Been looking for a good deal on a LG Viewty on a 12 Month Contract. Came across this deal from Dial-A-Phone. Works out cheaper to have this contract than to buy the phone.

Network: 02 200 - £30 Per Month, 12 Month Contract

£70 Cashback

£60 Quidco

Total Term (Without Quidco): £290

Total Term (With Quidco): £230!!!

Good price for what looks like an awesome phone.

Was actually just about to post this one myself...well done for beating me! :P

Since I saw an advert in the Metro for this mobile last week, I just cant stop thinking about it... It's an incredible piece of kit. Where the iPhone put its focus into music, the Viewty puts it's focus into photography and video... Which is more suited to my interests... Im just trying to justify spending £19.16 a month on a mobile that's easily three times better than the K750i im currently using and spending £10 a month for the 300 free texts... Oops, that done it - im sold!

Before I take the plunge... This would be my first contract phone (if I go for it)... Is dial a phone an OK place to deal with should anything go wrong? With dial a phone are the cashbacks simple enough to do? Is it really just a case of filling in a form at month 6, 9 and 12 and you get the cash? or is there more to it? On this deal im getting 200mins and texts... Does dial a phone or o2 have a way of letting you check your 'usage' online or do you just need to try and pace yourself? And finally... Should I go for the insurance? hmm... extra money, but if i lose the phone i'll be sorted... tough one.

I am confused with these figures. Can someone explain what to do.

Basically you go here: http://www.quidco.com/dial-a-phone/

1) Make sure you are registered on quidco...
2) Click the thin green banner to go to the site (you must click this for the quidco to track!)
3) Find the correct contract (LG Viewty on £30/mo o2 - gives you 200min and 200 texts per month)
4) Add to basket and check out

Theres also the £70 cashback which works by you sending Dial a phone your 6th, 9th and 12th bill and they give you £20, £25 and £25 back on those dates, respectively.

At least im 99% sure thats it... again, would be my first contract so still thinking about it myself.

Thats exactly right. Dial-A-Phone are highly respected for being quick and easy on cashback claims. They are part owned by CPW so no worries with this one. The 'MY Account' feature on the website even shows you what date bill you need to send and how long you have to send it. DAP gives you a month to send your bills. Its a pretty easy ride with this one. If you do get the deal (I signed up tonight) let me know, and 6 months down the line I will PM you a reminder lol.

Have been watching eBay and the average price a brand new sealed one is going for is around £260 to £290. I want the phone so much, and although the contract is cheaper than the phone alone (and you get free texts/mins monthly!) im having a difficult time actually comitting to it... Any psychologists here able to dissect me? :-P

I dont get it... Littlewoods have it for £330 which earlier I was all set on going for it over the 52 weeks interest free, then I noticed it was from TMobile so jumped back quickly. This SHOULD be an easy decision for me but it just isnt...no idea why.
#6
probably a silly question: if you wanted to change over to o2 from another phone provider can you keep your old number and get a new o2 contract? or not?
#7
If you need a more minutes/texts a month there is also the O2 400 tariff which offers 400 minutes and 500 texts per month.

You have to pay out more a month (£35) but you get £120 cashback instead of £70 so works out at £20 a month with quidco.

Am very tempted-does anybody have this handset already?
#8
A side question thats related more towards o2 themselves than the phone...

I use the Gmail mobile app on my k750i all the time... Costs about 10p to read some text emails and send a couple myself. I take it with the LG on a contract i'll just get billed the same "10p" on top of the monthly contract fee? Seems obvious enough but just checking...

And if you use web messenger, how much does it roughly cost on the o2 network for say about 15mins of chatting to someone?

Thats exactly the contract I took on Saturday

Looks like great value to me. I was on Virgin 300 mins 300 txts for 10 pm, but with this deal I get more mins & texts & a new cracking phone:)

£20 a month for 400 mins & 500 texts & a Viewty, very happy with this:thumbsup:

Mine tracked in Quidco within hours.

I can highly recommend this phone. I would be wary of getting It via O2 though as they ruin the phone with their O2 branding box which is stuck on the main screen of the phone, don't have all the extra apps as on 3 (messenger etc) and Its 3G and HDSPA coverage Isn't very good :)
Also download Opera Mini when you get It as Its so much better the the IE you get with it.

Are they? I don't think so. :? :? :?

Was speaking to someone from three there... MSN isnt compatible on the Viewty (yet) but if it gets the support, you will be notified of it. I just cant make up my mind...
#16
I can 100% confirm they are wrong. Messenger is working fine on my viewty, as is skype, youtube, facebook, ebay etc. Only one that isn't ready yet is Mobilcast but you can click on any podcast/mp3 link and the viewty will download it anyway.

