I have 4 of these . Well I have the Philip's spd2400 version which are just liteons. So I flashed em all to 1635s bout 2 years ago . Good burners for 360 and xbox as long as you update firmware to Latest otherwise they can suffer from Lead In problems where Toc is unreadable on certain drives.

These drives as mentioned above are 16x and 2 years old tech wise but still are great filler items if you are ordering something else for your computer and these drives work well from usb enclosure using Pl 3507 chipset.

199 of them left. I might buy another 3 so get em quick co's they will be Oos by tomorrow

I'll not vote cold as this is just my own point of view, but of the 5 Lite-On products I've ever had ALL of them are now bin fodder. I had a DVD recorder that played up since a week or 2 after I bought it, gradually getting worse. It would plar a disc one day, the next day nothing and OK again at a later date.

DVD burners (2 were rebadged as Sony) were hit and miss. Won't even pick up a disc now so replaced with a SATA Samsung.

I would have to think twice if they were 10p never mind £10!

Yet all 7 of my liteon writers are fine . I have 2 5006b home dvd recorders as well and the £99 one from argos was always a little dodgy but not the actual drive itself my 1635s drives produce nice burns though.

These drives are 3 years old but still work well

£14.78 with super saver delivery so not real good unless ordering with goods over £49.99

Same here ive got a brand new liteon sata drive slung in the cupboard i took it out of my one rig one time and as i unplugged the sata cable from the drive the connector came away with it i wasn't rough and remove stuff from my kit and customers pc's all the time. This is the first and only time this has ever happened to me and is the only liteon ive ever owned. Ive removed my pioneers which Ive had all versions and my samsungs 100s of times over the years aswell as sata HDD and this has never happened i would never buy another liteon drive even if they where the only writers on this earth and to be honest with delivery these are not really cheap.

You can get a samsung for around the same money or for an extra couple of quid get a pioneer which are the best drives you can buy.

Am I missing something?... Why would you need seven of these drives?

Different PC's.

I see... :whistling: Seems a little excessive?! Unless you're a seven strong family. Certainly if you are single with 7 pc's you'll never have a family!

Anyway, seems like an ok product at a good price. Have some heat!

Tried Liteon drives before and they can be very fussy about what they will read, prefer NEC and Pioneer myself for couple of quid more.

Voted hot. I like this brand (neved had a problem with their products). And yes, they are "budget" so there's no point to compare this product to a NEC or Pioneer drive.

There has been no proof to link computer radiation and infertility :p

Also I need all those writers as Rum is very expensive and wooden legs do not grow on trees you know. Well actually they sorta do but woodworm treatment is still a crippling ongoing expense.

Joking and assumptions aside I can have what I want without judgement thanks but just so you know I actually have over 50 dvd writers which I use to beta test Imgburn and all kinds of media / dye / etc (all paid for out of my own pocket with no subsidies from any manufacturer or disc manufacturer)

Nope

These drives are 3 years old burn at 16x (anything after that and tbh even 16x is a false number) considering where drives first started and times to burn to 4.37 gig

1x 64 mins
2x 32 mins
4x 16 mins
8x 8 mins ish
16x is not 4 minutes

Even 24x just makes 4.07 4.11 minute burns I have had few sub 3.58 3.59 burns @ 24x

To the poster who snapped the connector, that was 1 drive out of how many made it could happen to any drive.

Out of the box you can book type + R to DVD-ROM unlike the Samsung and Pioneer drives

Using ImgBurn you can get the Samsung to set DVD-ROM but they don't use normal standards to do so. I do not particularly like my Samsung writers I have 4 different models and each one is capable of producing and error whilst using dvd+r which renders disc useless ..Look out for PMA update failure when closing disc as in finalise and also track 1 is smaller on disc.. toc errors. This can happen with some of the very latest liteon writers but has never happened with my 1635s (spd2400) 20a1p,s is also fine but my 20a3p,s and my 20a4p have done it a few times on +r

Just before someone comes along and states drives 3 years ago had lightscribe... Yeah I know.

You can have some fun flashing as well creating a fast burn drive http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html

@ your own risk

6 broke?

Only kidding!?! :p

I guess the reason this is cheap is that it is IDE, not SATA.

Not much difference these days... IDE will probably be deare soon.

Try getting DDR1 memory now that DDR3 is mainstream!
