The Deskstar 7K1000.C hard drive is a 7200 RPM 3.5-inch hard drive that provides an exceptional blend of power efficiency and performance, making it an ideal solution for power friendly consumer and commercial desktop computers. This third-generation 1TB hard drive from Hitachi boosts media transfer rate performance by as much as 13% over its predecessor. The Deskstar 7K1000.C demonstrates Hitachi's ecological leadership with its halogen-free design and power-efficient operation. Both these features helped qualify the drive for the Hitachi EcoTrac classification, which identifies products that minimize environmental impact in the areas of product design, manufacturing, operation and disposal. The ENERGY STAR 5.0 specifications released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are recognized around the world as a way of identifying energy-efficient PCs and other computer equipment. PCs that meet the ENERGY STAR 5.0 criteria are expected to become increasingly popular with both corporations and consumers. Some corporations are choosing to purchase ENERGY STAR PCs as part of their "green" initiatives. The low power profile of the Deskstar 7K1000.C hard drive enables a reduction in overall system power requirements, which helps PC manufacturers achieve ENERGY STAR ratings.

I'm confused, what are you actually getting for that price? Does it come with the 2TB Drive, DVD-RW and 500GB?

2TB is just the maximum support capacity, you get a free 500GB drive and the DVD-RW included.

" Max Supported Capacity2 TB " so is that 2tb total ie 1tb per bay or is it 2tb per bay?

if anyone knows how to get the xbox 360 to see one of these - please do tell!!

A good deal, but I reckon it's probably worth shelling out the extra £55 and getting the same NAS unit from Amazon but with Blue Ray (50GB) instead of DVD and 1TB instead of 500GB.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-N2B1DB2-Blu-ray-Network-Attached/dp/B002LCF2TY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ce_5

Plus, Amazon are reliable and easy to order from.

Either way, a good deal by the OP.

I'd have thought a Bluray burner would make more sense as a backup device. 4.7GB of DVD backup for a 1/2TB disk seems a bit too small. Even 25GB of Bluray is going to take a lot of disks!

Good price for what you are getting though.

Thats still confusing.Do you mean 2TB drives (ie 4TB total) or do you mean the maximum it can take is 2 x 1TBAll descriptions for these damned things are also so vague and left to your interpretation.

It's 2TB max.... LG site doesn't off much in the way of specs.
#15
Good price compared to other retailers but a max of 2tb is pretty poor for a nas.

Cheers dude. I bought the last one! Totally agree about paying a little more and getting 1TB and a Blu-Ray writer.
#19
Good price etc but not for me. I have a 500GB NAS at the moment and need something SUBSTANTIALLY bigger to make the investment worthwhile.

Anyone who doesnt have a NAS, get one. It will change your life.
#20
PLEASE tell me why I would need one of these.

What do you all use them for cos I don't know ANYONE that has got one.

if at home or a small office you have alot of files to share, then this is perfect as it allows anyone on the network to access it, you can plug a printer in too
#23
The same kit is available from Aria.co.uk without the drive for £129.24 if out of stock or you already have drive(s) to use.

I use a similar bit of Kit (A 1.5TB Linkstation Pro) as the repository for all of my media files.

Music, Video and Audiobooks

Then I can stream these to whichever computer or TV I want to.

It means that you have ONE main source of files and every computer and other device can access them.

It's also an easy way to share files (word docs etc) between home users.

Does that help? WM

Its useful, if you have a pc, laptop, consoles and wifi phones/ipads, then you can put all your songs/vids/photos on the NAS drive, so you can access the files from any device, even if your main pc/laptop is off.

Title makes it sound like the 2TB is included, with an extra 500GB hdd free. Could it not be changed to LG N2R1 - NAS server (Built-in DVD Rewriter / 2 TB Capacity)

Does it come with 1tb hard drive & how do you get the £10?
Can you burn HD footage from a camcorder directky onto blu-ray?

this site has some useful info on NAS devices
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-basics/30914-how-to-buy-a-nas-shorter-version

I have a 2TB HDD that my Mobo refuses to see - will this see it? or only 1TB per bay as it sounds?
#32
some sites offer 1.5tb drives with this unit so I would guess its 2x2tb. most nas will state 2tb as they are the some of the higher sizes people buy but most will take higher

but dont take my advise as fact :)
#33
I spoke to LG on the phone and was disappointed to find it is actually 2tb MAX (both drives together) that this potentially good NAS can take. :(

Couldn't the max capacity issue be fixed with a future firmware update? or am I just trying to find any reason to buy this!

I use a piece of software called TwonkyVision on my NAS. The 360 sees it and plays anything from it no problem. Hope this helps :)

i ordered one and will try 2x 1.5tb and let you know

Just in case this helps anyone, I reviewed the BluRay version of this here. It is a very nice device and the UI is extremely nice for configuring it.
