu Ray Player.... so essentially £100 for surround sound.
#33
Bought one yesterday from richer sounds as they matched the amazon price. I do i get it to work through my TV?

I have connected it via HDMI?
#34
Has anyone found any problems with this set or do I have a duff one?

On some of the sound settings not all the speakers are working when using the basic Sky box (Not Sky+ or HD) for input via phono.

Not expecting great hi-fi this way but certainly expected all speakers to be issuing sound in ALL the settings i.e natural, bass etc.

Not over impressed with the quality of sound either.

Has also occasionally 'Frozen' after fast forwarding a DVD and then hitting 'Play'.

Seems pretty poor quality to me.

Also LG Cust Service is REALLY poor.
I also have the PJ650 Tv but based on my experience with their so called tech dept, I will NEVER buy another LG product again.
#35
Mine keeps losing sound for about 5-10 seconds now and then, not sure if mine has to go back. alsolike the previous poster stated, sometimes the sound only comes out of the centre and front speakers, I have to change the sound setting to a different sound effect to get sound through all 5 speakers.

Alot of sky broadcasting doesn't actually provide 5.1 sound. I think some of the presets on the player provide a virtual surround sound which may be why you get it on some but not on others.
I have this player but I do not really use it that often for listening to Sky.

Not over impressed with the quality of sound either.

As for the sound quality, I am impressed with the sound quality of mine and I paid £210 a few months back which I believe is a lot of bang for your buck! (£150 is nothing at all for a 5.1 Blu-Ray system). Perhaps it is defective, or maybe you are expecting high-end quality for little cash!

Remember that alot of the "higher end" systems cost upwards of £4-500 and from reading comments over at AVForums, it performs well against the more expensive systems.
