Note that apparently these are NOT in high definition. This appears to be DVD-quality standard definition series published on BD just to save space.

Is that not the case with so many Blu-Ray DVD's anything more than a couple of years old wouldn't have been in HD but don't they upscale them or somehting to get a better quality???

Basically most things will have been shot on film for like ..... ever. That allows older films etc to transfer to hd. In the same way that film slrs are much better than digital slrs. I heard somewhere that for a digital camera to match a film camera for quality you would be looking at about 100mp or more.

the last part is sort of true - a 35mm frame of slide film would need a scan of around 100 megapixels to extract all the data it can resolve. digital images can look a bit cleaner or sharper up to a certain point, but once you enlarge them past their original resolution they look awful, whereas more film grain doesn't ruin the image. besides, digital and film each have a 'look' that neither can replicate of each other, personally i much prefer the colour rendering and feel that film gives to an image, whereas some prefer the digital look.

does anyone know what life on mars was shot with (film or video)? its been so long since i saw the first season on TV i can't really remember.

Plus Quidco of course.

Thats for the standard DVD, not the Blu-ray version mentioned here (so not to confuse people).
