I Know what you mean. I used them once. Games were badly packaged and cases were damaged. Only paid £3.50 for two games so wasnt going to kick up a fuss. You get what you pay for I think. A lot of these games are really old so dont expect the condition to be spot on!

Stores do look pretty dodgy

when you order online some times you don,t get the games manuals which apparently is in there sales agreement or so i,v been told by them when complaining

These shops just fence stolen goods that the local crack heads have nicked

Last time I picked up a game in there the box was damaged where the security seal had been cut out from where it had been shoplifted!!!!!!! and then sold on.

So not just me then who notices all the smack rats!! There was me thinking I was being snobby!!

I've seen quite a few arguments in there when staff have refused to accept obviously stolen phones.
Feel sorry for the staff who get the abuse.

Thats the sweat smell in the shop, its the distinct smell of a clucking addict waiting for his hard earned cash !!!

might have a look.

The druggies - smackheads - shop there (or rather fence their stolen goods there for more heroin anyway)

Saw HMV having a few titles near this price. Mirrors Edge was £2.98 !

anyone else hate the fact that they always play loud grunge type music? and the students who work there...in my local, they always have loads of ppl behind the counter but they just take ages to serve you.

Not a great place to shop at all, from the general 'type' they attract makeing it out with your mobile phone and your wallet is counted as a good shopping trip :)

Hah CEX isnt that bad, if you don't like the clientel, move out your area :P

Online is normally quick devliery and these days most game manuals are just a few pages about controls - no big deal if its not included!

Edit: HAH, I can't believe the word I was trying to use is censored.

Never had a problem online or at the local shop :o)

I don't recommend using them online, for a plethora of reasons. All prices are valid in-store too and you can inspect your purchase before you buy if you've got any reservations about the condition of the disc/box/manual.

I don't know where these statements about the smell at CEX come from though. Nothing wrong with the Sutton/Croydon/Tottenham Court Road branches I've visited over the years.

Voted hot for the deal, but personally will not order from them online as I have in the past and never received my order. I then found it impossible to get in touch by phone.

I got a refund in the end but it was more hassle than it should've been and It turned out that they never even posted anything to me in the first place.

Great bargains to be had in store but avoid ordering on-line.

I personally wouldn't want to support pre-owned games, they are always in horrible condition if you wish to keep them.

If you're thinking of buying used, rent the game. If you want it to keep, buy it new.

I do like the Cex shop, for games its is great, reckon I have saved a bundle over the years.

However, I would say be careful when buying hardware, I have had a number of items from them that seem to work fine, but within a few weeks they have been "blocked" as reported as being lost / stolen (phones / kindle).

But yeah for games I think they are great.

The amount of times I have bought online at Grade A to be told its clearly grade B at another store at trade in...

I went there for the first time today (Solihull) , it was grimy and did stick of chavs.

I had to have a shower afterwards. With bleach. And wire wool.

Picked up a stack of games for my new xbox though so can not grumble. Pretty sure there was a meth lab out back though

I agree the middle/upper class students working in these stores always seem to play terrible metal and have tattoos . Perhaps they just want to appear hard and working class so they get these cheap tattoos eat loads of food and pierce anywhere that might seem a little shocking before eventually becoming a teacher and having all piercings and tats removed then calling their kids Rupert and Hermione .

I bought 6 pc games of which 4 of them couldn't be read with my dvdrw drive and had to write to blank DVD/cd and only got to get 1 of them to install .also bought 2 blu rays, 1 was fine with no scratches or marks and played fine but the other had a huge scratch on it and would only play uptill 20 odd minutes till the end when it wouldn't play anymore. From my experience I would never buy online from them but If you have a store nearby it mabye worthwhile as you can inspect the discs when purchased.I've noticed a lot of people won various deals on this site stating that blu rays are unscratchable and scratch resistant, some people will believe anything that they're told

Personally I never buy from CEX, especially there overpriced hardware, but I have sold some stuff to them.
Good deal for some cheap gaming tho.

