I went to my local pc world yesterday looking for a bargain on a sunday afternoon and I came across this player reduced from £79.97 to £49.97. It has profile 1.1 but the box says upgradable to BD live via CD. I asked one of the staff and he did not have a clue so he opened the box and there was no CD inside it so i decided not to buy it. I went home and googled the upgrade file and found it straight away so i went today and bought the blueray player..it took me 5 minutes to upgrade it to profile 2 and it is working brilliantly. when i bought mine there were about 4 new and one display players left...Excellent deal IMO....this deal was very hot few months ago when the price was £99 http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/373482/logik-blu-ray-player-pc-world-99-99

Saw one of these in the Telford store yesterday for the same price, but they only had the display one left.

At the moment this one can't be made region free for DVDs and Blu Rays, but hopefully will be after the next Firmware upgrade

I'll bet these will be difficult to find. Store specific stock updates might be handy :) Will probably go look for one as a Christmas present.

Good deal, nice to see that the price of BD players is starting to significantly fall.

Whats the going rate for a PC BD drive these days?

About the same price,£50.
#15
do you think there would be a big difference in a logik BD player and say a sony or panasonic one?
#16
They're digital and progressive. It might take longer to load the disc and start to play, but playback should be as good as anything else and more likely let down by the TV used than anything.

Blue Ray is a total rip off.
The quality isn't much better than an upscaling dvd player, and the discs...how come for something that can hold so much data they still need the same number discs as normal dvd ?
Band Of Brothers fits on to 6 dvds. The whole series should fit on to 2 Blue Ray discs, yet it's still a 6 disc blue ray set. Then again, who would pay £xxx for 2 discs when you can 6 discs for the same price ?
Absolute rip off,the only good thing about BD is the recording capabilities.

I dont think its a rip off. With films like Band Of Brothers, the audio is uncompressed on Blu Ray compared to compressed on DVD. But you less you have the right sound system your not going to notice the difference.Same situation if you dont have a HDTV which supports 100hz, it hardly wont look any different from an upscaled DVD.
Im sure the Blu Ray version has alot more extras than the DVD version even though they are the same amount of discs.

no..the one i bought is LBD 1000..I dont know what is the difference as reading the item discription matches the features on the LBD1000 i bought. I watched a bit of Casino Royale last night on 50" full HD samsung TV (yes..the deal from bennetts electricals) and the picture was stunning...I am normally fussy about the makes of the equipment i buy but if i can get good quality from a £50 player..why not? at least until the samsung blueray sound bar I am after come down from its current price (£699)
#20
Actually the LBD1000 looks better as it does not have the ugly Logik sign at the front panel...actually it is not there any where on the player which gives it more expensive feel....and btw..this player has the capability of outputing 7.1 surround sound

No offence dude, but a Samsung and a pc world own brand! Only the likes of Sony / Panasonic /Pioneer etc count as proper brands.. :)

fab deal - just need the blu-ray discs to drop in price too!

There is nothing wrong with samsung as a brand and some of their stuff is more expensive than sony and panasonic...actually i think they are more reliable than others...my widescreen CRT sony TV packed up just after the 5 years warrantty has expired (cost me £1200 on those days)...now i bit you that a samsung TV will last much longer..i take your point about Logik but i explained my LOGIC about that:thumbsup:

Weird that your looking at a deal for a blu ray player if its such a rip off :whistling:

Why would it fit on 2 discs when the sound and video is at a much higher standard it takes upmore space? Band of Brothers BR also has picture in picture commentries for EVERY episode and interactive guides for every episode, these things take up space as well.

Also since Play is selling that particular series for £15.99 on DVD or £15.99 on BR can't really see how thats a rip off in anyones books since the BR has more content :?

Perhaps try doing some research before trolling??

I would say yes...

I've had a couple of pieces of LOGIK tech over the last few years and they have all suffered terminal failures. I'm never surprised to see LOGIK stuff on the clearance shelves.

Haven't had a BD player from them so can't comment on this item specifically but in my experience they aren't the best in terms of build quality and I'd defo spend a few extra quid and get a Sony, Panasonic, Sammy etc.

Depends if you're fussed if it lasts a few years or a couple of months I guess...

Blimey! You've clearly never watched a Blu-Ray on a 50" 1080p screen and then watched it's DVD equivelent on the same setup - the difference is astonishing! Anyone would think you worked for Toshiba... ;-)

Blu-Ray material is encoded at a much higher resolution than DVD (ie. 1920x1080 pixels compared to 768x576 pixels) so the shear amount of data is vastly higher. It's all relative - Blu-Ray encoded movies take up considerably more space so a higher capacity data carrier was required.

Hello, just wondering whether you can use the usb port to view any video files( maybe divx) in hd, or even at all. I think i read somewhere that it has divx support even though its not mentioned on the packaging. Can anyone confirm.

Yes, it does play divx after you do the official firmware upgrade  It won't play .mkv files though, and I'm not sure about divxHD.

None at derby store or anywhere local (other than next model up which £100). Sales person says no stock for either the 1000 or 1100 is showing up anywhere.

You need to get down to you local opticians mate. Get your eyes checked out.. I'm serious.

None in Warrington or Stoke - I checked individually. I was also told there's 'none on the system anywhere' but that it's 'maybe possible there's one in a box somewhere that's not been entered but I'd really doubt it'.

I spent a while talking to the PC World staff who were friendly and spent a while looking. I think they've all gone.

sorry but i forgot to mention that the store i bought from was PC world shirley-birmingham

Lol I did the same. All the PC world staff seemed tied up and I didn't feel too bothered to wait and ask. Would no doubt not want the ex display model as they never seem to reduce ex display stuff enough IMO.

Got some of those 3 litre blue storage boxes for 99p that were posted here a while back though.
