What kind of meat are in them :)

I'm not a veggy but these are quite tastey.
#2
They are Linda McCartney pies, as it says in the title.

I guess they must have stuck her in the deep freeze when she died.

I guess legally she is considered a vegetable!
#3
Picked up some of these last night, not a veggie myself but the missus is and these are about the best thing you can get!

I had them last night and wasn't overly excited by them. I usually enjoy vegetarian food, but I get slightly uncomfortable when it tries to mimic meet products. I almost get defensive with their attempts to trick me.

I walked past the freezer isle in Tesco last night and my eye was caught by a nice looking Garlic Kiev. Yes, it looked nice, it appeared honest, it was favourably priced...and then...It wasn't the Chicken Kiev I had pictured myself enjoying at all. No, it was a fake and a lie.

A victory for chickens, perhaps, but certainly a slant on chicken lovers (in the culinary sense of the word).

Sorry but I find that in very poor tatste (probably not as bad as the pies though).

These pies are okay. Good price just over 27p a pie. Can't argue with that.

Plus no meat is healthier.
#7
i remember reading that these were meant to be a 'new improved recipe' but guess still not that good... I had them last year and they were too buttery and not much taste to the filling....

They can't have a very high Linda McCartney content though, as they make loads of different products and she wasn't that big.

I wonder if they'll start doing Heather Mills meat free products? If they do I think I'd stick to breast as the leg might be a bit tough.

On most of the boxes they say new and improved...how long does it go on not to be considered that? They always have that on the packaging...

Good price I love these pies though
#11
looks nice enough, thx
#12
How do you know its not meat?

Wasnt there a scandal a few years ago with Linda McCartney stuff when one of the suppliers was using some sort of meat derivative or by product in some of her products?

I dont have a problem with veggies at all but if I were one I dont think that I would be taking the risk by buying 'meatish' just in case I was being fooled.

Exactly, if you want meat. Eat meat.

All this kind of **** does is hide that you can make REALLY good veggie things. Horrible fake chicken is not it.

That said, this has zero bearing on whether it's a good deal or not.
#14
I believe these are vegan too

This new and improved recipe = cheaper and more cardboardy pastry.

Seriously these things have gone downhill badly, and the sausages they are ropey as well. Real shame they both used to be nice. :x

I dont know so much, you do yourself a favour not buying chicken kievs, lets face it they are glorified chicken nuggets, and if you havent seen Jamie Oliver on tv showing exactly what goes into chicken nuggets....well its hardly chicken.

so your saying chicken nuggets look like chicken? sausages look like pigs? burgers look like cows?

Meat doesn't own the patent to look the way it does, you only recognise it to look like that as you see it more often. What should a vegetarian pie look like?
#18
my wife is a veggie and hated these,

i eat meat and liked them!

Yuck I don't like these! I think for vegetable pies they could be ALOT better.

A vegetarian pie should have vegtables in. Peas, carrots, potato, celery etc.

Not imitation meat, trying to get the texture and look of meat and failing miserably usually.

I like foods that happen to be vegetarian, due to not containing meat.
"Vegetarian foods" usually are poor attempts to copy a meat-based original, and rarely are tasty.

Veg lasagne, with lentils, tomatoes, spinich etc is tasty.
"Vegetarian sausages" are usually cardboard-like in character and flavour.

Still the deal is good, regardless of the edibility of the product.

as much as I like peas and celery I'm not sure they'd be that nice in a pie ;-)

I don't eat meat for ethical reasons (as most vegetarians), its not because I don't like the taste of meat or the texture...

They're trying to make it TASTE like meat. A veggie pie should taste of awesome veg, not of a very, very **** attempt at chicken.

I agree with you,I have been a veggie about 14 years now and alot of the products do seem to be going down hill, they are always nice when first produced but thats about all.....Never been a fan of the sausages, always thought they tasted dodgy...

I would much prefer it to be full of veg instead of mimicing something that will never happen.....Its the same with these fishless fish fingers, what is the point :?: I almost threw up when I gave them a try,im always up for trying new things once

I'll second that. The pies are smaller and have less filling these days, and they have spiced them up a bit too I think. Definitely not as good as they used to be.

That's a horrid thing to say.
I guess you must have not inserted your "good taste" chip for this little joke.
Either that, or I'm just a boring git!

Sold out in the Tesco's near the Stoke City ground - answering the age old question, "who ate all the pies?"

elfuc* stop being a total ******
#31
To be fair - its a while since I tried the stuff - but I stopped as most Linda McCartney stuff was mega high in fat.
#32
Had some of mcartnys food before, tastless and extremely oily :x - so won't be going back.Isn't it strange how vegetarians always make their stuff out to look as though there was/is meat involved. - Give me a good wholesome proper meat pie anyday!!!:whistling:
#33
i tried these and they are horrible imo

What do vegetarian worms eat?

Linda Mccartney. :-D

What is Linda McCartney good for? Her music was ****, her food is ****, her photographs were nothing special, she had plenty of money before she married Paul, has even more money as a result of it... so just because she died of cancer I have to whisper her name and bow?

She was useless and for me to call her a vegetable is, frankly, a complement. That's my opinion so stuff it in her foul tasting pie and eat it :pirate:

And it's MISTER elfuc* to you!
#36
These pies are ok with some mash, veg and gravy but when I tasted them on their own they were quite horrible. I really like the Linda McCartney sausages! I agree about the need for a good vegetable pie, I don't remember the last time I had one of those.

Also, my two cents... the first few comments in poor taste were quite lovely..... but making jokes about someone's corpse? There has to be a line somewhere...

I'm not vegetarian, but thought I'd try them at this price :)