Has the Viewty got Wifi?

Ive been looking at this phone too - but Im a bit thick I think - ok, it conects to the internet via wireless networks, but can anyone point out the extra data chrages when you want to go through the net works please. My preferred net work is also Orange. I just cant seem to work it out!

Oh - Does anyone know what other networks would be compatible with an orange sim card without getting the phone unlocked?

:) Hi Steve :friends:

Cheers for the info DevilD!

This phone is hot imo!! I saw a T-mob advert in the Metro, @30quid per mth but only for new customers - boo, hiss. Frankly I'm ready to move to O2 (grr T-Mob  ) but just cant decide about this offer...might wait til others have their viewtys and post reviews.

Also, I don't like the idea of O2 'defacing' the viewty as mastablasta mentioned...hmm.

Ooooh another question (again, probably stupid): how does GPS, emailing and general internet stuff fit into this deal? I mean...I don't understand the charges....since it just mentions minutes and texts....any more info on this? Cheers!

Edit: good question vbeardmore...that's something I wanna know too ;)

I cant believe that o2 would spoil the phone with their branding, I have to be honest but o2 are usually the best for not branding phones. So hopefully the branding is minimal (as with most o2 phones)

cnet says this phone doesn't have Wifi - are they correct?

They give it 8.2/10

Nope sadly it doesnt have wifi.

If you want wifi (which I myself cant see the point when you have a 1G allowance of high speed internet on the go for £5 on 3) just get the other model which is based on Windows Mobile. The camera is downgraded to 2M instead of 5M though.

another stupid question - does the 290quid/300quid O2 contract include internet usage?

Just been looking, o2 contract phones usually come unlocked. Fingers crossed.

Bryan, could you test something for me when you get it?

1) Install mobile Gmail and Google Earth (http://www.google.com/mobile/mail/index.html) to see if it works properly on the o2 network. The phone should come bundled with them but apparently o2 removed them.

2) The interface and screensaver is flash based... could you try chucking on some very simple SWF files and seeing if they open? Im interested because theres a lack of theme support it seems, but with flash you could create some awesome screensavers/wallpapers/themes for it.

I am new here, Can some one tell me if I go for this offer and use quidco, how does it exactly works, when you get £60 cash by quidco????
#33
According to the stats on Quidco for dial-a-phone it looks like it will be about 3 months to get the cashback. So order now and you'll probably get it around end of February-ish...
#34
How long did it take to track in quidco?
Ordered this morning early on and not tracked yet :(
#35
I like the look of this phone as you can use it as a modem for a laptop.

That said, can I only get the o2 equivalent of web n walk if I sign up with o2 and not through dial a phone?

Thanks
Mike

And they usually come unbranded also, at least my last 2 Sony's have. Can someone confirm that the Viewty comes with or without O2 branding/firmware????

Hey everyone, I can confirm that the viewty I received from Dial-A-Phone was unlocked and debranded. Its a generic sim free version. It comes pre-loaded with 3 themes that are all very cool, dont know how to get new ones on there though.

The phone is alot smaller than I thought, its very nice to hold and very slim. The camera is brilliant, alot better than my G600. The touch screen works brilliantly, its ultra responsive, and even though I have big hands, I find that I can text just as fast on the viewty as on my last phone. The handwritting feature is good, but its a novelty I wont use. So to sum it up its a high end phone thats easy to use, fantastic camera and video recording, and best of all - looks great.

Thanks for your review.

Have you tried opening MS-Excel files on it? Could you try this for me please & see if it works as you would expect?

This is something I use my current (O2) Xda Mini S for a lot, and would probably be the only thing I would miss about this handset.

I'm torn between this LG KU990 Viewty & the (updated) Nokia N95 8Gb (on Vodafone only, presently). My partner has the original N95 (on T-Mobile) & rates the camera highly (due to the same 5MP specification but also the Carl Zeiss lens).

The lack of Wifi is a bit disappointing on the Viewty though as it means no more checking prices of game titles online whilst stood in-store.

BFN,

fp.

I think im gonna go for this... I only ever top up by £10 a month and since it gives me 300 texts I never touch the tenner, and it gets used the following month so basically the tenner lasts a while... Which makes the £30 tarrif a bit hard to swallow.

Although it DOES come with a £350 mobile which I was considering on P&G anyway, and as im saving money with the contract it does make sense... lol, the way my brain works - nobody will ever understand...ever
