Ok, it's an expensive TV, but it's also the 2017 model and is £300 less than the normal price.

As Currys is the only official distributor for this model you get the full 5 year warranty, which is pretty important on a TV like this I think.

You also get free delivery, installation and recycling of your old TV (though if you're in the market for this I doubt very much your old TV would be something you'd "recycle") which costs £79.99 normally.

cold! If people are going to spend this much money on a TV, then I doubt they need to even be using HUKD to look for any deals since they are clearly minted!

I think its the servants who look on here, then trouser the difference ;)

This site helps them stay minted (angel)

Really, how good do they think they can make an awesome TV at £2000 last years model - vs - £4600 ... Number crunching and slight maybe possible (maybe) colour or lighter pic's just don't add up to the price difference. I'm a fan of LG, but screw you marketing department and operations, below par ...

And also free delivery? Wow! I might get 2!

And as people tell narrow minded others, they are usually 'minted' because they are smart with their money, make informed choices and save money where possible. Not because they never spend it. To not use HUKD because you are 'rich' is a stupid notion.

And then the 2018 model will be out or on the horizon then. What you're essentially talking about is waiting for the current model to get obsoleted, like the 2016 one has been now (hence the .98 pricing and discounts). That's a valid decision of course, but it's more about waiting for something to get discontinued more than it is trying to get a discount off the current gen product.

Older, discontinued stuff gets price slashed when the new one becomes available - this is not really a revelation.

But it is a good reason for voting cold, if you can save hundreds or thousands by buying a year behind for very little difference in technology.

You could save even more (tens of thousands) by buying a used car, so should all the new car deals go cold too?

No, because a new car will last twice as long as one that's tens of thousand cheaper so you'll end up spending a similar amount per year. The differences here are much, much smaller.

Care to back that up? It's pure speculation.

But if you want to use your analogy, then a next gen car vs. a new last gen pre-reg one.

I've been keeping an eye on OLED's over the years and there prices seem to gradually drift down as opposed to a huge plunge when they are discontinued. For that reason, even waiting as little as 3 months will mean a better deal. Its just not worth paying the release day price.

If you're 'smart' with your money you wouldn't buy this TV for 5 grand in the first place!

Buying a second hand car would be analogous with buying a second hand TV. In this case the analogy would be buying the previous model of a car, which unsurprisingly is cheaper too.

Why stop at one non analogy? You could buy an inferior brand and save even more. You could buy one off a dodgy bloke in the pub and save even more.

I was once visiting a friend and his brother saw the neighbours putting an old TV out for rubbish collection. He brazenly walked out and returned with it and was delighted to find that he got sound out of it. That was cheaper too.

I was agreeing with the same as the OP had already said, it's not a revelation that waiting for the previous model is going to be cheaper. It wasn't even my analogy - and it was a totally moot point if I wanted that model, right now and there was a discount to be had; the people who have the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S8 now aren't going to want it as much when next year's model launches, but they will be cheaper...

It wasn't anyone's analogy given it wasn't analogous (as I said).

It's a minor point but these haven't just been released, they've been around for at least 2 months if not more, hence why they're being discounted now.

So you're right, except that now is the better deal.
