Phones4U have started their weekend offers early, with a brilliant offer on the LG KE970 SHINE!

Phones4U have the LG Shine KE970 (clearance) on their website on a great Vodafone tarriff with 12 months free line rental on a 12 month contract (after cashback). So, for £0 (after cashback) you get the clearance LG Shine KE970 (for FREE!), 12 months free line rental, 500 any-time minutes per month which can be used to call any UK mobile or landline and 500 text messages per month too on Vodafone Anytime 40!!

Clearance usually means reconditioned or at least ones people returned during the cooling off period but they are still covered by normal guarantee and in prestine condition. A small comprimise for such a great phone on this offer!

The LG KE970 Shine is a stunning, metal slider phone with a 2.2 inch display that doubles as a mirror when not in use. It has a 2 megapixel camera with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens that helps ensure perfect results, every time. Photos have a resolution of up to 1600x1200 pixels and the camera has autofocus, flash, zoom, continuous shoot and video record/playback. There's 70MB of internal memory and should you need more it can be expanded using a standard MicroSD memory card. The multi-function scroll wheel makes navigation of menus easy. Other features include a good MP3 player, web browser, stereo Bluetooth and flight mode.

This offer works by cashback which you claim from Phones4U at four specified intervals during the contract, with a generous 60 days to send in your claim. If you wish you can purchase via QuidCo.com who will give you a whopping £50 in extra cashback, meaning that you are making a PROFIT of £50 on the whole thing!! Remember to cancel the insurance if you don't want it as it's quite expensive at £9.99 per month! As usual, send claims recorded/special delivery as soon as you get the bill and you'll be fine. Phones4U are a reputable high street retailer who are reliable for cashback.

How would you rate this compared to the Samsund D900i that was on last week?
#6
Not too different really, this is probably better built as it's mainly metal.

Autofocus will provide good photographs and I prefer the style of this phone personally.

Hmm..
Why does it say "Redeemed via a SINGLE £480 cheque back"?
Does that mean you only need to send in ONE claim?
Or that you still have to send in four claims/bills at specific intervals, and they will only send you a single £480 cheque after you fulfill all the claims? I.e. if you miss any claim, you lose £480 straight, instead of, say, just one cheque of £120.

Anyone knows anything about this?

I'd say you're right with the latter, the full £480 at risk!

Yeah, all of the phone companies do this now on their 12 months free deals. You just have to not forget. There's tip for this here:

12 Months FREE
Send your 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th monthly bills within 60 days of the date stated on the relevant airtime bill, to us and we will credit you by cheque with £48 (month 6), £96 (month 8), £144 (month 10) and £192 (month 12).

This will save you £480.00 over the duration of the contract. In effect this means that your average line rental per month over a 12 month period is £0.00 per month.

Please note: the above calculations are based on the basic line rental of the tariff and do not include itemised billing.

Sorry to ask a "dumb" question but as I have a work mobile I've never looked into buying a phone before :)

If you get all the following with such deals :

FREE LG 'Shine' KE970 - Clearance
12 Months FREE
12 month contract
500 minutes a month
500 texts a month
FREE Delivery

and you do cashback correctly is everything really "free" - if so how come these deals are done (whats in it for provider?) and why does everyone not go for them? I've no doubt this is discussed elsewhere and sorry to jump onto this thread but I'm really interested?

They base their profits on the fact that some people will either forget to claim or claim incorrectly and therefore not get it for free. The phone retailer gets a cut from the network provider. So you're paying vodafone £480 for the year, vodafone pay phones4u £400 for example. (not sure how accurate that figure is!) So Vodafone get £80 for providing the service for the year which easily covers their costs (there is obviously a large expense on setting up a network but each new customer doesn't cost them alot extra). Therefore Phones4u only need 1 in 5 people to claim incorrectly to start making a profit. Obviously these could be lost leader deals which basically advertise Phones4u, people take out other contracts where Phones4u make their real money!

There are a great number of deals available at the moment as all the networks (vodafone in particular) are eager to sign as many new customers as quickly as possible to please their investors. Same reason as to why there are so many free sims available at the moment. Each one given out counts as a new customer even though they might all be going to the same person!

Will P4U be offering any other weekend-only 12 month free phones in the near future?

I won't touch this. My life is quite complicated enough without having to set up an admin system to send in bills to a phone provider that will be looking for some infringement of the small print in order to avoid paying me. Either that, or they will go bust, leaving me with a £40 a month contract with Vodafone and no cash-back.

Your choice, if you prefer to pay for line rental or pay for your phone and pay for your calls then that's your choice! Personally I've been getting all of the above free for a long time now!!!

I'd suggest that they will offer another next weekend. This is an exceptionally nice handset though!!

I totally agree with you. :) I've been doing these deals for at leat 6 years now thanks to various companies. Never really had major problems and always got my cashback by staying organised.

At the end of the day, if you're going for a phone contract ANYWAY then you may as well look at a cashback deal!! :-D
