Thanks Ray :) good price.

Note that this does not have an ADSL modem built in, so can't be directly connected to your phone line without using a seperate modem (it is not compatible with USB modems).

Thanks for the info AlanB :)

Excellent, do you know whether its V5 of the hardware?
#8
it will should be firmware upgradable so the version of it should entirly matter really.
#9
Note it's a broadband DSL wireless router and it has NO modem:)

Thanks AlanB above for the ADSL note ;)

It does .. v5 and above uses vmwork and less memory, hence, it is not easy to replace the stock firmware with third party firmwares. The DD-WRT developer has found a way around this limitation but surely, it is not straight upload of the firmware binary as before .. and the chance of 'bricking' your router is much higher..

I noted that the other day, maybe I should have posted it?

Left wondering if that's the same AlanB from DVD forums?

Can this be used with NTL cable broadband?

How many wireless connections does it have? I need 5.

Thanks.

I can confirm this will work on NTL cable broadband. Connect with your ethernet port. (I got one myself)

I always thought that wireless connections are unlimited?

Maybe someone can help with that question.

From a memory, recommended number for 802.11g is 64 clients/channel. Overall Linksys should be able to handle 253 clients (including wired ones), so 5 shouldn't be an issue.
In my case 54GS got 4 wired clients + 4 others, two of each are not PCs (mobile phone and DVD player) and it works OK. My broadband provider is NTHell, so yes it works with their setup.
Do remember that if you were plugging their modem straight to your PC or to other router, you'll need to disconnect your modem from power for an hour or so (NTL recommend 4 hours) so it'll clear clients list and then be able to accept MAC address of Linksys router.

I am looking for a Wireless Router for our 3 storey flat ( 4 users). WE have an NTL cable broadband at the moment but we will change to BT ADSL (eg Talktalk package) in 3 months time. Is there a Linksys Router that can do this. Note one fo the users is an Apple Mac user. Can we purchase this http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35114&highlight=wrt54g

Any advise welcome.

I have the WRT54GS and its performed flawlessly since purchase about 2 years back. Its perfectly happy with either PCs or Macs. I have a wired iMac connection and a wireless iBook connection. If you buy a DSL router now you will need a modem in addition to connect to BT when you migrate.

Welcome to HotUKDeals by the way :)

So can anyone recommend a modem deal that is compatible with this Router?

I guess we are looking for an ADSL modem with an Ethernet output port. A quick search of the internet reveals these cost about £28+ plus P&P (scan.co.uk), so this doesn't make this that much of a bargain if all you currently have is a USB modem like me. Something for around £10 would be great. Go hunt!
