yesterday there was a deal for 377 pounds. i was waiting for my play.com credit card vouchers to arrive and today when they did arrive, i was surprised to find that the cost of the phone was reduced further to 329 pounds. at this price, it is a fantastic deal. add in 3.5% quidco, it makes it a stonking deal which you can pair up with a sim provider of your choice to get a top of the range dual core android mobile phone for a great price. i have played around with this phone in the shop and it is very smooth and responsive. the looks are a bit bland and iphone lite (with its curved edges), but nothing too major. all in all, it is a fantastic deal

I posted the deal yesterday at £379, glad I held off ordering until today now. Do you think it will be £299 tomorrow :-)

Brilliant price for a dual core one....
Dual cores loosing their value very rapidly......was like £500 this one on release barely 2 months ago.

I think it's probably more to do with the fact, the main advantage of this phone was that it was first out of the blocks. With respect, no-one is going select this over the Galaxy II if they were priced the same!

Heat from me, but it would have to drop a little more for me to be interested.

Good deal although after trying one out in store I really dislike the large bottom bezel/buttons :-/

Gone for an Atrix myself although it admittedly more expensive.

Its dropping because the 3D is due any day now and the cant have this phone completeing with there top of the range phone, this is pretty much the same but without the 3D.

Poor mans iphone

Why do you think this is a poor mans iPhone? i could of had a iPhone last week but choose a Samsung GalaxyS2 and its way way way better than your iPhone the iPhone's for people that clearly have no brains or sense of there very own and are like a band of sheep all following each other, my S2 is better in every way its way more powerful can do more and im not tied to Steve for all my needs and i can change my OS as i see fit without voiding my warranty.
#10
Its got an IPS screen like the iphone, just bigger and to many more usable.
However most people may prefer the super plus on the S2.

For the money this is an incredible deal.

Grow up.

Have you even owned both an Android and an iPhone? I have and can say there is no 'better' phone - there are pros and cons and it's all down to what suits the user.

ive just got this on contract after breaking my HD2 after 18months... typical :(.

I had my eyes set on the HTC sensation/ Motorola Atrix/ Samsung Galaxy S2/ LG Optimus 2X, but after research it seems the atrix has some slight pixilation issues(probs wouldnt annoy me), the SGS2 felt so cheap and nasty in the hand i honestly couldnt live with that when its an expensive phone. The prices on contract for the HTC was ~ £35/40 p/m and the atrix £25p/m galaxy s2 was £26+ (only just saw a new deal pop up, before was £30) and the optimus 2x was £20p/m but i went into the phones4u and got them to price match dial a phone and give me a hefty chunk of cashback (they even added my quidco into it, lol!) so i got it for free on £17.50 p/m and the tarrif is 300mins/unlimited text/unlimited email/500mb data on orange, stellar deal imo as thats not really costing me much more than sim only (if i went with that).

Havent seen the sensation in real life but the atrix feels fairly good, its impressive they managed to fit a 1900~ battery in there! And the LG when i used it, just felt solid and reliable.... i have had an LG renoir a few years ago and it was an incredibly reliable phone so i expect the same here, i also have been reading the current issues but it does seem like there are still a lot of people who get good phones, doesnt bother me as i can just get a replacement whenever :).

Anyways, great price for sim only!

And also, Iphone is great for being simple and good for "basic" users... dont take affence but the iphone is extremely limited thats why its easy to use for most people, look at mac... its apparently easier to use than windows and more reliable and thats because of the fact windows supports almost everything whereas mac supports crap all, this applies to the phones market aswell really.

I could never justify over £25 pm, the HD2 was top of its class in everything at the time and that was around £18 p/m for me when i got it (virgin deal + free stuff etc etc) so couldnt pay more than that for a phone thats on par in spec but not features *cough* iphone4 *cough*. I pay £420 for my whole 24months, thats like getting a £5 tarrif! :D.

Forgot to say, all phones have pros and cons... there is no such thing as a poor mans iphone, thats like saying buying x sports car for £50k and then someone saying its a poor mans sports car compared to Y which performs exactly the same but costs £70k.

edit: Why is the iphone spec at a pretty low thickness yet when i see it everywhere its SUCH A CHUNKY MONKEY?

