This is my first post so be gentle.

I realise that it may be unusual to post a deal before it happens but starting on Fri 13th, B&Q will be offering Triple layer loft insulation. Previous price £50. Subsidised price £3. The deal is in connection with British Gas. Apparently there are huge subsidies in the domestic energy saving sector.

I suspect it will be in store only. First come, first served. Maximum 15 packs per customer. ( 9 packs is enough for a typical size home).

These will go very quickly..

Blue1878: B&Q do cavity wall insulation (all house sizes from what I can see) for £199. Use Quidco and you get an extra 6% back = £187.06. That's my plan when I scrape the cash together.

there are subsidies towards cavity wall insulation available, company called Dyson did ours (NE England)
maybe someone on here has a bit more info?

Just had our walls done for £99, could of got the loft done as well for another £99, but ours is fully boarded and i couldn't be bothered in taking them all up. The £99 was a goverment funded price for south birmingham area. But to be honest i haven't noticed any difference at all since having the walls done.

rep to you both you kind people, i live in liverpool north west so hopefully i can find a company or scheme that could help with the insulation, if not i will have to save up and go to B&Q etc

does anyone know of any schemes in north west that pay or help with insulation and also does anyone know what mess is created when this gets done in your home would there be damage or holes etc etc

Great Thanks
#12
Contact your council... some subsidise them and others pay for them doing (I know it doesnt cost you for loft insulation, cavity walls and you can also get a carbon monoxide tester for free with Kirklees Council)
#13
Hi guys can this stuff actually be dangerous to the body?

Is that true?
banned#14
OP....you work there or something? how do you know about this deal?
#15
Just out of interest, what is "triple layer loft insulation" ? Key it into the BnQ search box and you get a list of "Garage in a box" entries.

I went through the loft insulation entries and couldn't find anything with that description nor anything at or around £50 a roll. Just thought I'd ask

I've never bought loft insulation before, nor have I seen them in stores so here's my question...

How big are these packs? Am I going to need a transit van to shift 9 packs? :)

They are about 5ft tall and quite bulky, you would be luck to get 3 in an ordinary car! So yes something transit sized
#17
Very HOT (geddit) deal, heat and warmth added ;-)
#18
Every builder/loft insulator & his dog will be snapping them up.

For people on benefits - try warm front, or goto-

http://www.foundations.uk.com/hiasearch.aspx and see contacts in your area for home improvements.

Good price, heat & rep added.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to see if my nearest branch can let me reserve me some so that I can do 2 or 3 trips if I can't find someone with a large enough vehicle to do it in one go

good deal although if this is because of subsidies, I guess they'll be similar offers elsewhere?
#22
Is this nation wide (ie. I'm in Scotland) and where did you get this information from?

You should definitely wear a mask and gloves as it will irritate the skin and it's not pleasant to breath in lots of the fibres. But there is no evidence there is a long term health risk from exposure to glass mineral wool.

If I was doing the job I would normally wear a paper boiler suit too so you don;t get the stuff stuck in your clothes. You get really hot dragging rolls of fibreglass around in your loft dressed up in a boiler suit and gloves, so there's no better time to do it than in the middle of winter!

Your probably losing most of your heat through the roof then.

is this different to the £198 offer online? heat added8-)8-)

The reason I heard about is that I was about to purchase a few packs of insulation at a nearby store when a very kind assistant told me not to buy it. He said wait till next week and come back then.

He told me that that there was a great deal on the way (£50 down to £3). I don't have any other information about the product other than it was described as Triple layer. Sounds thick to me.

I then called another local store to comfirm the deal. They said that the packs were arriving today Wednesday) but were not available to buy until Friday.

Note This deal is not available for TRADE customers.

That is as much as I know.

Store in question was in Scotland

all this si great my plan is to get into loft ASAP before fri check what state it in if it needs more insulation then i will measure up for how many rolls i need (terraced 2 bed pre-war),

then hopefully i will make it to B&Q for some £3 rolls bargains haha although i dont finish work till 5pm :'(

then i will get that fited in loft and start saving and looking for cavity wall insulation to finisht he project with either help from council or cheap as poss deal from B&Q or alike.

just worried there wont be anything left on fri by time i get there DAMN!!!!

I hope this is true op but surely we should all learn from being
taken in before ( ps3 asda deal etc! ) just my opinion but I will
not vote either way until I see it myself ( or see some proof, sorry
but I have been "stung" before for plenty of wasted trips to deals
that never existed! ) )
VERY hot though if it is and a brilliant first post, welcome to HUKD

If you need proof. All you need to do is call your local B&Q. It may be Scotland only I don't know. I am only telling you what I was told.
#33
Blue1878: The Energy Saving Trust have a "grant finder" that lets you search fro all possible grants for use against insulation, heating etc. Have a look and good luck finding something useful.

Hi, I jave just called B Q in Stevenage and the lady said she doesnt know anything about that deal :-(
#35
Fab deal, can imagine what the queues will be like in B&Q on Friday!!

Nor mine Salisbury

42" Plasma TVs reduced from £699 to £25 next Wednesday. Hot or what??

This may well be a genuine deal, but there is nothing anywhere to substantiate it, so why is everyone going ape?

It may be restricted to Scotland or this one particular store or maybe the assistant was just "avin a larf".

What's the point of voting one way or the other until it is actually a deal?
#38
B&Q were doing 3 rolls of loft insulation before xmas for £10 ,so guess 1 roll for 3 quid could be correct!
