Ordered one as seems a good price for what you get specs-wise. I too have read bad things about LG's implementation of Android but most of the reviews I've seen of this phone recommend it. See here:

      http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/lg-optimus-4x-hd-1088582/review

      http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/smartphones/1294645/lg-optimus-4x-hd

      http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/5938/lg-optimus-4x-hd-review

The camera, battery life and the general design of the phone (boring?) seem to be the common niggles but, otherwise, it seems to score a constant 4/5 in most reviews. There's even a planned Jelly Bean release for early next year. Having been the previous owner of both Motorola and HTC smartphones, however, I won't hold my breath until I actually see it!

i heard it offered more bang for your buck than the one x or the s3. I would consider this next year when i come to think about replacing my evo3d

Its a shame there are no 3rd party ROMs available for this (yet) as the spec is great.

Just for information, I bought an LG optimus 7, one of the first win7 handsets from Amazon Germany. LG UK said that I'd have to get service from their Germany arm, and gave a lots of grief. Wouldn't. Be tempted to deal with them again, but they were very polite.

I dunno, I have an optimus 7, had it 10 months now. It's been booted around something awful, as all my phones do. It's still going strong.

My Galaxy s2 lasted 3 weeks under the same conditions.

Only phone I've had that was better built is the HTC hero.

Yeah my speaker went after 6 months, and now its gone 2 months getting fixed, still haven't got it back, madness

like some others i still have my lg optimus 2x and as tempting as this is for bang for your buck i won't be buying lg again soon. You get great hardware and i still think the optimus 2x could have been great in its day but they screwed the software up badly and have made a real hash of fixing it, we are still stuck on gingerbread while android has moved forward to jellybean and the update to ice cream sandwhich has been promised and delayed for over 6 months now, even with developers help it's just never reached its potential. beyond this i've had countless problems with my phone dropping signal and wifi and just not sorting itself out no matter what rom i use. Doesn't help they announced the optimus g yesterday so dont think they will focus on this for very long once that's released

It's a great phone, works well, just a few things that need polish, eg: slightly choppy performance and camera focus issues. Unfortunately as LG aren't allowing access to the bootloader you're relying on them fixing many of the problems, as opposed to the talented devs over at XDA. And LG support is barely existent when it comes to their phones.

Having gone from the Galaxy S to the Galaxy Nexus - two very heavily supported devices over on the XDA forums - I'm surprised at how happy I am with this phone, considering there is so little support for it.

correction - locked bootloader combined with lg's poor updates make that cold

it is great phone IF you are computer geek
i have 2x and it is almost unusable OOTB, but once you root, flash some customized rom and tweak it a bit it actually is a brilliant phone for the money

that said lg announced ICS for 2x for second quarter of 2012 and they still didn't released it (except for su660 which is korean version of 2x with different hardware) so don't count that you will be happy with those phones if you don't know what baseband, ril, rooting or cwm is...

This looks like an excellent piece of hardware. LG's software updates, or lack of them, will always stop me getting one of their phones.

It is a tough market though. Do you have a big group of guys working on Android development which aren't really revenue generating or do you focus on getting the latest hardware out into the market which does directly impact the bottom line. LG have clearly gone down the latter route whereas I think there has to be a balance. Android is such a fast past OS, too fast paced for some, that you cannot ignore the fact that phones released 3-6 months ago will require plenty of support going forward. Neglecting existing customers is a risky business.

Note, I've got a Galaxy S2. Excellent phone and it has received decent software updates so far. If it gets Jelly Bean I might not need to get another phone for another 6-12 months - I'll probably skip the S3. As to whether Samsung have the balance right is down to which stakeholder group you are in.

I wonder how much the new Optimus G will cost. That phone looks amazing (software and performance wise), and I may be tempted to get it, if it is sensibly priced.

I brought this phone back in July. I am really impressed with it after switching from my Samsung Galaxy S2. The device has a really nice feeling in the hand and the display is exceptional.

As for the lack of support, LG have released 3 updates to the phone thus far resolving issues with the video camera and the erratic focusing which now works a treat. The handset has remained stable and extremely fast. Changes to brightness and tweaks to notification icons. And updates to the processor to increase battery life and reduce heat, so in my eyes LG are listening to the new users because the variants are more unified helping in the support of the handsets.

My other half had the LG Optimus 2X and was cursing me for getting the 4X but after playing with my phone decided they wanted one as well.

I know LG have been knocked for the slow updates but at the moment I have a phone that really rocks at everything I throw at it and if I put it in battery saving mode I've had just under 3 days from a single charge. Speaking of charging my Samsung Galaxy S2 use to take 5 hours to get to 100% (not sure if anyone else had a slow charging one), however the LG cracks along and is fully charged in a little over an hour which is something I can't be happier about.

Great price for what I think is an exceptional phone and one I have no problem recommending (even for an LG).
