Thanks!

You're welcome, for once there was a bargain to be had at Maplin's, it had to be posted here...
Portable HDDs are usually quite expensive or very small, this one is average but I don't think you'll get better value for that kind of money anywhere else, and for at least a little while. For that price you can get maybe 8GB of flash memory, so it's a rather comfortable storage option to carry your music, videos or pictures around. Perfect for backups for the camera on holidays...

What's more, you get to buy from a high street retailer, which makes it easier if by chance you had a problem with it, and Seagate is the number one in hard drives for a good reason, so it's also your own peace of mind that you're buying for £39...

Enjoy while it lasts!

If it's for a desktop it's fine, but this one is a 2.5" drive, which means portable, quiet and most of all, self powered. In other words, you can use it on the go without mains plug, it uses the USB port to get its power.

So unlike a 3.5" desktop drive, you can think of it as a giant USB memory. ;-)

You do realise, Seagate drives (even OEM ones, though this isn't an OEM) are covered by a 5 year warranty?

I am amazed that you had 2 Seagates that failed, I have always bought Seagates & have one for more years than I care to remember without fault. I can only suggest that you speak to there CS which in my opinion is second to none! That is, if you don't have a poncy case full of LED/Neons & no respect for the internal workings of your computer.

Well this is rather unique... At 8:50 the postman delivered a letter from Maplin stating the drive was out of stock. A couple of minutes ago the postwoman who brings my parcels delivered said drive:santa:

I had the same e-mails, and the same message on my account last night, so I sent them a very snotty e-mail saying what a very dissappointing first shopping experience with them, please remove all my details as I won't be shopping with them again etc etc.....

and this morning my drive was delivered

I haven't checked my card yet, but judging by their form to date anything could have happened :w00t:

I have also received my drive this morning and a seperate order advice in the post letting me know that the drive is out of stock! Sounds like Maplin has got a bit confused. :whistling:

Thanks to Kiddson!
#37
Maplin are wierd.

Only thing i've found wrong with the drive is it needs 2 USB connections as theres not enough power from a single one on my laptop. It does have a socket for an external supply but even though the manual gives PSU specs it DOESN'T seem to mention the polarity DOH!!!

I've just realised my drive was delivered to my home address, instead of work as requested, and the order advice has just arrived in the post at work instead of my billing address  it says:

The following items have not been included with this order

A05CY Sea 2.5Ex USB 100Gb
Currently out of stock. Please see text on reverse (There is none - it's just a returns form)

Monies received £39.99

Thank you for your order.

Well, I have my drive, and there's a chance I've paid the right amount for it, so it's not all bad, but it is damn confusing.
