This dvd recorder is available at Tesco instore only for £68.84. Doesnt appear to be avilable online. Best nearest online price is around £90 so quite a saving. May not be at all stores.

It can be very easily changed to multiregion with its own remote using the LVMW-5005 model region hack.

The tesco in reading had the dvd recorder, no idea if other stores have it or not. Can confirm the multiregion override does indeed work with the included remote, no need to for a separate special remote.

Does anybody know if this has DTS?
The spec doesn't seem to mention it, but this website does:
http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/dvd-recorders/liteon-lvw5115-dvd-recorder.asp

I've currently got the 5005 model and want to upgrade to this for the component out, but don't want to lose DTS.

Cheers,

I can't find any mention of DTS on their website either...

Not DTS unfortunately :(

just bought one regardless of DTS.. i don't think my hearing is good enough to tell the difference anyway.
The increase in picture quality was much more important as this had component/progressive, which my previous liteon didn't.
Also, this doesn't look like crap under the TV :)
I'll update when i've tested it a bit

Look forward to the feedback on it hairychad :)

feedback so far is that it's a fantastic picture on a HD plasma via component/progressive scan, and good dolby digital via component digital bit-stream output.
Dad tried the DVD recording and said it was user friendly, although to be honest, it's only as good as a scart signal can provide...
I only tried one dvd with several divx shows on. It played an xvid, but there was slight jerking at the start during the credits, and the pure divx played fine. A high resolution HD xvid failed completely, but then it never said that the machine played xvid, so the fact the first one played was a surprise.
I will try more divx cd's in the next few days.

Thanks hairychad, sounds good so far :)

Looks like I'll be taking mine back to Tesco for a refund :(

Seems to have issues with certain media types, so not much good to me for my backup dvd film collection.

Pity, as it seemed a nice player and my Sumvision recorder has started to randomly pause whilst playing divx files :(

Great to hear that kind of feedback from members. Very informative indeed. Thanks hairychad:D

My SumVision sometimes plays up like that with DivX johnnypanic  Still records/plays DVDs fine though ;)

I was going to order this DVD recorder from amazon.co.uk for £104.78 but luckily I saw it at Tesco for less than £70! Lesson learned. Next time I must remember to check this site when doing my research.

I brought it to replace a broken VCR, as this DVD recorder is only slightly more expensive than a new video recorder.

Although this is one of the lower-priced DVD recorders, I am familiar with Lite-On as a major manufacturer of CD/DVD drives for computers, so I have more confidence in them than a Goodmans, Bush or similar brand.

So far so good. I've recorded programs using the supplied DVD+RW disc, as well as a branded DVD+R disc and they work fine. The difference in picture quality compared to a video tape is amazing!

One good point with this DVD recorder is that it can record using DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. I noticed that some low-priced DVD recorders support either the + or - formats, not both.

My only main gripe is that the channel scanning took a while, but it is important to wait for it to finish so that all the channels are located.

Overall, a great deal and I'm surprised that Tesco is so much cheaper than Amazon!

I've got one of these recorders (but not from Tescos:( )

When I switch it on it automatically switches to 4:3 even though I have selected the widescreen option for my tv. How do I fix this?

Also when playing divx films when I insert the disk it plays automatically the first film instead of giving me the option to what view folders/files on the disk. How do I fix this as well?

Thanks:)

Anyone got any answers to the above questions?

Hi James's Dad,

Did you try setting the aspect ratio to 16:9 from the setup menu?

Press the SETUP button on the remote and I think the aspect ratio setting is among the Playback options.

I don't know about divix, because I don't have any divix films. Did you try pressing the MENU button on your remote or perhaps pressing the NEXT button when the film is playing to go to the next section?

I've already changed the aspect ratio from the setup but it made no difference.
The recorder should show folders rather than just playing the first file it see's. I can advance to the film I want but I'd rather see the folders on the disk.

I've had this dvd recorder for a couple of weeks now, so I thought I'd give an update on my experiences.

Overall I'm very happy with the dvd recorder, having brought it as a replacement for my video recorder. However, there are a couple of niggles which I've discovered.

Firstly, when I play a recorded dvd on my pc or my other dvd player, there is a vertical black strip on the far right of the picture (screenshot attached http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=454069). This black strip does not appear when I play the dvd on the dvd recorder. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else experiences this (or not).

When I insert chapter marks manually while recording a program, these chapter marks are ignored by my other dvd player. Chapter marks which are inserted automatically aren't ignored.
