Yep, so it should work with an o2 SIM without the need for unlocking.

Not bad. Touch screen is a bit gimicky, pros are you can get a massive screen for web browsing, picture taking. Cons are that texting is slower and you make more mistakes. I also have a duff 'C' button at the moment and dust under the screen as its come away at the side a bit. Dont know if they're common problems or just me.

I had the LG chocolate which had the touch buttons and it was awful in my opinion LG make horrible slow phone which poor software. The phone also broke twice within 12months. Glad to go back to nokia. May jus be my own experience I suppose...

You can find the software to unlock it for free if you do a bit of Googling.

I've owned a Viewty for 6 months and I regret buying it. The camera isn't great considering it's 5MP. Images look really good on the screen as soon as you take a photo, but when you save the image and re-open it again, you can see that quality has been lost (and yes, I know exactly how it works before anyone says anything, haha). Video recording is pretty good though, and it goes up to 120FPS which is exceptional for a phone.

Unless you use approved apps, every time data is sent and received over 3G, you get a warning that says something like "Opera Mini is trying to receive data. This may cost money, do you want to allow it?", except you can't say "yes, and never ask me again", so you get that pop up every time, which is annoying to the point where you'll just give up. There's no wifi either.

The phone supports DivX, except you have to re-encode videos to a certain size before they'll play. Also, the phone doesn't officially support MicroSDHC. Format a card larger than 2GB with the phone and the capacity will show as 2GB, and you'll have to download a piece of software so that you can reformat the card with your computer and get the full capacity back. The phone will see files on a card bigger than 2GB, but don't use the phone to format the card!

I've had a bit of a nightmare with mine to be honest. The battery would last 5 or 6 hours max, even if it was just sitting on the desk doing nothing. I complained to LG and I've had a replacement phone, 4 replacement batteries, and 3 repairs so far. LG scratched the phone when it was away for repair, and I had to write 4 letters to them before they would take any action and they STILL won't replace it, so as I write this, my phone is away for repair again to replace the casing. Supposedly, my repair is an "absolute priority", yet they've had the phone for 12 days now and I've heard absolutely nothing. Their customer service is dire to say the least.

Overall, I'd say the phone is a jack of all trades, master of none. LG's customer support is ****, and their support for the phone isn't that great either as no updated firmware has been released for it to fix any of the bugs or issues that people have been complaining about. Sorry to sound so negative, but I'm just trying to give my honest opinion.

didn't lg chocolate have an actual flat button keypad? this is a touch screen which is a bit different.
You seem to be suggesting that they are the same 'pad' with the way you say 'the touch buttons' sounds like you mean 'the same touch buttons'

BTW, for those wondering about the touch screen - it's not bad. It has haptic feedback so the screen vibrates when you touch it. You can adjust the level of feedback, or disable it completely if you want to save on battery life. For texting, you can enter texts in the standard way (either T9 or multiple presses of the same letter/number), or you can bring up a full keyboard and hold the phone sideways to type. The virtual keys are fairly small though, and occasionally you'll hit the wrong one. The phone has handwriting recognition and comes with a stylus, except there's nowhere to store the stylus in the phone itself (like the Nintendo DS, for example). You can attach the stylus to the phone with a bit of string that comes with the stylus, but it just dangles around and could potentially scratch the case or the screen when in your pocket. The stylus itself is telescopic, so when it's closed it's nice and small, but that also makes it easy to lose if it's not attached to the phone.

The menu design is also inconsistent. Sometimes you get a thin scrollbar on the right hand side of the screen. That means you can slide your finger up and down the screen to scroll up and down - that's cool. Other times you'll get a thicker scrollbar to the right of the screen with an up and down arrow - that means you can't slide your finger on the screen to scroll up and down. Instead you have to hit the up and down arrows, which is not so good.

