I'm sure many of you are fully aware at what a great price this is for this tv, as many people on this forum were going crazy about this being over £1000 recently and according to John Lewis, they've received a very high volume of demand for this package.

This package includes the Plasma TV which seems to be around the £900 mark on it's own, the official stand, which seems to be around the £500 region, 5 years warranty which costs anywhere between £250-£500 from most competitors and delivery but we spoke to our Local John Lewis in Oxford Street and managed to make them pricematch with a company called WWW.ASKDIRECT.CO.UK who are based in Tottenham Court Road.

When we spoke to this other company, they said they would let us have this package for £899 including delivery and they would deliver the same evening but we opted to wait an extra week for delivery and pay £15 more due to the 5 years warranty.

Hope this is useful to anyone in london and hope this TV will be as good as all the reviews have made out but make sure to get the pricematch, as i think the instore price is £200 higher than the price we bought it for.

Fair enough. Fairly decent deal then :)

I doubt it being substandard at all, as Cutthroat mentioned, it must be a mistake, as we've done quite a lot of research before investing in this TV and it seems it's without a doubt, one of the best plasmas available for it's size.

we brought one last week,

amazing tv. fantastic quality, especially on the build in freeview, the clarity really stood out from others in the shop.

Paid 899 for it last week with no 5 year warranty. so go for it.

It's instock, i got a pricematch confirmed from the Oxford Street branch earlier today and it's now scheduled for delivery next thursday morning and so has my friend.

Try calling them on 020 7629 7711, hope that helps.

It doesn't say anything about a warranty but if you want just the pedestal stand then it's cheaper. They also have the 37" for £829

See here Panny 42" pedestal

To be honest, i was going to buy the tv on a pedestal stand but after seeing how amazing this tv looks on the deluxe cabinet, i couldn't bare to see it any other way.

You also have to bare in mind that most places charge around £500 for the stand alone and another £500 for the 5 years warranty, which is nearly £1000.00 on top of the TV's price that some people are quoting near the £900 mark but everythings already included in this offer.

Also don't forget that once Askdirect is out of stock, John Lewis will no longer price match it, so hopefully no one buys from Askdirect and everyone acts quickly to get this pricematched.

i dont reallly understand because it says its out of stock on the john lewis website. or is it available instore? i was tempted to try and get it from askdirect but they wont deliver and i dont fancy the 100 mile journey to the store.

£499 5 years warranty

worth remembering some credit cards (my nationwide) add free extended year on top of the normal one for free.

Saying this still hoping for a good price match from JL.

Think they will honour price match in Newcastle for a store thats only in London? it says on there undersales leaflet they will refund if can find any store in UK within 28 days? so they should have to price match in the first place surely?

Think JL have no stock at moment in stores so could be a wait for delivery.

Hi there Dunno,

I think i mentioned it the original post but i was multi-tasking at the time of listing the deal, so maybe i forgot but the deal is only available instore for delivery.
According to both the sites, they're both out of stock but if you visit/speak to the branch itself, they'll confirm it's definately instock.

I recommend you first hunt around your local highstreets anywhere near any John Lewis stores in order to get a price match, you may want to call them and ask what kind of milage radius they're willing to price match upto before you look around.
If you can't find it at a reasonable price, the contact details for the John Lewis Oxford Street branch is 020 7629 7711 and the Askdirects contact number on Tottenham Court Road is 020 7307 8321.

I recommend only buying from Askdirect as a last resort, as it may mean other people won't receive there pricematch once askdirect is out of stock, costing everyone else an extra £200 in order to get the full package including 5 years warranty.

Also if you would like to speak to your local John Lewis, enter your postcode in this link where you'll find a box on the righthand side of the screen and it'll direct you to your nearest branches: http://www.johnlewis.com/Shops/DShome.aspx

Hope you found that helpful

Hi there,

If John Lewis state they pricematch with any store within the UK, then it's all good, so if someone finds out before me, i'll add it to the original post that the deal is available nationwide providing they have it instock.

We reserved our TV a while ago since it was on backorder from there suppliers anyway and we were waiting for them to 100% confirm the price match before we paid all that money, as i didn't want them to say the askdirect is out of stock, so you have no option other than to pay the full price, costing us an extra couple hundred.

Hope that was helpful

thanks for the reply realfriendlyman, my local john lewis seems to be bristol which is about 30miles from me, do you think its possible to try and arrange the price match over the phone? as i dont really want to travel to bristol only to be told they wont price match.

Hi again,

When we originally contacted John Lewis, we did it over the phone and they told us providing they find this price at the store that we stated, they will pricematch, so i do suggest you call them first before you travel that long distance.

Hi Shaun127 and welcome to the forums,

I've started reading all the comments from page 107-109 and it does sound worrying but apparantly this problem is with some sets and someone from Japan is doing extensive tests and will release a solution, which they expect will be completed shortly.

The great thing about buying this tv from John Lewis is we all know that they just simply don't mess about, if there is a problem, they will replace it without causing a fuss and i'm now very happy i've bought it with the 5 years warranty included.

Ah yes the famous snakes...you pays your money and you takes your choice between plasma and LCD. Neither are perfect, that's why both technologies are still available

Morning realfriendlyman

thanks for the Wecome. Didnt expect it to be so warm.

