http://tweetphoto.com/8218676 is the piccy I took. I know it's a VCR but for that price, might be useful to someone!

Looks to be >50 quid on ebay.

Thanks bought one and have donated it to my local museum

Vcr's are on the way out, but i dare say this has more to do with the Digital Switchover, because as soon as the turn off the analogue signal this will no longer receive channels.
Will still be good to input through scart off another source e.g. Sky / Cable.
Would prefer to get something freeview compatible.
Cannot deny though that is a great price.

I keep going back to my old VCR for daily recording, after trying many expensive HDD recorder with all the problems associated.

The VCR's picture maybe not as good but it is absolutely reliable and never fails.
#9
I have loads of videos I still like to watch and some were never re-issued on DVD. I still use my VCR occasionally and for £1.97 it would be worth it to have a spare I think.
#10
:thinking:good deal but i am looking for a ferguson video star betamax will pay £1.97 no more :whistling:
#11
it's good up until the digital switchover, good for daily recording on sd televisions.

STOP COMPLAINING! ITS £1.97! :)
#12
excellent deal if you want to use it to copy your vhs tapes onto a dvd

Just rang my local Tesco extra and she was extremely to quick to say no we don't stock any VCR's sorry. Hmm.

Also rang another Tesco Extra close by, the largest one in Wales in fact, no sorry we don't stock any VCR's, we haven't had any in in years. Hmmmmmm.
#15
Videos are great if you've got kids - you can pick up tons of kids videos at car boot sales for pennies, and they're a lot more resilient than DVDs! If this was local I'd definitely have picked one up for my son's bedroom.
#16
You won't find one as Ferguson never made Betamax ,Sony and Sanyo were the main ,manufactures of the Betamax machines
#17
I still use my VCR everyday and I use it to record from my Freeview box and my Sky receiver, so even when analogue is switched off I'll still use it with the Freeview and Sky receivers.

I don't record analogue tv from the aerial now anyway.

People seem to think that after the switchover they will also need to get a new tv but just use a sat or Freesat or Freeview box with the old tv.

So why are you even in this thread? I'd like to think anyone looking at a deal for a VHS would be doing so because they were interested... not just to mock. For someone after a VHS, this is a HOT deal...

Great price. Be interesting to know if this is more than one store, though.

If you have any old tapes to transfer to DVD, it's much better to use a new VCR like this than a 2nd hand one off eBay with worn heads.
#21
Holy Hell!! I need one, but my Tesco wont have any. :(

Does this have to be a Tesco Extra, or will your average 24Hour Tescos possibly stock them?

I have tons of WCW Wrestling stuff, NONE of which was or ever will be re-released on DVD, so those saying they dont know why anyone would need a VCR are obviously too wrapped up in the HD world and have no clue about what came before, which is completely ignorant.

last time i was at the council dump in chester they had your pick of working vcrs... 32 inch crt tv's...they guys down there dont even bother with them...they told me they are looking for stuff like B&O stereo sytems ...amps ...mission speakers etc to flog on ebay .....

if any one wants one I'll sell em to you for £1.96:whistling:

This is a good spot , wish they were in out tesco's
Don't need on , but at that price !

I think Videos still have a place , esp as someone said for kids
they can have one in there room and mistreat the tapes , but they still play
and you can get the video films so cheaply ,

Plus on a video you don't have to sit through the forced messages and adverts on a DVD !

Old technology. I've upgraded to a Digital Versatile Disc system. It's awesome. I had to change my telly to a 20" colour one to get the full benefit but it was worth it. I can now watch Godzilla at 4 times the resolution of these out of date tape recorders. The DVD Disc also has a 'special feature', the trailer for the film. It's awesome.

But have some heat n rep for old times sake.

Good call m8.
Leave the VHS for those that know nowt.

:x Ihave just telephoned Tesco Customer services hotline and have neen told that Tescos no longer sell video recorders and there is no record whatsoever of the product in question. I have to say that I got very excited when I saw the ad but now feel let down. I hope this will stop people getting their hopes up.
#33
Wow, I didnt think anywhere still sold VCRs
#34
This will be a very rare store specific, the distribution centres after xmas send out discountinued stock to stores to flog off. Some depots may have had these and sent them to random stores. Our store recieved about 6 cages of old stock to sell off.

Chances of finding one are minimal, our local hasn't had any vhs in for about 6/7 months.
#35
I need one of these as my kids have 100s of VHS tapes - I bought them for 15p from a charity shop to keep them all amused & then my VHS combi machine packed in!
I keep hoping to get hold of another one, but its almost impossible!

Is the correct answer.

Our old VHS is knackered, and I need one at some point to archive some old tapes.

Same reason I still have a tape deck for the hifi - I've got about 15 years-worth of cassettes that I've slowly been converting to mp3.
#37
Hmm. I'll salvage the parts and make a time machine. Then I can go back to an era when people actually wanted a VCR.
#38
Very good deal if you you can find it.

Perfect for watching those great 80s cartoons that you cant get on DVD etc

ie Gobots, Mask, etc (I realise some are out on dvd but not all).
#39
what's this VCR thingy you are talking about?

Lost Symphonies

You can still use the VCR after DSO. Just get two Freeview boxes, put the aerial in one and loop the first box into the second box via RF. Then connect one box to the TV via scart and the other to the video again via scart.
