LG Optimus 2X P990 Expansys for £234.99

As the world's first dual core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X sets a new benchmark in performance. The NVIDIA 1GHz Tegra2 dual core processor makes everything, from navigating the Android operating system to browsing the web and application multitasking, work with impressive speed and virtually no lag. Everything underneath your fingers is fast and smooth, no matter how hard you push the Optimus 2X.

Utilising the two 1GHz processor cores and its 8 megapixel camera the LG Optimus 2X can record and playback video in full 1080p HD, and the HDMI socket lets you show off your photos and videos on your HD TV. The Optimus 2X has a 4 inch touchscreen, with 800 x 480 resolution and the NOVA technology from LG that offers excellent contrast with deep blacks and strong whites.

I Know its Expansys and not as good as the Amazon deal but still a brilliant price for a excellant phone

Its an excellent phone. The equal of any.
Expansys doesn't have a good rep though. Maybe better to wait and see if Amazon do it again for £200 (as they do for a VERY brief time now and again)

Expansys box shift sourcing phones every day so are far more dependent on others for good rep.

I've used them for years without any problems whatsoever.
#3
It compares pretty well to the HTC Evo 3D that Asda are selling for £250, a bit smaller, thinner and lighter with nearly 8x more storage, so probably a decent deal.

True, you can only speak as you find. Ive just seen all too many bad stories about Expansys, admittedly not of my own experience, but people do tend to go by experiences of others with a company.

I came across this at Expansys several days ago. Never used the company. Shame it's not at Amazon at the same price or lower as would order without hesitation, but am still hesitating. Looked on Amazon.de but it isn't there either. Remember pay by credit card then if something does go horribly wrong with the buying experience or with the product and the retailer is unhelpful you can take it up with your credit card company.

The '15PAYPAL' discount code doesn't work with this product. With Quidco you can get 5% cashback.

Can't see this phone cheaper anywhere else.

This is an interesting comparison review. Kind of surprised when the guy says that the screen for both of the phones is made by LG :

I got mine from expansys 5 months ago. Turned up when promised and I love the phone. No idea whether its better than an iphone, though my son thinks it looks better than his iphone3.

Well I bought a slimline external DVD drive from Expansys, arrived today. Never bought anything from them before and tempted getting the LG Optimus from them as they are currently the cheapest.

Can't fault the ordering process, quick delivery too. DVD drive is the right one, only problem is that it's not the exact model spec as advertised on their website. They have sent me a model which doesn't have a stand for vertical positioning of the drive. It could be they've been sent an incorrect batch, but it still should have been picked up by someone at their end as now I have to return it.

Will have a chance to test what their customer service is like for returns.

If this phone re-appears on Amazon then I'd rather get it from there.

Trying to return the DVD drive I was sent. Expansys is from what I can see another 'Pixmania' type of company, it's roots I'm guessing from the returns procedure are French.

Returns is too faffy. They arrange a courier - and I have to wait for the courier to call me. Best thing is my order was send 1st class Royal Mail from the UK but my returned item is being sent to Montpelier in France ! Logistically crazy, especially for an item costing £20 !

I have this phone, and I can't say I'm impressed. On stock ROM it was diabolical, with random shutdowns, poor call quality, rubbish battery life and laggy interface after using it for a few days. Add to that the **** customer service from LG, including releasing Gingerbread 9 months later than promised. Most of the problems have been solved with custom ROMs, but my next phone won't be an LG for certain.
#13
Would anyone reccomend this over the Evo 3D or suggest a similarly priced alternative to either?

My vote is for Evo 3D.
Faster CPU, more RAM, 3D Camera, Larger and denser screen.
And HTC confirmed ICS upgrade (citation needed).

Well I really do not see a reason going for 2X, probably for larger internal memory ?

Tempted to try something else, but scared off by tales of bricking the phone.

i have it for 2 months now, and i love it, would love to have q2 version (full hardware keyboard) but there is no way to find it anyway

superb quality, and perfectly working AFTER you tune software a bit (rooting needed) as it is its weak side, but when you do remove all unnecessary stuff it works perfectly

once you remove all bloatware it actually is way better than iphone in my opinion, but if you want to use it out of the box you most likely WILL BE DISAPPOINTED

Lol. User suspended for being an IPhone owner.

I have one, paid £200 for it from Amazon and am very happy with it (now I have a custom rom on it).

However, if I was looking to buy a phone now I think I would be more inlcined to go for the Evo 3D at Asda for £229 than I would for the O2X from Expansys at £234.

What is the best custom rom for this at the moment?
#26
For anyone who is uncertain about purchasing this phone, I bought it from Amazon a couple of months ago when they had it for £199.

I'll admit the stock ROM is total carp, but once rooted and running on CyanogenMod 7.1, it's a whole different animal. And the battery life is excellent with JuiceDefender running. Hands down the best/fastest phone I've owned thus far.

