LG Optimus GT540.

Free on Pay Monthly

£59.99 on Pay & Go

Android OS
3" touchscreen
3 Megapixel camera
2GB memory card included

I have ordered one of these since they recently came down in price from £79.99 to £59.99.
This is an ONLINE ONLY deal that I am aware of. I checked the o2 shops and they didn't have one for this price.

I think you may also be able to get cashback through Quidco but I haven't used it myself.

      Voted hot,

Just wondering if there is any point buying this purely to use for TomTom if I can get it on there, assume it has built in reciever but would I need Internet on my contract too?

You can't get TomTom for Android ;-)

OSF is twice the phone this is...

This phone also has a Resistive NOT capacitive screen

Thats this out the equation then.
Wish my OSF had a resistive screen....resistive to my 4 yo dropping it on marble kitchen tiles.
So any ideas for a cheap and cheerful replacement?

depends how much you want to spend - samsung galaxy w is a decent mid range phone and not too much on virgin mobile if you are a virginmedia customer and a low mobile user

eg £12.99/month 100 mins, 500 textx, 500 mb data, 3000 mins to other virgin mobile users

or £179.99 on PAYG with 3 + tariff cost

take off the shattered screen carefully, watch youtube vidz, and if the main display underneath is not broken fix it:

sell it on ebay or gumtree & get this:

and put gingerbread or (when ready) ice cream sandwich rom on it from xda/cyanogenmod

this LG is only 3 inches

Seriously bad phone and speak from experience. Constant crashing and locking up.

Might try the repair option as it still works perfectly it just looks crap with the cracks on the screen-I have just over an hour on the bus each way for work and catch up on tv and watch films on it and its really starting to get on my nerves.

Well you dont want one of these then, I dropped mine in 2010 within 3 weeks of owning it, screen was ruined

Got one of these a couple of weeks back. It's pretty bloody slow, but its not too shabby for the price. Camera is awful though, no flash and images look very lifeless and washed out unless taken in very bright surroundings.

I had this phone, kept locking up and gets very slow after 6 months... avoid!

I put up with this phone for about 6 months. Would not recommend spending £59.99 on it.

DON'T DO IT. It's still on Android 1.something i think. My fiancee tried to update it a year ago when this came out> http://www.lgblog.co.uk/2010/11/upgrade-your-lg-optimus-gt540-to-android-2-1/. It had so many problems they took it down "temporarily" and it hasn't been released since. This was over a YEAR ago. Notice the 700+ comments on the blog with people complaining.

Much better phones for the price

Have to say my daughters GT540 has been great since we got it. Upgraded it to 2.1 pretty much right away, but installed Swiftdroid/Cyanogen almost right after that. Not the greatest phone for sure, but had no real problems with it* and it does everything my daughter wants and more, including games, GPS, quick camera functions etc.

Having played with the OSF, I would agree that it is better; feels faster and of course the capacitive screen, but if the LG GT540 is cheaper at the time ...

*Only problems we've had are a lack of memory (Apps2SD sorted that), and that my daughter has continually dropped it/mishandled it; it now requires a new screen which will be about £13 on ebay.

OK as a cheap giffgaff phone?

The OSF isn't the best phone in its price range anymore

(Live with Walkman / Xperia Pro / Xperia Play or Acer Liquid Metal - depending on what you want and price range). Guess the Defy is in that if you can get one also.

It was good a year ago but it isn't now (And the OSF2 / Vivacity / Skate are pretty rubbish also).
Only decent ZTE ones are the Softbank 008Z and Softbank 009Z but you cannot get them outside Japan
      he6rt6gr6m
Resistive screen means slight pressure must be applied.

OS is 1.6, upgradeable to 2.1 officially. I use a CyanogenMod 2.3.7 ROM.

It's not a fantastic phone, but does the job, and is definitely a great entry-level Android phone, especially at this price.
