If like mine, it takes a SD Card & you put the SD Card in to a SD Adapter & then put the Adapter in your Digital frame.

Is the slider in the wrong position - locked?

Could be that the card reader on your laptop isn't compatible with SD-HC cards (if it is one of them) Try using your Camera/Phone as the card reader via a USB cable or getting a newer card reader (if this is the case)

I think it's a card writer that is needed here.

Does your computer recognise the card?
Can you right click on it and click on properties?
Are you getting an error message?

But surley they all read and write anyway since they're I/O devices

Forgot to say that if like mine you have to transfer all your photos from camera/phone & put on your PC then transfer the photos back on to a 2nd SD card that you have for the photo frame.Unless I'm also doing it wrong ?

have you checked the little slide is in the unlock position, is your card SDHC and reader only SD also have you tried formating the card (formating will lose all the data on the card if you had any, My Computer, right click on the card, format) had a few times where I pulled out an sd card without saftely removing it first which it screwed up the card, formated it and worked again luckily didnt have important data on it. :p