I have the price match letter sitting in front of me from JL £917 but prices have dropped agin so prob get it cheaper.
Yr right it is only affecting some sets. They prob can apear straight out of the box or can take days months to appear.but they've ran a Poll on the AV forum and it affecting approx 50% of owners on there. many have bought from JL and had probs getting a refund. some have had their sets replaced more than once and are still having the problem with the replacemnets sets, somehave had the problem since buying the Tv last March when it was launched. Up until now Panasonic have denied there is a problem and depending on who you speak to at the call centre still are. One Guy in japan has reported that Pan Japan have stated that they are aware of a prob and have a fix. his Tv was due to be fixed yesterday.

I would still suggest that all owners of this set read the whole thread, get hold of the DVDs suggested, play them, see if they have the prob and then lodge a complaint with panasonic and their retailer asap.
I hope that there arent many of you. as I said get a good one, you have a great bargain and a great TV.

@ CFC yes there are still probs with both technologies LCD and Plasma. but this is a genuine Fault in this particular TV not a fault with plasma Tech People buying this , which in affect is actually a top TV from a top Manufacturer deserve a TV that Delivers what it promises.

Please read the thread so you are aware of the problem and are in a position to get a result concerning this problem whether it be a fix replacement or refund.

Hope all goes well for you I really do.

By the way I have seen the problem while demo-ing a TV using Superman returns

Good Luck

I hve done exactly that with the Bristol store, arranged the whole deal over the phone, price matched with Askdirect, free delivery and installation included. Cannot fault the price or service, sadly it wont be delivered until Thursday but then I do live many miles away so seems fair enough.

dont bother reading the long thread about snakes.... it'll only makeu look for them.

Enjoy watching your tv instead of looking for flaws, if you spot the snakes it will only drive you crazy from that day on (like a dead pixel)

Ive got one, havent seen any snakes yet, but havent been looking for them, so either theres a good chance you'll get one without the fault (im jinxed, i always get the faulty stuff!) or u dont see them if u dont look. :)

Just spoken to my nearest JL's(Norwich) after waiting all week for this very same price match with Askdirect so know it now can be done only to be told JL's have been told to take no more orders on this set as they have far too many already, to say i'm p++++d off after waiting all week would be an understatment.:x

Can anyone tell me the height of this when it is on the cabinet? I can find the TV specs no problem, but nothing about the cabinet size. Thanks

That's a real big shame, did you reserve it while they were attempting to pricematch, as that's what we did and we didn't experience any problems and then my friend called them yesterday and he's now ordered one as well.

By the sound of things, they will pricematch with any store, so try calling another branch and it should be ok

Hope you find that helpful.

Hi again Dunno,

There's no reason to be shy, they don't know you and everyone else is doing it anyway, it's not like they're going to get offended if you ask to take advantage of there store policy :)

You don't have to pay over the phone, all you have to do is give them the details of the pricematched store and then i recommend you reserve it, as this tv is selling very high volumes.

Once they confirm that the pricematch is available to you, then just go to the store and pay for it :)

Hope that helps Dunno

ok i'll ring them, nothing ventuered as they say. do i need to get a price match code or something? if they accept.

Never reserved at the time as they had none in stock only they were getting some more in.
Just phoned another branch and was told they only have 2 listed in any of their stores as from this morning, 1 in Reading and 1 somewhere else cant remember where but every chance that they will have gone by now. They have an outstanding order of 1000 sets to be delivered, they dont know when but as I understand it this model is being discontinued so I would not mind betting they wont materialise. Virtually everywhere are now running out of stock on the net, but really only want with the JL 5 warranty.

I am a little confused as to how to get this deal:
do I phone up my local John Lewis, and ask them to price match this

against this

?

(the first link doesn't have a stand, the second one does...)

oh yeah good point tea-towel. does any1 know if the the john lewis one comes with the cabinet stand?

If people are still unsure about this tv I must say go for it. I install tv's for a living and have installed everything from Beko to Sharp, from JVC to Panasonic. All I can say is the snake issue MUST be a very very small number, I have never had to visit a customer due to a snake issue and this is the first I have heard of it.

I must also confirm that my job consists of installing about 500% more Panasonic tv's than any other brand and I am happy with that because they are so damn good to work with. Also Panasonic customer support are spot on so any problems will be dealt with in quick time if your vendor decides to mess you about. Oh and I can confirm that I have installed hundreds this year and only ever had 2 dead tv's and they were dead out of the box, one I am sure was second hand because the bits were loose inside. :(

And I must stress that I have never returned to a customers house to replace a Panasonic once I had installed it and left leaving everything up and running. I have to confess that I have replaced loads of Beko tv's (understandable), 2 Sharp and 1 JVC tv. Considering Panasonic outsell it's it's nearest rival by at least 500% within our network I must say that that is awesome build quality.

And no i don;t work for Panasonic, I am just giving my honest opinion on how good I think these tv's are. And the connections you get on the back are more than adequate at this moment in time. O h andas you can see, they are well smart to look at too. ;)

You are all lucky. I bought mine 9 months ago for £1900. i tell you what though its a great TV shame I couldn't wait
