Heat Added, very nice price and ordered tonight yay!
#3
Super hot deal!
#4
Just bought one! Has optical in which is found on much more expensive models!
#5
Would this work in LG blu-ray player as well as xbox?
Could always sell the dvd player
#6
cymru ...you could but you would need to keep the orginal as thats where you would link your blu ray too. not the most amazing sounding system bass is def not deep enough
#7
to connect a blu ray you would go oprical audio in and leave the blu ray connected to your tv via hdmi ?
#8
According to the spec this has "Inputs Mic-in (6.3mm) ". Is this true? As the LG Site makes no mention of this!

Thanks in advance
#9
that's what I thought. I realise it's not the best, but pretty decent for the price.
Cheers

K, interested in this but I have Sky box, PS3 and Wii to plug in. I have an LG tv with optical digital audio out so could i just connect from tv to this surround and get full effect of surround from all sources (Obviously what is being watched)? Obviously I appreciate Sky and wii not 5.1 but would I still get PS3 or loose something by doing this?
#11
So is worth the money ?? If so I will get 1 Also are speakers ok on the floor ??
#12
Can't find what this handles codec wise - I assume it does DTS but no mention of it anywhere....

Sometimes I think these things only decode DTS etc. from the internal DVD player due to licensing costs :|

Edit: doesn't seem to do DTS see here

Just a point worth mentioning.

I have an LG sound system which is part of the DVD recorder.

There is NO SEPARATE BASS/TREBLE control!

All you can do is increase volume to the front or rear Etc but cannot alter the tone at all.

I would definitely want a Graphic Equaliser with this item.

SOUND GALLERY is probably a set of different reverb/echos. Ie Pop, Rock, Classic. Etc.

I have this unit, had it for around 1 month, bought it with my LED TV.

Its good, The menu is a bit shabby and its refused to play any movie from a USB that ive chucked at it. Plays MP3s fine.

The music playback is good, But i have a set of Bose on the PC for that. For TV stuff its great.

Im not sure if its a feature of my TV or 5.1 but i know it decodes Dolby 2, I have my Wii connected and set up through component. And the TV Outputting to the 5.1 (in optical mode) and i can hear 5.1 and was truly amazed that a Wii could do that. it was a magical moment playing Zelda in surround :)

I use a Optical Switcher for the inputs for my 5.1 unit. bought it from eBay for like £5 (Item No: 200447704816)

I have my Xbox 360, Sky+HD and TV, Connected at the moment, I found that the sounds were richer when coming from a Optical Out device rather than through the TV first, Sadly my blu ray player doesn't have optical out, But it seems to sort of work through the TV (was the HMV £50 jobby)

Overall the sound is clear and crisp, The bass doesn't really kick in until its turned up quite a bit, So i have had to reduce the volumes of all the speakers to negative values and turn the sub right up. But when its going its clear, The centre speaker could do with turning up to make the voices alot clearer

It has a mixture of Equalizer modes also, I usually leave mine on PII Music.

The rear speakers come with a fair bit of cable, but it wasn't quite long enough for my room so had to get some speaker wire to extend them.

Setup is easy and all the cables are colour coded.

There is a front panel which has the USB Port, There is also a 3.5mm jack labeld 'Port In' It also has direct recording support but dont know what this is for, im guessing the radio stations? Even the Aux in sounds good from the iPod

The unit is quite quick, and being able to control it through my LG TV remote 'Simplink' is amazing. Its a bit of a pain that you have to re-pair it each time you switch it on, I don't know if this is normal but its the first time ive had a feature like this to use.

Sound Quality 3/5
Menu 2/5
Ease of Use 4/5
Looks 3/5
Features 3/5
Price 5/5

Total 4 / 5

Sounds great when playing MW2 on the xbox, This is also another major reason of purchase (you need to learn about the VGA + HDMI Cable hack, if you dont want to buy an expensive cable from M$)!

I would recommend this unit as a cheap 5.1 with optical in, the main reason i bought it (I also paid £99 from Currys/PC World). I know none of the above make sense :D but i hoped it helped.

Pixmania, as well as Currys and PC World, are part of Dixons group, so that explains the same price.
However you pay delivery with Pixmania.

Just done alot of searching around and it would appear that on most tv's, the optical out will only be in stereo from external equipment such as ps3, xbox and the like. However, they do seem to be 5.1 if received from the internal tuner (Freeview). To confuse matters, some do seem to support 5.1 loop through, however I can't find anything on my tv!

Anyway gonna get it and use a switcher thing if necessary!

I do think its a major factor in the TV also. As all of my equipment stream through the 5.1 fine through the TV then optical out into this unit. so i think its all down to your TV if it can support it. I don't know what the technology would be though. Even works through component from Wii :)

You just get better quality if you can do a direct connection between xbox and 5.1 / DVD etc :)

Most stores of the 'dixons group' will have stock as they are trying to make way for new products. They were flogging this as half price if bought with a TV. I wouldn't be surprised if the price gets even lower in the coming months. But then stock will start to thin out.

I would try and get it from a store, They were more than happy to half the price when i bought it. And it was a nationwide deal (at the time i got mine)

Got it from Amazon with speaker stands for only 45 pounds more so not too bad in all!

Still available, dunno why this is expired?

I am tempted by this but I have a set of Bose Acoustimass 3 which I have in my living room and would like to keep using. Could I hook this up to them and just add in the rear speakers and then connect my 360 and TV to it? That's all I need it for.
#26
PS - could I also connect my iPhone via 3.5mm to RCA?

You are not getting proper 5:1 surround ( dolby digital or DTS) . You are getting Dolby Pro-Logic2 which is from a stereo source ( not a 6 channel surround source). It may sound like surround sound ( as all 6 speaker will output something) , but its not 6 independant sound channels.
You should be aiming for it to show either Dolby Digital ( or AC3) or DTS on the display. When it shows that on the display you are getting true 6 channel surround sound. Trust me you will notice the difference.
#28
Can anybody tell me how the speakers connect? Is it the dual bare wire connectors?
#29
One thing I could also do with knowing is the length of the speaker cable!
#30
Nobody? Anybody?
#31
they got speaker wires like the good old style ones wires are quite long on the rear speakers but not so long on the fronts which makes sense
#32
nice speakers

I'm really thinking about buying this one. I've got the same issue as a couple of others here.

I recently bought an LG lcd TV and the only audio output it has is optical. My 360, and Sky go straight into the TV and I want to go from the TV to a 5.1 system through the optical. I just want to be sure that the 360 and Sky will go through all the speakers and subwoofer and not just through the front 2.

IlesKevinPC1 seems to have it going through all the speakers so I know it's possible, even tho it may not be true 5.1. If it is dependent on the TV what do I need to look for on my TV? How can I tell if it's capable?

Any help would be appreciated guys! I've been looking for a cheap surround system with optical for ages and this could be it