OK PEOPLE LISTEN UP FOR INFOR ON UNLOCKING. There are 2 versions of this phone, in the sense of software. Those up to version 2.0 and those before. Those before 2.0 can be unlocked to all networks easily, on the spot for around £10. Those 2.0 or later are a nightmare. I paid £40 and had to wait for 4 days for it. And i didnt pay over the odds, everyone of those that could unlock it, which wernt everyone asked for a few days for the phone to be sent off and a few days time to have it unlocked.

What we need is someone who has bought this to confirm what version this is. Or maybe, depending on stock people might get different versions. Buyer be aware.

Ive had a Viewty for 6 months or so and have had no problems what-so-ever. Touch screen works great as does the camera. Great MP3 player, great battery life.

You will have to pay about £40 for an unlock code

ones on ebay say the'll unlock any for £2, if it doesn't work i might just sell it :)

Ive got one of these they arent bad but I wouldnt have another one, the camera and video are very good but the menus are cumbersome , the text messaging is very very annoying if you make a simple mistake, can be hard to change. I got dirt under the screen of mine as well. Ive had the phone for 12 months and it still takes me half an hour to find the calculator !

Worth the money but looking forward to better versions.

i have a question other website sate that its has wi-fi but on description in here its kind of say it doesnt?can anyone confirm it
#31
It does not have Wi-Fi.

I have had one for a long while now and think its pretty rubbish.

The touch screen is poor, the camera is rubbish: my old k800i took much better pics.

Apps and games are rarely built for it, meaning you have to use touch screen versions of normal buttons which is awful.

I wouldn't get it again.

This is a touch screen though, which is totally different to the one on the chocolate.

From a Viewty owner, I will say this is a pretty decent mobile... and damn good for the price!

The camera isnt that great tbh. Problem is the same with all phone cameras - such a tiny sensor means loads of noise in anything but perfect lighting. For being 5mp, the pics are pretty compressed too, meaning less quality. Average pic is about 300-600kb for me,

Video mode is absolutely brilliant... one of the best I have seen on a mobile. And it's not too bad in gloomy weather either but sunny is where it's strengths lie. It's also the only camera that can record in 120fps I believe, which is a nice feature to show off with...Beware though - 120fps recording = small resolution (forced) and the video also turns out much darker. Unless it's a sunny day it will be very noisy and washed out.

Web browsing? No idea... with o2 charging £3+ per MB or £7.50 for 200mb i've kind of given that feature a miss... which is a shame because I hear browsing on the Viewty is pretty good.

UI - Pretty sleek, easy and intuitive... wont take long to find your way around.

Built-in DivX playback. Also plays my MP4 nero digital recodes fine too. If the video has a greater res than 640px wide though, it wont play. Bit of a let-down.

Basically, yeah... it's got more than it's fair share of problems, but at £120 this is a really nice business-style mobile.

Jeez  I was simply explaining my view on LG phones, I do realise this is a touch screen

This is a terrible phone, don't bother. I have had 2 in 6 months and am now awaiting a nokia n95 to replace. You can hear an echo when you talk to people and they say the same thing (ie they can hear themselves talking when talking to you on viewty) IMHO these are just a gimmick and when the novelty wears off they become very frustrating!

But thats the thing - your view is irrelevant as its about a keypad not featured on this phone.

This isn't the phone - it's the local conditions.

I've actually got a Viewty, had it for 4 months. Love it to bits. I managed to unlock it for free - go to KU990.com for the various flavours of firmware.

Nice and fast, does everything I want it to do plus a few nice touches that excite the gadget-lover in me!

The one and only negative thing I've found is, as mentioned above, the camera isn't as good as you'd expect.

It was ku990.co.uk, but it's now changed to mygreatphone.com. The old link redirects you to the new one at the moment. The only difference between the firmwares is the branding anyway. The 2 methods for unlocking the phone are on their wiki page here under Modifications: -

No my view was overall I wouldn't recommend LG due to the fact mine broke twice within a year. In my opinion I am entitled to my view. This place is getting so hostile lately...