Just for the record my local CEX also stinks of sweat and there is always atleast 3 staff behind the desk but it takes forever to be served. Also they are not just fences for stolen goods but also vultures preying on the desperate and the stupid.
e.g.
So you want an iPad?
Trade in a shitload of stuff which we will mark up 100% top it up with what little cash you have and we will give you this second hand iPad that hasn't got a box and comes with a 3rd party charger/USB cable and that is also priced up at MORE than RRP for new.

Awful shop, music so loud you can't hear yourself think let alone talk to staff.

Wow, I hope some of the ridiculously judgemental comments on here are meant to be humorous. Maybe in a couple more weeks when the 'goodwill to all men' part of Christmas kicks in...

I think that a lot of comments on here are over judgemental on CEX. In my experience, any shop that attracts gatherings of "ga(y)mers" tend to stink of BO and dogbreath!! I think that these people only over pop out fo their bedrooms to scavenge for the new COD or WOW!!

That said, these shops really need a resident Police Officer, the sickly, pasty faced druggies are blatantly obvious. These people are making others lives a misery and shops like CEX and "StashConverters" are helping. It doesnt take a brain surgeon to decide if the "zombie" in stained stinking clothes may actually be the owner of the spanking new BluRay player he's trying to fence.... I mean, trade in!!!

They only seem to have the stores in dumps anyway. As with Cash converters. Glad everyone sees through it for what it is. Still its cheap so if you disinfect what you buy. Surely the discs will be damaged beyond use though ?

Well you never know, the poor bankers might need to cash in their TV's, after all, their bonuses have been slashed..... Oh no thats right, they were going to be slashed but then our fantastic Govt decided to REWARD them for cocking up the finances for the whole country!!

CEX is always an interesting talking point however somethings are true.

1. The Majority of stores are run by a bunch of morons, with bad attitudes and play terrible music.
2. The majority of stores are full of very dodgy people trying to flog stuff.
3. The online site is far better and has some great deals. Ok sometimes you wont get what you pay for, but stock is limited and sometimes the staff cant be bothered to check for stock - thats life.

Some say use the store, i say use the site. the stuff is generally fine and it can save you the bother of going to the store which for me costs £6 on the bus so that is saved also worrying about getting home with all the stuff you have bought is a real worry. i have had that happen i the past so i would never visit the stores again.

Also sending stuff in for cash online is very easy. courier it for £7, they get it next day and usually pay the same day. whole process is 4 days, about the time you will wait for service in a store.

as for these games it is a good deal, i mean in general these games are very old and people want the latest items so arent bothered about getting pennies for them. just know that when you have finished with the game, youre stuck with it as cex will give you so little its not worth the hassle.

also i have noticed from buying new items that they are in mint conditon so even if its those druggies selling, they at least dont drop stuff on the boxes lol.

but seriously though not everyone selling to them is on crack or whatever. i dont drink, smoke or do drugs and i regularly send them brand new games and blurays that i have only unsealed to send to them. now where those games and blurays come from or the price i pay is irrelevant, the prices cex charge for new stuff is very good, as long as its not something in big demand like a new game.

case in point, i just got the new WWE Chris Jericho 3 disc set from them. it was inn absolute mint condition, and it had only been out in shops for about 3 weeks and costs £18, but they were selling for just £12. that dvd set will never be sold that cheap new, or if it is then it will be many years. so someone sold that dvd to them for £6 cash or £8 credit. i want to find that guy and give them the cash myself lol.

but yeah if i ever win the lottery i am considering buying a CEX franchise. but mine would be different, run by me and my family, no crappy music and if you look dodgy then no purchase, or an offer of credit only.

Don't you mean 'these shops need a Resident Evil Police Officer' lol - especially with all those zombies.

But yeah, I agree. The CEX shop in my town is exactly the same. 5 staff behind the counter - 1 serving and 4 sorting through CD's or busy doing nothing. They also play loud music (as does Gamestation) and have a few games which are 2nd hand but are marked up dearer than you could buy the game new.

cex just really don't seem to give a crap about the quality of the stuff they sell. i once made the mistake from buying three games from them online - prey, gears of war and perfect dark zero. prey and gears of war were so badly scratched they didn't play, and perfect dark zero was scratched so it wouldn't play the singleplayer past the second level, and the case for it was utterly destroyed.

voted cold. if you're gonna buy from them, do it in a shop where you can then point out something is scratched to hell.
