Lidl 'Queen Margot' Cream Liqueur (a Baileys rip-off) @ £6.41/Litre (£4.49/bottle)

valiantvaliant

Normally £5.49 a 70cl bottle, so £1 off.

This stuff is indistinguishable from Baileys, at least to my taste. Same alcohol content (17%). I did a blind taste test with some friends (Lidl, Tesco's 'Extra Special' own-brand and Baileys) and none of them could spot the real Baileys with any confidence.

there is not very much difference. I could not tell, mind you I am not a cream liqueur afficionado :whistling:

Thanks for this. Cheap enough to give it a try. Will also pick up some of their mince pies which were voted best of all the supermarkets pies on This Morning. £1.49 for 12 which is brill.

I like Queen Margot, been buying it for a few years now. We did a taste test (sad, I know :p ), between Bailey's and this. This is not quite as creamy, smooth and thick, has an ever so slightly harsher edge, but its still VERY drinkable. For the difference in price, I buy Queen Margot every time!

ps. Their mince pies are wonderful!

pps. Their Amaretto is pretty good too!

bet they picked out the tesco finest one though. i got that, tastes more watery and more alcoholic than baileys. but then i am a great lover of the really cheap irish cream from asda and tesco thats bout 3quid a bottle most the time. country something or other. or a bit of tia lusso always slips down well. he he

voted hot for the fact its still 17% unlike most other irish creams

I wouldn't try the Peach Schnapps if I were you! Can't discribe the taste, other than calling it 'un-natural'. Yuck.

Can't beat the real deal with Schnapps!

The cheaper ones in Tesco are less than 17% alcohol (14% I think). This one is equivalent to the Tesco 'Extra Special' Irish Cream Liqueur, which is a lot more expensive.

    Peach Schnapps is yuck :prop:

I've got 2 bottles of Baileys here that are about 2 years past the sell by date - do you think I can still drink it? I thought not because of the cream content.

Taste it. If it's off you'll tell pretty quickly. :)

If you like this type of liqueur why not make your own? An ex g/f's mum used to make this at Xmas and it tasted pretty awesome.
    HOMEMADE BAILEY's
    1pt single cream
    14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
    1 3/4 cups Irish whiskey (I use Jameson's)
    1 tsp. instant coffee
2 Tbsp. Hershey's chocolate syrup or alternative
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. almond extract
Combine all ingredients & blend for about 30 secs then bottle and enjoy. Shake before serving. Will keep a few weeks in fridge (or wont as case may be!). You can also add a couple of eggs if you're not bothered about samonella (helps bind it)!

Maybe the alcohol will kill the salmonella?

I'm glad someone's posted this deal - but it's only 31 degrees at the moment, unlike the Baileys threads. Why this obsession with brand names? People who insist on them always miss out on the real bargains, for no benefit.
