I need a wireless pack but is there a deal without scrolling wheel or do all wireless mouse have them. Since using the optical I much prefer it so I'm hesitant about going back to a wheel.

The 'Scrolling Wheel' is the middle button which allows you to scroll up and down pages quickly. It's an optical, not a ball mouse, if that's what you're asking.

The optical is the laser on the bottom of the mouse which controls where the pointed goes (this replaces the old ball) the wheel is placed on top of the mouse to scroll pages...

It's not a laser, it's a CCD camera with a light.^_^; The light brightens up the surface allowing all the scratches/grain etc in the surface to be easily visible to the camera which takes hundreds of photos per second and everytime a change in the surface is detected it knows which way to move the mouse. There are true laser mice out now too, not to be confused with one another .

I am using this keyboard and mouse set atm (got it last month from amazon for about £15) I can't say yet about the lifespan of batteries but the reciever is RF, keyboard takes 2x AAA & mouse takes 2x AA. Also the mouse seems to have no auto-off function so I take one of the batteries out when I'm not using it.
