Thank for your reply. I am asking this question because I have a speaker which takes power from the laptop head phone pin, is not working with Toshiba NB200 netbook but works with Dell vostro.
As this drive is also taking power from usb port, though of asking here before i order for one.
Thank you

Well if your usb ports do not give off power the netbook is broken. More over if you have no power from usb then the liteon will also not work.

You say you have a speaker that takes power from a headphone jack ?

Surely not. \the speaker must have it's own power supply somehow

I have a NB200.... only one of the 3 usb ports have enough power for this.... it had a "lightning" mark next to the port. On mine it's the single USB port on the left hand side as I look at it.

Depends how much power comes from the jack socket. They're called passive speakers. I bought some Sonys from Amazon for a couple of quid a few years ago which work quite well, better than the internal speakers on laptops/netbooks.

These are the same, but like I said, I only paid a couple of quid for them:-

No you can buy usb speakers that have a cheap soundcard built into them and uses some of the ports power to amplify the sound out.....

Nice find OP. Heat added

Bought one of these for my GF's Compaq Netbook. Well pleased with it.
Paid a bit more than this for it though... ho-hum

These come with a very short USB cable which can be stored in a recess underneath the unit, which makes it less easy to lose.

I don't see a problem with using it, as it's just plug and play - if you want to boot off of it (i.e. OS installations from CD/DVD media) then you would need to change the boot order via the netbook's BIOS (the external USB drive would need to be connected & powered on to allow this to be done).

Cheers, Scotty Boy!
