This offer was in store about 3 weeks ago, was tempted but I tried one of these and could not get on with the keypad. DAB radio is fab (kills the battery in 4 hours or so), runs tomtom mobile 5 as well. Check out www.modaco.com forums for info on this phone.

The guy in store told me you get the 100 minutes the first month and the other 100 minutes the second month (might be different for this online deal).

He also said that when you purchase you get £5 credit & two vouchers for the 200 minutes which according to him are worth £70 (200 minutes x 35p).

Hope that might be helpful to someone!

Just Watch out for the small print
As far as I can see, without printing the whole details
The free stuff is only available for 90 days or so, then you need to pay

Watch TV is free for 90 days on Pay As You Go.
BBC One is available until at least October 2007
Mobile TV isn't available in N. Ireland

Virgin Mobile is the only operator to offer a TV phone on PAYG, as far as I know. It's also probably the cheapest on the market, most likely by far.

Nice find. I'd be cautious regarding the small print (what happens after 90 days? what about BBC1 beyond October?), but voted hot regardless.
#9
thanks kiddson.got one anyway.a mobile 200 minutes, and telly for 3 months for 42 quid.heck you can give it away after 90 days for that price.

Does look good, I've seen the TV working in a Virgin store and it was impressive, as stated above, TV is free for three months on Pay As You Go, then a fiver a month. Or you can get the phone and TV for free if you sign up to a £15 a month 12 month contract.

Offer is still running in my local Virgin store by the way.
#11
Fiver a month is not bad, IMO. Prices will fall with stiff competition.

Isnt BBC1 free always ?
#12
I have this phone (and wish I didn't pay double this for it a few months ago!!!) and it's not a bad little phone.

I love my phones as anyone who knows me knows, so this one I keep in the office and just use it for the DAB radio, and I used to use it for the TV, but this was only to listen to Jeremy Kyle, not watch! :D

As mentioned, the radio drains the battery like there's no tomorrow. Still, I'm lucky enough to be sat right next to a plug socket, so I use that as and when needed.

As for the TV, I was under the impression just like Edi that BBC1 is free up until October at least. But it appears we are wrong. I have tried to connect to BBC1 thinking it would work, but it doesn't and it comes up with a message saying I need to update/renew my license. £5 a month isn't bad, but in effect, it means BBC1 isn't free, unless I'm going about it all the wrong way.

I can't see it possible to buy a spare battery sadly, otherwise this could be a great phone and deal.
#13
Thanks T8RSP :)

Ahh... forgot all about TV license although you may not need one separately if you have an existing license.
#14
From what I've read, you ahve to download the license and if you're downloading the BBC license then that should be free. I'm only going by what I read on the website mentioned earlier in the thread though. I believe you're also charged for downloading the licenses via GPRS, which is the only way to download the license.
#15
a normal tv license or do you need a special license for mobiles?
#16
Postage is £2.99 btw.

I was going to make this my first 'deal' post, darn you! :p

I actualy ordered this yesterday, from the virgin website thinking what a bargain it was for £50 ! Given that its a smart phone running windows mobile 5, a dab radio!, and a tv. It can also be unlocked for £20 online apparently, and also application unlocked so i can put other programs on it like Tom Tom hopefully.

Anyway, canceled the order , and re ordered through Quidco, and using the 20% discount posted elsewhere! - so instead of paying £52.99 i paid £42.99 (and then should get another £8 via quidco) which brings it to £34.99!! - for a smartphone!!, What a bargain.

The BBC Tv channels are free, but they are brodcasting as a trial so may stop brodcasting their channels to the mobile after October.

Also when its sim unlocked apparenly the DAB radio works perfectly not certain about the TV but from what ive read the BBC channels will work as long as you intermitantly download virgins liscence file.

UPDATE:

Just a quick update, recieved an e-mail saying problem with payment so had to phone up and re-order the phone (no idea why there was a problem as definatly entered card details correctly)

Also the phone does not come with a pay as you go sim (thats £10 extra apparently) , dont know if thats because i used a discount code or if thats standard for virgin phones. (does come with 200 free minutes to use with a virgin sim though)

If I remember correctly you can't, but with the Virgin sim you get £5 credit anyway, so just make/ take a call every 90 days I think. You may be able to switch the phone mode off, but yo need a sim in it.

Just ordered online, used the voucher code, and went via quidco - all appeared ok, however received email saying problem with taking payment and to call them :(
If the deal does go through then it should cost £34.98 including delivery !!!
Just wonder if the payment failed means no quidco?

As I mentioned earlier, I had the exact same problem.

I think it probably has somthing to do with either quidco, or using the voucher code (I dont know if it detects your using both quidco and the voucher code, and works out that they will prob end up losing money from the sale)

When you phone up they wont take your order number (or dident with me) and end up creating a whole new order, at the same price, but obviousley wont include quidco I guess, which sucks. - Still a great deal though I think.

Great, got mine for £32.98 (with £10 upgrade). Also went via quidco. Didnt use other voucher though. Great price. Not as pretty as my current phone, but great to use up free mins then use for dab and tv. Thanks
#32
somebody mentioned it has sat nav/would take tom-tom mobile, maybe it will load tom-tom but from what I can see in the specs/reviews the phone does NOT have a GPS receiver, has GPRS which is quite different....if so this can't be used as a sat nav, tom-tom or not.

Cracking phone all the same/ordered/voted hot.

Correct, but I don't use my phone that much. I spend about £5 pm, until I go abroad & get hammered! I estimate that it's taken me over 2 years to clock this amount up.

BTW for the non Virgin customers - how about getting the 6 months contract for free via cash back - see post by paperclip http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60121&highlight=virgin

Your prob refering to my post. - It runs windows mobile 5, and if it can be aplication unlocked (which it apparently can) - you should be able to install tom tom 5 on it.

I use an external bluetooth gps reciever. As most people would have to do with tom tom installed on their phones.

When used with an external bluetooth gps reciever it should be able to work as a sat nav fine (i have Tom Tom working on my current nokia phone with it)

just ordered one ..thanks for the post:)

Hi, I can not find an 'Upgrade' option when I log into my account, can you explain where it is? Thanks.
#37
Ok when you log in - click on 'check this account'. Then go down to red is for rewards. If you have an upgrade amount it will take it off at the final price - it seems the phone is a tenner cheaper if you have an account anyway.
#38
Just placed an order again (original failed using voucher/quidco), this time used a debit card and it has gone through :)
Did call them and they said that the bank declined the transaction (which is rubbish).
Does this come with a SIM?
Says "Virgin Mobile joining pack"
#39
Maybe that's why it's a tenner cheaper if you're with Virgin already
#40
This thing is 140g weight ! Thats pretty heavy for a mobile.

Are there more TV / DAB phones coming out this year ? I may be tempted to wait for a lighter model thats not like a brick.
