I've been itching for that to come back myself.

I remember at one point they had some of the Bond films, and Die Hard films also.

Kicking myself now, because I never got round to ordering them.

Quick question...do these (old films) actually look HD? Or they just upscaled and just slightly better looking than the older films. I'm asking because I've only seen new films on Blu-Ray.

Film is actually a higher resolution than 1080p, so yes, these old films do look HD. Just watch A Clockwork Orange and you'll see how good they can look!

The only proviso is you should read a review of the blu-ray conversion to check that it is a good one. Film degrades over time and some movies need restoring before the conversion - the ones that aren't are GENERALLY the ones you might need to be wary of. (But then the restoration can be done badly as well, so this is where a good review comes in handy!)

'Old films' which were shot on film have infinitely more resolution detail than any HD captured content currently available.

It's what they [the studios] do when they 'process' it which governs how well the image is transferred to bluray. The images are digitally captured and 'enhanced' to remove dust blemishes etc though some can go overboard on the 'cleaning up' with digital noise reduction and the like.

Best to read a review of any particular Bluray you may be interested in, to get the lowdown.....Also be aware that film grain - if that's the way the director intended it - is not a degradation in quality....

Even relatively new movies can get poor transfers due to a studio's over indulgence with their DNR systems. A new BR release the other day - Gladiator - is a case in point...Just check out any review.

EDIT

Oops! Too late...I got waylaid before posting my reply LOL :p
