is lovefilm on this?

what wifi adapters would be compatible with this? would be a shame if you have to shell out another 30 40 odd quid for an LG wifi adapter or something like that, thats what panasonic made us do with our smart TV anyway...

Had one when £60 earlier in year and returned it next day. Sluggish, none responsive and a waste. If it can be hacked to install XBMC then it's a bargain!!

That's for the US. For the UK version all I can find on their site is this:

Not really.
1. Amount of "geek" you need to set it up to work fully. Not everyone is comfortable with messing around to get things working from command line - like the overscan options to get it to fill a display by default (at least on Raspian I tried). This is buy it in Tesco and plug it in.
2. It's more expensive - Power, remote control unit and receiver using USB I guess. has no WIFI like this device appears to list (not 100% on that if its a dongle extra as it says "capable" in one place but in the spec sheets lists the A/B/G/N capability. Plus a SD card of some variety - all required to get it to the same functionality as this device.

True the Pi is way more flexible overall, I would agree with that much

How does this compare to a WDTV Live Streaming Media Player?
2 Likes #21
I have one, Can seem sluggish at times, Lovefilm is great on it. Has inbuilt wifi *ST600* so I have mine in bedroom. Plays almost everything I have thrown at it so far. The Plex side is not finished.

I have a WHS box with plex running and whilst I can see the files with background/box/fan art and meta info, the box will not play them, but this may be my setup only.

It can also see channels from my DVBLink setup for satellite multiroom, however again it cannot play them.

I remember reading somewhere about a beta firmware update that had addressed some issues re streaming so it may be fixed now.
#22
buy one of these, and install plex media server on your pc at home. you can then stream practically any file type to the box from your pc. it has full metadata and looks sexy as hell. worth £25 all day long.

Anyone else found this locally?

Official website lists MKV and DTS support - this would be a no brainer for me as I'm currently having to re-encode all my MKVs just to watch them on my LG tv

No experience of this exact device, but the LG Blu-ray player I have looks to have similar gubbins (formats, streaming support) and it plays MKVs. Other sites that list this STB say it supports MKV too. (and at £120 aswell!)

So can anyone confirm that this works with Netflix in the UK? Netflix use a different system between the US and Europe so many devices that work in the US, don't work here.

"VoD offerings comprise YouTube, BBC iPlayer and rentable movies from Acetrax and you can browse photos on Picasa and listen to internet radio via Vtuner."

If it is the same model number look at the price for it here

also one of the reviews on there says "cant do netflix but does lovefilm".

I suppose so I just love a challenge but I am sure some people do not. The reason I use the pi is because of CEC my television remote controls the PI so no need for more controllers :) some machine !

Sorry but all of this is pretty much nonsense.
if you have an sdcard to usb adapter (less than £2 on amazon), then it's as easy as double clicking an exe.

Extra remote not needed, your tv remote controls it via CEC/simplink. Power is usb charger, a few quid. A compatible Wifi dongle on amazon is less than a fiver?
Then what you're getting is far superior product, which can do far more than this.

Raspberry pi is about £30 isnt it ? add few quid for usb lead, couple of quid sd card adapter and about a fiver for wi-fi makes it nearer £40 so i agree its more expensive (nearly £15) so cant really be compared at this price point. I also get his point about some people just want to plug and play rather than buy 3 seperate parts to get something working. If you want to spend £15 more and dont mind a little bit of messing about though the raspberry pi is better especially now its 512mb.

Badly. We had one of these as our TV is an LG, but took it back as it was very slow, crashed often and eventually the remote stopped working. Got a WD instead and it is much faster, has a nicer UI and plays files that the LG would not.

Not bad for £25 though if you can find one...

has anyone even managed to get one of these anyway judging by the 361 degree heat there should be a lot of people ? If 4 months ago people couldnt get them and they are discontinued stock why are people giving this so much heat *sigh*. Well for anyone who needs some heat on there deals just repost this in a few months. The wonderful HUKDers on here will vote you hot in no time :D
