Agreed, fantastic piece of kit, the best 30 quid you will spend.

Have two of them from 1-2yrs ago at c£35-£40 (and friends have 555/515 models) and 100% recommend the Harmonies.

The 515 was £18.99 at play.com but is now up to £24.99.

Note: although Logitech refuses to support Linux (as usual), a clever chap has reverse-engineered the protocol and the resulting "congruity" application works in exactly the same way as the official software, and is a one-click install in Ubuntu.

Can somebody please tell me how well these work with regards to supporting all the different functions on your devices? I have Sky+ and a Samsung 50" Plasma.. will I lose any functionaility by replacing those remotes with this one?

Hi mate, i am by no means an expert on these, but i have the 515 (bought from Play), and i would say you will lose NO functionality!

The standard settings the Logitech remotes have for thousands of devices is normally pretty complete, and something as common as Sky is well covered. I too have a Samsung 50" plasma, and no problems at all. Button layout may be bit different, but thats it, lol!

On top of that, if there are any functions the remote doesn't know, you can 'teach' the Logitech remote them from using your standard remote (i.e. Sky remote or TV remote), which in effect means it can learn ANY command, for ANY device!

Hope this helps, cheers!

I have a harmony and it has replaced all the remotes, Sky HD, TV, DVD and Amp.

If you only had Sky and TV I would just use the Sky remote and configure it to control the TV. However you will probably also have a DVD/Blueray player and the sky remote won't control that. So thats when the Harmony takes over and can control all the devices.

I bought this from Play.com last year when it was cheap.

Controls everything from my TV, BD player, V+, Xbox 360, Hi Fi seperates, iPod dock. The best thing is not having to change inputs on your LCD/Plasma. If you buy the IR receiver, it can control your PS3 too.

I love it.

I got the 515 for £16.99 from play.com and think it is superb, other than being cosmetically nicer does anyone know what is better about this one?

heat added by the way!

Hmmm, im contemplating whether to buy this

I have a Samsung LE26A456C2D LCD TV, a Cambridge Audio A500 amplifier and a Sony DVP-NS718H dvd player and on the Logitech website the compatibilty checker says all 3 is supported by this remote...hmmm...i guess its logical to have 1 remote to control everything and only have 1 set of batteries to replace...nice find OP!!!
#12
It does so much more than that. It has "activities" such as "watch TV" or "play a video game" which switch on and off everything that's needed or not, select sources, etc.
#13
I got this remote a few weeks ago from play for £18. Good for the money.

It's got most if not all the buttons, and it automatically map most of them, mixing them up to suit your needs (eg volume left as the TV's volume, but others Sky+). And the LCD panel gives you any other less-used buttons, or you can as others have said "learn" them anyway and allocate them to the LCD panel.

The clever thing is that you can set up "Activities" which amount to "keystroke sequences" (ie "macros" or "command sequences" or "mini-programmes") so that the LCD display next to a button shows "watch DVD" and pressing that will make sure the TV is on and the DVD is on and TV is set to DVD input and beyond that leave it to your imagination - eg could play or could open tray for a DVD or if you do have a surround system it could swap thats input to its DVD optical input at the same time or whatever. If that sounds complex don't worry the Logitech software SUGGESTS most of those things for you once you've told it what makes/models you have and how they are wired together AND then runs through a wizard to configure it AND they even give you a freephone number for if you do get stuck!

I see they have now done more curvaceous higher # models - hence I guess why these "older" models are cheaper than they have been for some time - but there''s not much wrong with the 5nn range!

Have a look through their website:

I've got the 525 - brilliant remote loads of features - mine cost around £40 from Amazon a year ago.

These remotes are awesome got one to replace the 7 other remotes i have lying around for various equipement, so handy and so many functions on it well worth a purchase if you dont have one
#18
It looks exactly like the picture shown...

The functionality of this remote is very good, but it is also extremely flimsy and fiddly to operate. At £30 it is great value, but I only use mine as an "emergency backup" due to poor build quality.
#20
I have a 525 and I use it to control my Pc (media functions), DVD, bluray, TV, Amp, Sky, Alarm clock and even my air cooler unit. These are without a doubt the best remote control you can get, and after using one for a while will wonder why you hadnt sooner.

free delivery code anywhere?

Just had a quick mess with mine, set up a few basic activities.

Bloody hell it's good, why has it taken me so long to get one.

Just need to find a big enough cupboard for all the spare remotes now!

Picked up one this morning from RS in Sheffield as I have been looking to get one for yonks. I am lucky that RS is just round the corner.

I have bought it to control my LCD TV and media centre pc (replace the crappy haugpauge remote). It works with my Haugpauge IR receiver which is lucky because I sold my MS IR receiver on ebay a few months ago due to the MS remote going bust. I couldn't believe how many people contact me to buy the MS receiver - now I know that people need it for one of these remote.

Does anyone know how to remap the keys for media centre?

Had one of these for about a year - it is amazing - have got the PS3 adaptor (not cheap) and it just makes contorling everything (Sky+ HD, Sony TV/S Sound/PS3) so easy - one click to down evrything on or off - a dream - highly recommended ;-)

Yes, but £29.95 if you pick it up from the shop. I reserved mine in Nottingham and picked it up just now. Result!

I will go buy one of these tomorrow, after much delibaration after my last post i have made up my mind :-D

Plus i love RS as they have a store conveniently located near to where you live. I bought my cambridge audio hifi separates from RS in 2001 and 'touchwood' the setup is still going strong now without a hiccup.

I have always recommended RS to my friends and family to buy their hifi needs from them.

I use Intelliremote to remap the buttons to do what I want them to do within windows.

Anyone know if this works with the new Samsung Virgin v+ HD boxes?
#33
Damn! I spent loads this week thanks to HUK!

Can't get on the website, anyone else having the same problem?

Bargain thankd

Going to get mine 2mw!

The configuration will drive you nuts. I don't think I've ever honestly answered "yes" to the question 'Is everything the way you want it?' at the end of the set up.

I've spent hours, days even, getting all my devices into the remote and it STILL doesn't work flawlessly. I always have to use the Help function to sort things.

Don't get me wrong - it is a great Universal Remote, but in my experience even after spending time configuring it, it's never been 100% working.
#38
I have an acer revo set up with boxee. Haven't bothered to get an IR receiver for it yet, haven't even looked into it. Would this be a good purchase?
#39
I went to buy 2 from their website and the postage is £6.99 per remote. Ouch.
I double checked by adding more remotes and each time I added one the postage went up £6.99. I was surprised as I would normally say they are a no nonsense company but this is complete BS.

I've had this for about 2 years - it's a total pain in the arse, and my wife can't be arsed with it.

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't - you usually have to go through "help" to get things working, the automatic set-up is completely pointless becuase you still have to go in and point your normal remote at it to pick up the command.

It's very, very useful for things you've lost remote controls to.
It works far better in Device mode (controlling one device), than it does in Activity mode (controlling many at once).
It's probably worth this price...but don't expect perfection, it will frustrate you as much as please you.
