Who are Sport-E ?

I've never heard of them but their website looks to be in the same format as some catalogue outlets like Kays etc .

DO NOT BUY THIS

It only has an analogue tuner , it will be obsolete within 12 months if it isn't obsolete already . .

No freeview tuner - how bizarre!

Why will it be obsolete? Analogue TV will be here for a few years yet and you can plug your Sky/NTL box into it anyway. Still odd without a freeview tuner though although a big plus is DIVX compatibility.

Manual here:-

Type RH266 into model no.

Exactly, don't know what they're moaning about. You can record from scart.

It will be obsolete because once the analogue is switched off try recording onto it . It would be a wiser to move to buy one with a digital tuner already built in future proofing your new purchase . Not everyone has a Skybox so that feature of it is unuseable for those people .

Just take a look at your copying options , it is loaded with copyright protection , a very poor buy indeed with regards to what is available for a bit more money .

What's wrong with that. Just means you can make dvd-movies from hard disk that's all. You can still record from scart. I hear DVD-T is going to become obsolete anyway.

Analogue is around for a few more years! most electronics only have a life of around 3-4 years anyway in my experience before one upgrades so at this price its a good deal IMHO.

Where is the flexibility then in only 1 copying option ?

If I was buying an all singing all dancing unit for total flexibility it wouldn't be this one .

DVD-T going to become obsolete ! :whistling: :giggle:

You can only make VCD movies , not DVD from HDD .

How many DVD-HDD recorders out there in the sub-£200 (note I didn't say sub £100) market support making divx movies?

DVB-H?

You can make DVD from HDD.

Correction , you can't even make VCD

The whole idea of DVD-HDD recorders is flexibility , this is not flexible at all . There is so much restriction on the copying options that it is totally useless .

How can you make DVD from HDD on this then ?

In what way would you copy the HDD material onto disc ?

This doesn't support DIVX copying

Actually, yes, it is not a joke. Just like in DVB-S scene they developed DVB-S2 standard, the DVB-T2 is now emerged. However, just like in satellites, it'll take some significant time to become a mainstream and therefore it would coexist with DVB-T for several years.
Given the lifespan of consumer devices these days, I think it is safe to buy recorder with either analog or DVB-T tuner. Even the hyped digital switchover is only to be finalised in 2012...

You can copy a Divx (mind you it's quite restrictive on what specific types of divx you can copy) to the hdd.

Looks like DVB-H is a superset of DVB-T.

Read the manual posted above?

I have a LG DVD recorder RH7500 and the biggest complaint I have is that if you edit a recording on the HDD, you cannot do a fast copy. Even if you join up a couple of titles or do little editing, you cannot do fast copy. Its extremely annoying and I wouldnt have bought it, had I known this. I would recommend that this should be checked before buying. Overall, its a noisy machine and doesnt perform very well after 1.5 years now. . . not impressed ! Its extremely cheap though !
#19
Although i didn't realise it didn't have a digital tuner when i posted, it is still the cheapest price by far that i have seen for this DVD/PVR.

Yes , downloaded from the site . In the moving / copying section it it states the restrictions , go to page 6 .

Don't take it personally Kat! If it wasn't pointed out, someone could have bought it thinking it was digital. I doubt there are many that dont.

That is why I said don't buy it . Anyone who isn't technically minded will think this has a digital tuner because it has modern day HDD / DVD recording .

I'm glad you mentioned finalised. Some transmitters are changing far sooner than that. Some places are 2007, though the main switchover starts in 2008.
"Some places" are not the whole country :) For example, for me (even if I am located in Midlands) the only free digital option is satellite.
I am not going to argue about "analogue vs digital" but rather want to point out that arguments like "digital is here, analogue is obsolete" aren't true for most UK locations.

Personally I wouldnt touch this recorder purely because of no Digital and EPG. True, you might have couple of years life left in it via analogue, but why would you want to do that? Digital is far better than analogue and I would ask if there is anyone who would watch analogue over digital if their TV has both. I know I certainly wouldn't.

Just connect a £20 freeview box via one of the scarts.

Yes exactly, this is a good deal.

Not for me as it dosent have firewire which is a letdown.

Anyone buy one? Any comments on build / quality etc?

Bought one and have to say one of the best value buys I've ever made. Recordings are perfect, machine is quiet and menus are very intuitive. Recommended.

I just ordered one. Amazing buy. I have an RH7500 which I paid £249 for at Comet a couple of years ago. Great machine, but the DVD laser went kapput a few weeks ago. So it would have cost me around £80 to get fixed, which I was going to do this week strangely enough. I see this and figure I am saving money, ie. £6 petrol for two rtn trips to the authorized LG dealer in Braintree, plus a repair bill of around £80. 6% quidco makes it about evens.
I can easily sell my old unit as a HDD recorder alone for £30, so it's all profit I figure :)
As far as the digital tuner is concerned, that is horse spit. My 7500 was connected to Sky+ via scart. I could record to Sky+'s HDD, then transfer to the LG's HDD or direct to DVD. Alternatively, I could simply record straight to the LG thru AV. Another bonus is that the LG HDDs are easily upgradable :)

PS, I looked everywhere for a promo code, and that one gets posted after my order :(
#31
Ordered! £83 is a bargain. Damit, forgot to put it through Quidco :(
#32
Thanks for this.:)

Don`t know why people are moaning ideal for cable. Well done good find. Half the price of the other vendors if you google it
#34
Some peoples mission in life is to moan this is a real bargain digital or not,Cheapest iv'e found it is £147 just a shame it doesn't do ram discs as i have two recorders that do and swap discs betwen them a lot.
#35
Bought one anyway.
#36
Biggest problem I've had with HDD recorders is the almighty noise the fan in them makes. It would be great if those theat have bought it would comment on how noisy this one is or, hopefully, is not.

Can you please confirm if you can cut out ads, join clips, etc on the HDD and still do a fast copy of the edited video to DVD? I'll replace my LG 7500 with this if it can. Thanks !!

yes to all the above.

Seems to have been removed from website. I wonder if it was a price mistake as they have the LG DR275 at the same £87 price, a lower spec version without the HDD. I ordered mine for £82.95 with a further £4.98 back from Quidco!
