great find, I got one of these a few weeks ago for around £60. Incredibly easy to setup and use. Good find.

Does this work with SKY (Pace box) and SKY+ boxes ?

Is there a list of all the devices it works with?
#7
This works with my Sky+, you actually use a tool on the Logitect website to configure the software. You tell the software model numbers for all your pieces of kit and how you want to control the activities. For example, when playing a dvd is your sound controlled by your TV or your amp?...once everything is configured you plug the controller into the usb port and the software copies the details to the remote. Simple.

Like I said, it works for me....no complaints over here

With vat and delivery it cost £45.04......

Hmm, just looking at this it seems to say £45.04ex vat ? But it looks like the vat has already been added on. Could someone please verify if the £45.04 price is with vat included please.

The 885 is on pixmania too at £99 which is the cheapest I could find it by miles :)

That is a better buy IMHO
#12
What would people reccomend a Kameleon 6 for 1, Logitech 555 or (if it's a lot better the 885)?
#13
I've been eyeing this on pix for some time but after see the 885 I am also considering this.

Apart from the colour LCD what advantages does the 885 have over the 555?

Also with regards to the 555 is it a simply push of a button to change devices? I'm sure I read somewhere that this is not the case and therefore it can be a chore to find and pick your device from the menu.
#14
The logitech ones look miles better, you dont just type the code in for your device, you do it all through a web page, tell it what kit you have and answer a few questions like where you want the sound coming from etc etc then it sets it up for you. No looking up codes and putting them in to the remote :)

#17

Thanks for all the feedback and discussion on this guys :)

The 525 is roughly the same price elsewhere. Got it for Xmas.
Cant see any benefits that the 555 has over it :S
#20
Good spot.... thanks Cat :)
#21
Don't forget Quidco (2%).

i have a 885 and its fab. Not sure what improvements it has over the 555 or other models but i love it. I especially like the one button switch on of several devices such as watch tv switches on my av amp and sets it to the right settings, switches on sky, and switches on my plasma to the right settings all with one press of a button.

Even my techno unfriendly g/f likes it :-)

meant to say 99quid for the 885 is a fab price.
#23
i got a harmony remote for christmas. not sure what one it is because it doesn't loook like either of these two models.

i have to say i was a little scepitcal that it was going to be easy to install and use but it was very striaght forward to set up even with my very obscure Dvix home cinema system in place!

such a joy to not have 4 remotes balancing on the arm of the sofa!!
#24
The 885 was more preset buttons, a charger dock, a colour screen and generally looks better than the lower models :)
#25
Up until recently I haven't really need a uni remote, but now after purchasing a av amp and xbox 360 I simply have too many remotes so I'm going for the 885!

Can't wait, another gadget to play with!
#26
i have a couple of EL backlit Kameleon 6 for 1 remotes as well as the 885 and i use all three regularly. i'd say they all work pretty well. Personally if u have the cash i'd go for the 885 but if you dont the Kameleon 6 for 1 work well too.

I had the Harmony 525, sold it after 2 weeks, a complete nightmare to use.
If it worked as intended then maybe ok, but it tries to be too clever.
Feels very cheap too, creaks when you press buttons (lots of people on av forums commented about that too)
Harmony technical tried for a week to program it for my tv, then came back and said it won't work.

Lots of people do like them, but I prefer the device selection types, went back to my trusty Marantz....
#31
is it possible to select a particular device you want to control with easy?

Not sure about the 525 but many people on the av forums have been loving the 885
#32
Personally the 525/555 is a waste of cash especially when you can get the 885 for £99 as it gets rave reviews.

Most people loved the 525 on AV forums, just that I certainly didn't.

It tries to be clever in that when you press the 'on' button, it then switches every device you have 'on'.

But often one of our devices would already be on (sky for example, as someone might have been watching it upstairs), so the tv comes on, and the sky goes off, found it a real pain.

If you have a setup where only you use the devices, and ensure they all turn on/off together, then it could work. But in a house with several people using it, and children it was never going to work...just my experience...

If its set up correct it should only turn on what is needed.....

It will only turn on whats needed, but if it trys turning a device on thats already on, it's likely to turn it off.....

It remembers what state each device is in, but if someone for example turns the tv on using the power button and not the remote, it's going to think the tv is still off when it's not, if that all makes sense...
Was just too much trouble to make it worth while, in our house at least.
#36
ok I see what you are saying. Shouldn't be a prob for me as just me at home but I could see how that could become annoying for people in your situation/setup.
#37
off the subject but are those green bars under your amount of posts your rep and if so how do I grow my rep and what benefits does it have (if any)?
#38
I purchased the TEVION 8x controller from Aldi recently for £4.99.

What on earth does this do (apart from control 15 components) to make it worth TEN TIMES the price. Looks fairly similar too.

I can even turn off ALL components with one button, program it to turn DVD on and record at any time, it has Macro functions...Etc Etc.

Mine doesn't make the tea though.:)

I had exactly the same problem as 'Richiera', the remote felt cheap and actually stopped working after 3 days. It seems the slightest knock can break it!!!

And that was after spending most of the day setting up the functions, which barely worked anyway! :(
