similar deal to the panasonic viera posted,

same price but better tv in my opinion, mainly down to the far superior 600Hz refresh rate when up against the panasonics 100Hz (which is as too low in my opinion for a 50 inch)

I actually own this set so i can personally vouch for a high quality TV here

some blurb copied from john lewis

The exceptional LG 50PS3000 arrives in a high gloss black finish and produces fantastic images thanks to its 1080p Full HD ready resolution.
The Dual XD Engine processor optimises the picture quality from digital and analogue TV, and from anything else games consoles, camcorders, etc. that you have plugged into the external inputs.

600Hz technology provides clear images without any flickering or instability. And with an ultra fast response rate, this means that dynamic scenes are more realistic and movement is more natural.

An intelligent sensor works out when lighting conditions in the room change, altering the picture settings automatically. This provides a more enjoyable viewing experience and also uses less power, saving you money.

24p Real Cinema ensures you enjoy a judder-free film-like image just as the director intended, when connected to compatible Blu-ray or DVD players.

Youll enjoy the 50PS3000s audio performance even though you wont be able to tell where its coming from! Its all thanks to the invisible integral speakers. Theyre embedded in strategic spots around and underneath the front bezel, increasing the sweet spot to give a wider and richer sound field.

While watching movies via your DVD player, clever Clear Voice 2 technology adjusts the sound balance to emphasise dialogue and reduce background noise.

The USB 2.0 feature allows you to connect a USB flash memory device to the TV in order to play audio (MP3 files and display your favourite JPEG images. Includes a table top stand.

This television is high definition ready which means it has the ability to display high definition signals with the addition of a separate HD receiver. HD broadcasts are at a much higher resolution than regular analogue or digital broadcasts and have greatly enhanced picture quality. The level of detail is astonishing with clearer, sharper and more vibrant images.

Full HD 1080p
1080p is the purest form of high definition that a television can display. This leads to a smoother, more film-like image, which will satisfy sports and movie lovers alike. With a 1080p signal, the information that makes up an image is displayed progressively or all at once, rather than in an interlaced fashion.

Someone else confusing/comparing 600hz SUB FIELD to 100hz....

600hz IS 100HZ divided up into 6 segments! it's a marketing ploy!

And this TV isn't anything special... the samsung at currys is still better..

Which Samsung ??

http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/505752?source_id=aw&camp_id=HotUKDeals

And just to clarify, this tv DOES have 600hz subfield, its just not advertised as this, as it is still 100hz, just like all the rest

Poor sound quality and worse reevoo rating though the Samsung.
#5
the sound quality is very good ????

it goes up to 100 - which isn't exactly deafening as it's only 20w but it's still crystal clear clarity

maybe that's been judged on a non HD sound source?? cos mine is a very very good sounding telly imo

Yeah, thats fair enough... but when comparing tv's noone really takes sound into account, if you spend money on a 50" tv, you ought to have some surround setup ideally...

and the extra 100 quid your paying for this, you can buy a 5.1 surround kit lol

These new wave of up and coming tv's , they are getting slimmer and slimmer, so sound is going to be getting worse than this! or they will be suplied with external wall mountable speakers.... which you end up paying for anyway...

But, you definately do, it also says that the TV doesn't have a widescreen option :-D

The description is wrong.. check samsung website for real specs

i think looking at the samsung deal I couldn't say the extra £100 would be well spent on the LG, only really the 5 year warranty

and the delivery time of 28 days wouldn't go down well if i was to lazy to go to a store :D

I was all set to buy a 50 inch, till I found out how much power they suck up.
Like having a 1 bar heater on all the time.

this LG is way better than most Samsung lcd tv's, I upgraded from a Samsung 40" to this 50" plasma and the picture quality is way way better than any lcd panel tv.

Have a look at this website

If you are interested in how much energy certain products use (as I am) then it makes interesting reading.

I have no idea how often it is updated though :(

Lucky Goldstar in your living room instead of Panasonic ?
#17
I bought the Samsung from Curry's and it DEFINITELY includes the stand. Both TVs are 100Hz with 600Hz Sub-field drive. It seems that the LG is technically a slightly superior TV - USB port (for MP3 & JPEG), slighty smaller bezel, ~3kg lighter and an extra SCART socket. I haven't compared the 2 side by side though so can't offer an opinion on the comparative picture quality. Assmuming the pictures are comparable I'd say the LG is worth the extra £100 partly for the superior features mentioned above but mostly for the 5yr JL warranty.

The USB port can also do DivX with a simple alteration in the Service Menu

I have had this set for about 6 months now and am very happy with it.

how do you think brands get their reputation ? from years of building good, indifferent or bad products.

I actually don't think Skodas are bad cars, after all they are engineered by that poorly thought of company that owns Audi, VW etc...

think before you start talking sh*te

I bought one of these a few months back at the same time as a friend bought the bennets samsung. Comparing the two the LG looks great and the picture and sounds is far better and glad that I spent the extra £100 well worth it.

Panasonic many reviews saying hit and miss on recent tvs. No opinion on them but frm the specs not as good as this LG.

Final words, owning this telly have to say am well happy :santa:

Found the iPoints website is offering John Lewis rewards! 2 points per £1, ie around £4.60 if used towards various £10 store vouchers (3000 points). Owts better than nowt. Though personally I would phone local JL store and order there so you have the neverknowinglyundersold protection for a month (from memory).

PS: Also found Pigsback offering equivalent of 1.3% points :)