Supposedly that occasional problem already has a fix.

The interesting thing about the X2 is that the iPhone 5 will no doubt also use a 4" LG IPS screen.

Had a play with this but preferred the S2 - much slicker to hold, more responsive (to me) and far better screen.

I don't see the point of dual core phones just yet, especially for Android where it's so fragmented no app will take advantage of the 2nd core, multi tasking is great but with how small most apps are, more ram will benefit people more than a 2nd core. Great price for the phone so definitely a hot deal but I don't think it's really worth buying this over something like a HTC desire, outside of the numbers you get in benchmarks to show off to people.

and this proves that its swings and roundabouts for all phones :).
Thankfully the lag is due to the lg original software, root it and add in a different launcher and its apparently extremely quick. Screen is worse than the SGS2/iphone but still good, better than my hd2 its replacing (i didnt dislike my hd2 screen though so yay),

I think (from experience) this is worth buying over the Desire - low internal memory, poor battery, poor camera.
However, go one generation up to the likes of the nexus s, incredible s, desire s, desire HD, desire Z and I agree there is little advantage other than the dual core performance. These models solved the problems of the original desire, and little has changed really since. So from these no, but from the original Desire yes. Lots has improved.

Also, some apps do take advantage of the dual core processor. The likes of Pinball HD and FruitNinja HD to name a few.

dual core is useful for processor intensive tasks like 1080p recording. also because the phone can optimise tasks better with two cores, the battery consumption is lower. and indeed there will be more games which use this capability. internet pages load faster. so it is well worth it especially if the price is right. my husband is moving over from a htc hero and does not want a 24 month contract. so for him he is very pleased with this deal

yeah on a 24 month deal with my desire hd was considering selling and getting an s2 still got over a year left on the contract, apart from the performace upgrade and 1080p video i didnt see much over desire hd. i prefered the desire hd as whole on the construction an feel side also the screen i prefered on the hd personally choice. i rooted my phone and put a custom rom as HTC werent upgrading the sense to 3.0 ala senseation so i did it my self

this phone has mixed reponses from the android community over its stability.. software fixes might sort it out, if it was simply flakey software that LG hadn't fully tested in order to be out first.

Personally I don't think LG have sufficient history for making and supporting android phones, so I'd wait for some better deals on the Gal S 2, or the HTC Sensation (http://www.eurodroid.com/2011/04/htc-sensation-htcs-first-dual-core-1-2ghz-android-phone/ )

I might also consider the sony playstation phones if I was a gamer.. but early adoption might also bring a financial penalty.

Sadly, rushing out to buy the latest model of a phone whether android or iphone means that you are more likely to get a problematic device either due to unknown design flaws or simply faults in production that aren't ironed out.

"Troll" some, like quite a few on this subject for example, who attempt to wind others up and profess greater knowledge than they actually have.
About half those commenting here actually ! X)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 - highly impressive phone and the specs do seem to eclipse the LG in pretty much every area. However, the LG has Tegra 2 so if u want a better mobile gaming experience (at the moment due to better compatability), the LG might be the better option. If the programmers can patch the Galaxy S2 non-working stuff the price premium of the Galaxy S2 will be worth it, IMO.

Note, one thing I love about the Galaxy S2 is its ability to play pretty much any video format. I've not come across a single video file that didn't work with the default player.

Heat added for a great price on the LG though.
#39
Would steer clear of this phone IMHO... LG made a total dogs dinner of the software which means it eats battery... and lags like anything...

Such a shame, should be such a great phone but the LG software screwed it....

Very much sounds like too many people here do not own one with the exaggerated myths being spoken. Its worth reading the entire thread to see some semblance of truth.

"The Optimus Black Nova screen is reported to have brightness of 700 nits and use zero wattage when displaying black. The iPhone 4 screen which I assume is a mk1 LG IPS mobile screen emits 500 nits of brightness."

N.B. Seems there is some confusion on what the X2 screen is, with some reporting it as a 'Nova display'.

Edited By: LadyEleanor on May 15, 2011 20:02: Nova display update
