Does this burn blu-ray or read only?
#3
also could i stream it to my living room lcd tv?
#4
It doesn't burn, nor can it stream, the drive requires a decoding software and hardware capable of that also.

any other questions just ask :-)

No mate,It comes with an OEM copy of Cyberlink PowerDVD (mine did anyway).
#7
well, it will come with software, which hopefully isnt a trial software, but even if it is i`m sure the latest divx and VLC media players play blu-ray no problem, which are free options.
#8
can you link it to a tv rather than computer
#9
No mention of MAC support?
#10
Bought the last one :D

Apple systems won't be able to play Blu-ray at present - the operating system is restricted to play the blu-ray format.

No, you could see if you could link the pc/laptop to the tv instead if the right connections are available on your equipment though.
#13
Why expired? You can still buy it for £68 from Amazon. The only thing is that it takes 1 to 3 weeks.

Pleease un-expired

Yes, the thing with external drives is that they are a convenient and easy way to upgrade. I am pretty sure that 9 out of 10 people with PC's are not capable of installing an internal one. But pretty much anyone can do an external one.

I would go for an internal one myself and a burner as well, but I saw the deal and thought that I should share it with people in here. Is still a good price

TBH I don't' see the point of getting a blu-ray drive which can't burn ??
#18
Indeed - this can't even burn a CD!

This is kind of like the HD DVD drive of the XBOX 360. A nice addon. If you could get this thing working with the XBOX 360 it would be brilliant.

Been cheaper before. But always a good reminder for those who still want blu-ray

Wrong. There's no free software that will decrypt the blu-rays. AnyDVD will do it, but costs (and then you can rip it to computer and use something like CCCP or possibly VLC to just play the movie file (biggest m2ts) off the disc without menus, special features etc.).

A new version of PowerDVD is probably what you need. The full versions are quite pricey... if this comes with an OEM version that plays blu-ray video, has the audio options you need etc. then you're sorted.

Umm for watching (or ripping) blu-ray movies? Or blu-ray games or whatever other PC stuff they put in BD-ROM in the future (probably not very quickly, they were still releasing games on 6 CDs instead of a DVD well after DVD-ROM was very popular!)? I wouldn't want to burn blu-ray now anyway, the discs are so expensive, much cheaper to buy 1TB hard drives for big storage, flash drives for moving a few files around and occasionally burn a DVD (assuming you can already do that and you don't NEED a single multipurpose drive)

Ah yeah, my bad....you need anydvd loaded firstly which then allows you to use VLC to play the film.

VLC may allow you to play a file but not the 'film' like most people might imagine it (ie like a DVD). There's a lot of messing about to get to that stage so it's not for people who just want to play a disc they own.

The PowerDVD app that comes with the drive is excellent and will allow updates if required. Never need to change it after that and it'll work forever. There's no restrictions. It may be a reduced version but that's not going to matter to many people. http://www.cyberlink.com

I'm trying to get the exact dimension of this box. It is here at CCLOnline with: 14.58cm (W) x 18.0cm (D) x 4.14cm (H) - Weight 0.8kg

Who is right?

EDIT: Savastore has the exact dimension as CCL Online, so these must be right??