Put it this way, don't buy an LG phone if you expect LG to provide anything resembling stable/timely software updates. However, if you're happy to tinker with custom ROMs, then these phones are as good as it gets for the money. :{
#27
Expansys are a poor firm, terrible customer service, won't be using them again.

They cancelled an order without any explanation or contact, but took the cash anyways. Had to ring up a couple times for a refund after querying where the order was after a week of nothing, and never got any form of apology through the process.

I'd say CyanogenMod 7.1, unless anyone else can offer a better solution! ;)

Just CM7.1 Stable. Not into the nightlies as I value my stability (and sanity).

Do you have a link for that please?

BTW, I have never had any issues with Temaseks Kang, it is stable.

You're spot on! This phone at stock is IME terrible, wouldnt have enjoyed using it at all but i knew that before i bought it (mine works out £168 for the phone, £10 line rental and that was bought in june! So was out before SGS2 and sensation :P). Backlight bleed is entirely pot luck, please dont say a product is bad because of this as its up to you to take it back and complain, these are manufacturing variances! The iphone has had backlight bleed as well as dye on the screen, alot of users have a faultless backlight, any phone with a backlight will have the potential for backlight bleed, me personally i have a bit on the top left but i was happy with that it isnt annoying and im not a media person(cant stand on phones, to small personally...) so black images isnt often, i.e not enough for me to warrant a replacement.

Now back onto the custom rom scene, seriously grab a custom ROM as it adds SO much to the experience, fast fluid and reliable on majority of roms... Modaco(Paul O'Brien) makes solid stock based roms, Cyanogen is another amazing rom but that is a whole different experience as its not any carriers specific design(made by the developers, using source code... excellent stuff!), its fast and reliable along with the fact its now supporting FM radio and AD2P(or whatever it is... music streaming), CM7 is gingerbread but as ICS is now out its moved onto CM9, updates still happen which is why Temaseks Kangs are excellent as they combine all these fixes/updates as its no longer being given out.

CM9 has actually be ported to the O2x now, its working for the most part... ive been trying it for the sake of it really was a bit bored, considering its an alpha port so far its pretty solid, browser is fast all the tasks i want todo are quick and havent crashed yet, battery life is OK at the minute getting just over 2 days on it, very good for an alpha! I tend to get 2 days, some roms have given me 3 days but it just depends :).

Overall, LG support = ****, never expected them to be this bad
Phones hardware = Solid, cant fault it and RAM has never been an issue
Value for money = Excellent, the best if you are looking at custom roms however if looking for a stock experience, ignore... albeit the GB update has improved things alot, something to try instore?

LG have been picking up their game though, been 2 new ROMs in a month with significant patches and ICS is due to be released in Q2, hopefully in a month or two, this is the deciding factor as if LG can stick to that then i will forgive them :). Worst part is Nvidia are being idiots and holding everything back by released useless code and nothing that can help third party developers so it takes alot of time to get anything done on Tegra2, if Nvidia opened it up then we would have ICS fully implemented within weeks id reckon!.
#34
Like Hudson92 said, it's a good phone hardware wise let down by very poor initial software releases. THe last LG rom V20m or o were actually quite good and stable and solved all the issues. However the custom rom is where its at and Modaco, Gueste or CyanogenMod 7 are the best roms in my opinion.

Rooting the phone is relatively simple and bricking it is virtually impossible I've found and returning to stock is just as easy with guides availabe on Modaco and XDA. The other great thing is LG have confirmed that ICS will be coming to this phone and there is already a fairly stable Alpha release of CM9 (ICS) available to play with in the meantime.
#35
Yea Gueste is good too. :)
#36
EVO 3D was a much hotter deal.
This phone has only 512 MB RAM, and reviews wrote that it has a buggy software.
On a positive note: will get ICS

Why would anyone possibly choose this over the HTC Evo 3D?

Evo 3D has double the RAM, double the HSDPA speed, a slightly bigger screen, a 1.2ghz dual core(as apposed to the 1ghz) its also currently on android 2.3 planned to upgrade to 4.X and most imporatantly to most... A BIGGER BATTERY.

The only pros this has over the 3D are the 8mp camera and 8gb storage, remember though the Evo has a 3D camera and memory is as easy as a memory stick ;)
suspended#39
Bigger screen isnt a pro nor a con, 4.0 is easier to fit in the hand :). Falling for the X amount of ghz marketing :D, the tegra chip is more powerful than the chip in the evo, if you really want more power you can overclock the T2 to 1.5ghz no problems!. Ram isnt an issue, never ran out of ram on my o2x :).

The O2x is also planned to be upgraded in Q2... the evo is a few months after march if i remember rightly.

However if you want a HTC or a 3d phone then yeah it would be silly to the take the O2x, they both are solid choices. For a stock experience the HTC wins mind!
