I quite fancy one of these, but can anyone who has one of these recommend it?

There's what looks like a decent review of it HERE, but it's over a year old.

Cheaper at Dabs where I recently purchased from, and even posted an offer which was largely ignored. At the time I posted they were offering free delivery. Currently - £23.98 inc delivery. Don't forget Quidco.

That is the DVD ROM version, no DVD±RW function!

Ive got one of the dvd rom only ones (ie no writing facility) and its great - only needs one usb socket for power which is handy on my palmtop. The writer will probably only require one usb port if you keep the write speed down to x4 as well

Yeah I saw that, and I was gonna get the DVD-ROM version as it's only for installing stuff onto an Acer netbook and Revo (which both have no optical drive).

But for the extra three or so quid, I opted for the DVD±RW version.

How do you find the DVD-ROM version Starman?

£29.99 at novatech, I have this drive and its good. much easier to take a disc out in case of a fault (i.e. no need to look for a paper clip etc.)

Your drive only reads, it doesn't write discs. Big difference...

It's a DVD-ROM not a DVD-RW, only reads DVDs! :)

Voted hot from me, seems a decent price.
Useful for mobile devices and as a back up.
DVD writers (along with PSUs) are the components that always seem most likely to burn out (literally).

Did you read any posts in the thread? The answer was in post No. 3. DVD Rom only, not a writer. :)

Good price for me. Come in handy for those with a netbook.

Is the Aldi USB CD/DVD writer a recent/current Aldi deal? I can't find any info online and the guy in my local Aldi store was clueless.

The one I seen today was £49.99, which is really quite expensive.

Anyone know if these work on Macs (OSX 10.6)?
