The Wireless-N Notebook Adapter is the simple way to add or upgrade wireless connectivity in your notebook computer. Just slide it into your notebook's PC Card slot and enjoy incredible high-speed wireless network access while retaining true mobility.

The Wireless-N Notebook Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.

With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the throughput can be increased even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G.

Once you're connected, you can keep in touch with your e-mail, access the Internet, and share files and other resources such as printers and network storage with other computers on the network, wherever you wander. At home, you can surf the web or use instant messaging to chat with friends while sitting out on the patio. You'll also be able to connect with any of the growing number of public hotspots springing up in coffee shops, airport lounges, hotels and convention centers. Your wireless connection is protected by industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step.

The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. Get your notebook connected to Wireless-N, Wireless-G, and Wireless-B networks with the Wireless-N Notebook Adapter from Linksys.

About Draft 802.11n
With speeds of up to 600 Mbps, the emerging 802.11n standard is the next generation of wireless networking, delivering the speed, range, and reliability to support the most bandwidth intensive applications. 802.11n incorporates multiple technologies including Spatial Multiplexing MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out), 20 and 40 MHz channels, and dual bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) to generate the high speeds and at the same time communicate with legacy 802.11b/g devices. The 802.11n specification was approved for 1.0 draft status in March 2006, with ratification expected sometime in 2007. Manaufactures are committed to collaborating with the IEEE and WiFi Alliance to ensure that 802.11n devices will interoperate at the highest speeds without degrading performance of neighboring 802.11b/g wireless networks.

This is actually a pretty good deal.

Much better than a usb, as it doesn't stick out. Only supports draft N 1.0. But I don't think it will be much of a major problem.

Description a bit misleading. Doubt this will come close to 270mbps as it only supports 2.4Ghz.

Good price anyways.
I doubt the average user would push 30mbps over a gigabit lan let alone 270 over wifi. :p

Good deal though. I thought this was going to one up the buffalo usb deal i purchased but thankfully not, as I dont have the card slot for this. Hot though.
It's better to buy a mini-pci card and replace the internal card - nothing sticking out then. I've bought some for £8 each with free delivery on ebay.
Looks like it does stick out, but certainly more robust than a USB dongle.
If I need to get signal as the one I get gets cut sometimes and weak because of the distance?? can anyone help? I need to know how to get this signal stronger and what I need to buy???

are you talking about your router or laptop?
what router do you have?
Excellent price! Was just thinking about one, perfect timing and good price for a decent quality product.
I have a Dell Studio 15 that seems to have a card slot (it didn't mention anything about it in the specifications). Does anyone with this laptop know whether this will work with it?
This is a PCMCIA card and NOT the newer ExpressCard format.

The Dell Studio range was only launched a year or two ago so I'd imagine most of those have ExpressCard slots and not PCMCIA slots.
Just the thing for my ageing 802.11b laptop to stop it dragging the network down to 11Mbps...
