Seems pretty hot to me, although only 2 degrees when I saw it ??? Any1 say why not hot?

Just too early in the posting?
Value Brand?
People don't realise its portable?

I'm in the market for one that is all and my tech knowledge is not as high as others. Although higher than those who vote cold because they saw a 3.5" SATA at £10 cheaper thinking its the same ;-) (not hating, just saying).

Spot on geeadamg.I'm also looking for a portable hd for wd tv & me lappy.Been looking at wd passports,But they are £48 for 320 gig & as you prob know you cant have enough hard drive space.Seems to get good reviews & will supposedly fit in a lappy & also compatible with PS3.

sorry wrong info*

are these drives any good? Would seem a better deal that the WD passport if it has a better protective casing, or is the actual HD in the passport better?

The drive in the LGXD2 is made by hitachi,See here :http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/06/24/review_external_hdd_lg_xd2_500gb/
I could'nt comment on quality of the drive as i have never owned a hitachi drive before,Unless i'm mistaken Dell use's hitachi drives.
What i can comment on is WD drives (got 3) A my book & 2 WD Raptors in my desktop which must have done millions of read/writes & are still going strong after 3 years of abuse.
If you can afford the extra tenner for a WD my passport,I would go for one of them.

ah ok, cheers for that.

might wait for the WD to go down in price then ^_^

I have one of these - works OK but has some issues like never turns itself off if there's still power going to it but no signal - this may be good or bad depending on what you want to use this for and if the device you use it with constantly provides power to the USB even after turning itself off.

So for example if you have this plugged into a powered USB Hub then even if your PC turns itself off this will keep on spinning. That may be good or bad depending on what you're after.

Have you tried all the usb port's on you're pc,Because some pc's usb's power off when you put to standby/sleep/shut down.

Thanks OP, voted hot and ordered. Shame that delivery time is 6-9 working days, which seems far too long. Oh well, I wasn't in that much of a hurry.
