Seems like a great cheap price if you want blu-ray on your PC

The Lite-On DH-4O1S is a read-only device for all popular media formats, including Blu-ray discs. Besides Blu-ray discs, the drive can read DVD+/-R(W) and CD-R(W) media.

The DH-4O1S has a Serial ATA interface and reads BD-R/RE/ROM/SL/DL media at a maximum of 4X. Single Layer DVD ±R can be read at 12X, while Double Layer DVD±R and Single Layer DVD-±RW can be read at 8X. CD-R(W) can be read at a maximum speed of 32X.

Doesn't write DVDs but most people have a DVDRW already installed on their machines

This sounds good but I would need my dvd writer and my pc only has one bay.

Anyone know a good price for a blu-ray writer?

Heat btw.

If you don't get free shipping from scan, this is also an option.

With prices on Blu ray rom drives this low Sony surely cannot much longer hold out on the so called "costly" blu ray drives in the PS3 making the console price so high.

Hot price, shame it doesn't also support HD DVD as a combo drive, so you could rip the contents and have Hi Def rips from the best of both worlds.

This is OEM - so dont think it comes with blu=ray playback software. Can someone whose bought this confirm? Blu-ray playback s/w is not cheap!

try post #3 if that is an issue.

if you are thinking of buying this, make sure you really really need it, as these things are coming down in price very quickly. If you can wait 3-4 months you can pick up this drive for £30, and for £80 you should be looking at a blu ray writer.

Careful - this doesn't state its a DVD-RW which is odd but could be why it cheap?

I have found Lite-On stuff to be very poor quality of late. Had two dvd writers go bust from them in the last six months so that has put me right off.

It is possible i've just been unlucky.

Not really, this is a blu-ray computer drive so a lot of people are going to want one to read blu-ray data disks that will become increasingly common in the next few years. As there aren't many blu-ray disks around right now though it may be waiting a few months or a year until they get a bit more common. Of course, if your building a new media center system to play blu-ray movies then waiting doesn't make any sense.
#14
lol common .. blu-ray has been available for 2+ years already . i will get it this year and prices ARE falling ..but saying wait is a bad idea.... thwe only reason to wait on blu-ray is if your after a ps3 as thast thr main one. pc drives ........just buy now.. i remember buying a cd writer in a pc for 200 quid way back when. prices fall .. thats the nature of how things happen ..

its a decent price .. although teh lg blu ray / d player that also does cr writing is bertter .... even if its near 80 quid
#15
Nice to see prices coming down but I probably won't be buying until blu-ray writers are under £30.
#16
Only a matter of time when these will be sub £20. Writers will also be more affordable.

I disagree. You can't compare this type of product to a tv or any other well established/common/mass produced piece of electronic equipment. Blu-ray is still a relatively new and expensive technology. They aren't commonplace in your average home yet in the same way DVD/CD drives are. However, as the manufacturing costs to produce these Blu-ray drives rapidly decreases and demand for them rapidly increases you'll definitely see the retail prices fall by quite a lot over the next few months.

If you aren't going to be using this thing frequently then it really is worth waiting just a few more months before picking one up. I've voted hot since I think this it's a good deal for now but very soon that will change.
